    Personally I found a lot of this at swap meets and with parts sleds but providing links to purchase new as reference. This took me better part of a year and a half to gather together. This was a very challenging build. IF you are going to do a single carb swap, I do not have a solution for the 30 Degree angle your carb will be sitting at. I have a solution in the works, but for now...... You will have to fabricate a flange adapter similar to the GEM adapters which are no longer available. More to follow on that topic in future. Good luck on your conversion!!!

    I did a single mikuni on my 400 Cheetah years ago. I found another intake manifold, cut it at an angle and flipped the flange over and had it welded back up to level the carb. Pressure tested it and bobs your uncle. It worked great.

      Thanks Rick. The worm clamps are no go at that size and finding the correct spring clamps is hard. I’ve got a handful of spring clamps and unless you have the super thick wall poly hose they are useless. The double or triple wrap safety wire works perfectly giving a nice seal. You can tell I redid the lines a 2nd time as they turned to yellow Tygon vs the clear. It wasn’t nylon according to the package but immediately turned cloudy and rock hard. Tossed it. At -10 that would of been a disaster.

    I purchased three early 70s cats that came with the Mikuni carb swap. The rubber boots are angled correctly with what appears to be a factory rubber boot,. So someone or Actic Cat made these boots for these carbs. Apparently the previous owner was not able to come up with a throttle handle solution. Thanks for giving us the detailed info to do this conversion.

      I’d sure like to learn what the proper angled boot is. Anyone??!?!??? That would save a lot of brain damage for sure. I might make a 20-25 degree adapter as an experiment similar to the old Gem adapters, and do a single VM34 on my 73 Panther. For now… I’m pretty happy how things turned out.

      @@Letsfixsomething26 My carbs are horizontal to the sled so I am assuming that can't be bad given that the float bowl is horizontal. Right or wrong, someone intended for it be that way. All three of mine look like someone added an additional rubber manifold to the original rubber manifold making the manifold about twice the length and setting the carb on a horizontal plane with the sled. I am noticing slight cracks in all the rubber manifolds so these must be some older parts that have aged.

    Machine the gasket side of your aluminum adapter the required degrees. Then you're going to find those holes on the flange will require a slightly obligated bolt hole to arrange a secure tightening.

    The tillotson on my one owner survivor 303 panther has been very dependable for the three seasons I've been riding that sled, but recently a friend of mine swapped his 303 over to a 36mm mikuni. Even though his tuning is not quite dialed, I'm converted! The mikuni makes starting so much easier, especially when hot, and the idle quality is 100% smooth and consistent. If my 303 swapped cheetah makes it out of the barn this year, it's definitely getting a mikuni. Not so sure if I can bring myself to modify the panther though...

      @Letsfixsomething26  Před rokem

      Oh gotcha. Great question. I cut the original bars at the weld and fabricated up a plate to accept a standard 7/8” clamp from let’s say a 90’s wedge polaris however the 90’s/2000 cats are similar. I found a 2.5” Powermadd spacer and added some bars that I stripped down from a cat I got at a swap. I’ve since added some slightly taller Pro Taper bars. Ultimately I’d like to have a single heavier post with thicker wall and eliminate the Powermadd spacer. The other thing is the bulkhead kind of reaches its limit from a strength standpoint as there is quite a bit of leverage going on. Vintsge cats and a chubby guy don’t get along much so I find myself standing more than sitting so on this sled I just configured it that way. My other sleds are all normal cat bars. Thanks for asking

      They came with a project sled. Apparently they were off a polaris 600 but you can buy new ones from Dennis Kirk. If you look closely at the chart in the video the 295 Eltigre used VM30 carbs. The key reasons I went for it was I had carbs, and I knew exactly what jetting I wanted to use based on the same Kawi motor but in a free air. Meaning it gets me very close. So far it’s working mint but limited snow here in WI so got about 30 mins of tearing yard up.

    I wonder what that miss match in adapters is worth. But sometimes a smaller intake track helps low end snap. Also wondering if you could put a set of Reed's in there with the intake being square shape. Now are the jets in the dual carbs the same as what was in the single carb, or smaller? The sled seems to like that extra air though!

    • @Letsfixsomething26
      @Letsfixsomething26  Před rokem +1

      Eh, you might be over thinking it. It’s a win when a vintage sled starts and makes it back to the trailer under its own power. I am 100% not looking to achieve maximum power out of a 50+ year old Kawasaki. Mostly easier starting and smoother throttle response. Oh and to NOT melt down in the middle of the lake. As for single vs dual, skip to the end of the video for dual carb specs vs single carb specs. Hope that helps. Again I’m not racing this sled, I’m not trying to achieve any sort of max power extraction. Just fatigued at finicky pumper carbs… meaning hard starting, random fade of mixture settings, bogging, etc…
