A powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Peru early Friday, leaving devastation in its wake. At least three people were injured, and a tsunami alert sent waves of fear across the nation. The quake was so intense that it shook buildings as far away as Lima, 600 miles from the epicenter. Hitting just off the coast of the Arequipa region at 12:36 a.m. local time, it was followed by several aftershocks, keeping residents on edge. Although the tsunami alert was later lifted, eight people were treated for injuries, with three in Acarí and five in Ica. Reports of landslides, damaged homes, and blocked roads are flooding in, painting a grim picture. Authorities are working around the clock to assess the damage and provide aid to those affected.
