Definitely a play back and maybe live mics. You can hear Hanzel faintly "singing" under the recording. Gretyl on the underhand seems to be more like Milli Vanilli. Faking it the whole way through. She whipped her hair in her face at point where she screwed up. She was 10 feet from the mic and ran back as the recording started saying "Das Boot".
