Jeff Sipe is so criminally underrated
I just heard the drums come in the first track, my ears perked up and I though WOA? who is that?! That fat square beat, on such a spacey song.
It's heartwarming that Ned Flanders is getting recognition for his commitment to music.
Loved the band. They passed my audition.
Exceptional technique. The right hand plucks the guitar strings like a pendulum.
Who would come here and drop a thumbs down? GTFOH!! thankful for music like this in 2016
Some of THE tastiest guitar playing I've heard in a while!!!
I sat in for a private lesson with this guy at GIT in Atlanta back in 1988 and he was really into the dregs and Steve morse back then.Played thru an old beat up ampeg chained to the wall no fx just his Tele with the 5 pickup steve morse thing going on and was just jaw dropping.Flat out amazing.
With Jimmy Herring?
I envy your experience
He has Steve Morse chops with Jeff Beck sensibilities .
The more I hear Jimmy Herring, the more I appreciate what a talented guitarist and musician he is. Same for the other members of his band.
a keen ear
most underrated guitar player on the planet bar NONE.
He's definitely way into Jeff Beck. Also way into Duane and the Brothers. Fantastic player and very sweet guy. He deserves all the accolades in the world. Same can be said for Jeff Sipe, a real hero of music. Amazing band here. Neal Fountain and Matt Slocum also play with the Jeff Sipe Group that includes another truly great guitar player, Mike Seal. Thanks for the videos Steve!
Nederland is one of my favorite places in the world. I lived there 1971-73. It was magical then. I wanna go back for this festival. Jimmy
gets hypnotic with this Harrison “Within, Without...” He’s a world class guitar player. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love Matt's approach on the B3 - amazing chops and attitude - he makes it talk & scream... I mean him + Jimmy + Jeff and Neal in the same band... love it love it love it!
Geez-Louis!!! Jimmy has got a wonderful sense for building solos and knowing when to play fast and when to dig in!!! Very inspiring!
...just WOW!!...Thank You for this Gold!!! 😎👏🏻🎸🌟
that drummer is amazing, the whole band is amazing........makes me happy to hear this
Servee Schellinx Apt. Q-258 is the MAN- fabulous drumming in Aquarium Rescue Unit with Jimmy too!
@Basil Ganglia He really is very good, reminds me a lot of Dave Weckl
@@Carlito_Sway don't forget the trio with Jonas Hellborg and the late Shawn Lane.
@@Carlito_Sway Apt. Q-258 always cracked me up. I guess it was bcs it was such a weird address that captured Col. Bruce's imagination.
WOW- great writing and playing by all. For the time pressed, solos at 3:55 , 11:30 , 19:30 , 27:25 , 31:20
you are a saint, thank you for doing this lol - only have so much time in my day to relish in all the Jimmy solos this is helpful!!
you've done the lord's work on this one bro
@Basil Ganglia Well you're in luck because he's soloing the whole time lol
Jimmy is one of my favorite guitar players
me too for sure
And what a tone!! Absurd!!
monster tones, monster riffs
jimmy herring is fabulous , and one heck of a nice guy
I saw Jimmy live with the Dead. Man, can he play.
Great choice of George! And love the arrangement. Had to stop in my tracks and comment on this. And Jimmy Herring's first solo venture got me through a semester in college; it was the music to my life then. 2012.
I love how Jimmy starts playing Dereck Trucks with no slide technique. Jimmy is a beast.
Neil Fountain is a freaking bass genius.
So happy there are still enough listeners to support this brave and creative music.
So happy you post these gems! JV.
Sooooooo great to see & Hear my old mate from the crazy S. Bend dark ages!!! ..Killin that Modulus!! ..and nothing can be said about Jeff Sipe!! ...tQ 258 he most underrated drummer on the Earth!!! ..and a very gracious man! LOVE IT!
right on bro. jimmy is def one of the best. and he just plays without effort....he is a guitar god
the audience cracks me up but cool music jimmys a great player very fusion sounding
Simply Amazing!! One of the best.
Jimmy's picking hand will hypnotize you.
These guys sounds like Lane, Hellborg and Sipe in the intro. They got the Sipe part intact. Sick group of dudes. Jamming in the highest degree
I'm just now getting introduced to the Jimmy Herring band.....GREAT STUFF....I had a few years where the tokin' jamband stuff was it for me.....many many moons ago...however this is like Jamband stuff with about 10x the skill level and musicality....
Thanks for the great vid and JHB - thanks for being awesome! :-)
to quench that jamband thirst .... find some of The Dead tour with Jimmy Herring after Jerry passed ... so good
Jimmy is awesome, but the drummer!!!! He does almost everything Jimmy does and keeps the beat. That takes not just technique , but EARS. Wow!
It doesn't hurt that they have played together since the late '80s.
Jeff Sipe has always been one of the best jazz/techno drummers around
Yea just saw Jeff sipe play with jimmy and John McLaughlin. He is the man
Yes, I agree. Also check out drummer Gerry Conway's playing on the following utube video ... 'Fotheringay Live at The Beat Club 1970'
yeah yeah, jimmy is by far in my top five. but the rest of the band kills it! that bass player, man.
That man’s name is Neil Fountain and it need to be spoken more often
The best thing about the Jimmy Herring Band is he lets everyone shine. No gimmicks. No frills except skills.
A stunning and beautiful piece. Jimmy really is the ultimate "feel" player, or among the few.
Thanks for allowing me to hear this, all I can say is what a Great Player on Guitar , Jimmy really is...Sounds very Tightly structured...
and very interesting phrases....accomplished for sure!
I love watching a band that makes eye contact with each other while they're playing; that kind of communication makes for some sweet music. That, paired with the fact that these guys are all virtuosos makes me wish I'd been there...
Saw Herring Band last night in my hometown of Charlotte, NC. Unreal. Met Herring after the show as well. As nice as could be and a really funny/goofy guy. Cheers to great music.
Thanks SOOO much for posting this!! It was a great show!!
Thank goodness someone finally captured this amazing band!! Thanks so much!!
Best cover I have ever heard of perhaps the most profound of Beatles song. Albeit, not too many venture to cover this one. No problem for Herring and the boys!
I would add that Jimmy has some stuff going on that seems to channel "shades" of early Alan Holdsworth, Danny Gatton, and Dennis Guinan, but with his own flavor. At this level, it's not about chops, it's about portrayal of personality, and Jimmy has it in spades! The rest of the band kicks some serious butt to keep it real also, without unraveling!
thanks for sharing it with us!!!!
What a friggin band. Everyone is a monster, and tight as hell.
Pure nirvana. On a total different planet.
Great tone, Jimmy!☺
LOVE this!!!!!!
Quality soundwork!
Great, thanks for posting this vid.
This whole band is great.
oh my gosh these guys can all play. they are a super group of musicians.
Happy Thanksgiving Steve (the videographer) and thanks for all the music videos -- filmed through the eye of a true music lover. D
That's an outstanding band!
Hard to believe this was written in 1966! Clearly influenced the next generation and to ones to come, I'm sure!!
JH is magnificent.
New fan. Phenomenal
Great stuff!!
GREAT lineup!!!
Jerry Douglas' tune So Here We Are in great hands!
This is great!
thanks to pete indeed. amazing!
Ha ha, I was thinking I was looking up a concert in Holland ... and it's old Ned, Colorado! I used to LIVE there! (actually in Rollinsville). Trying to spot my buddy Bill in the audience ... but it's hard to tell one gray-hair from another :)
Sounds incredibly well for a small camera.
What a killer set! Jeff Sipe deserves way more credit than he gets. Kudos to the sound guy here aswell. 19:24 botched bass run, "damn!", I know that feeling, haha!
This is awesome!, that is so cool the soundguy let you patch the audio, sounds deadly! it's like being there with good earphones ( UE 7 IN EARS)
so tight...awesome...
The older I get the less I know I never heard of these guys great
Never too late to get into Jimmy Herring!
SOOOOOOOOOO Good ! TY
great music by great players!
fantastic.
Great sound quality.
Oho Jim !!! Yea. 😎😎😎😎
So fine!!!
IMO - One of the Greatest Living Guitarists
How many more Herrings are there in the Sea? 🌊
Amazing.......
super
awesome!
the allmans 2000 just the floor filled at the molson ampatheatre but jimmy sent me home early it was godlyness that jelesy thing again
Thanks Stev! Another great grab!
These guys really can play!!
drummer is very awesome too..
Indeed!
A dream combination....
Jimmy has one of the most interesting right hands. His wrist moves over two axes when he picks.
Scalpel picking!
most of the greatest guitar players plays the guitar ,jimmy makes her sing ...
...
Grandoioso!!!!
While I agree Steve Vai could hang with Jimmy mechanically, Jimmy's southern blues/gospel upbringing infuses his playing at the molecular level. Check out Steve doing a straight ahead blues sometime. I love him and am in awe, but it ain't his element. He sounds like a blues visitor, not a resident. And I've listened to him since his earliest Zappa days.
totally agree...Steve Vai said of himself, he's the worst blues player in the world. On the flip side I don't think Jimmy could compose a piece for a 50 piece orchestra as Vai does.
Jimmy wins at the fusion and blues thing, Steve wins at the shred thing. They both have absolutely killer vibrato that's really hard to replicate...
Guthrie Govan is the guitarist you would want to hang with Jimmy. because he's the only one.
@@CosmosArchipelago I don't think Guthrie Govan even could replicate Jimmy's vibrato but he wins at the speed thing. Hell of a player too.
shred5 Guthries speed is mute. While jimmy definitely has his strengths that Guthrie doesn't. Guthrie is just a godly player. As is jimmy. But not on as many fronts.
fantastico genial
Really good
Jimmy is GOD!
Ha!! Beatles tune! Amazing!
Herring is a god. Sipe is a master at following genius improv. If you like Sipe's improv, check out his work with another improv guitar god, the late GREAT Shawn Lane. Sipe was then sometimes known as Apt-Q258
+Bob Kalkman The more I watch this I am look and listen to Jeff Sipe's drumming!!! Every lead player wants a drummer like Sipe! I do!
Sipes a genius level player. He kills me with his taste and power.
TOCA MUITO!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Go Jimmy! Kinda' like Shawn Lane with REAL SOUL
oh yeah!
Nice Ornette Coleman "Dancing in your Head" reference at 12:20
Nice recording.:)
MY GOD'
I see big clouds of smoke....
Good grief, someone is BLAZING!
holy fuck man, Sipe can drumm..
wow
Basically, defining influences and style is like comparing different flavors and techniques used in differentiating apple pies in an apple pie contest. The guy is a cool player with his own slant goin well and good - period.
