  • Aeson® presentation
Aeson® is intended to replace the ventricles of the native heart in patients suffering from advanced heart failure. The Aeson® system is an electro-hydraulically driven device with the shape close to that of a human heart. The device has a central body with a left and right ventricle.
During the surgery, patient’s ventricles are replaced. Cuffs are sewn on the left and right atria. Then, the cuffs are attached to an interface into which the prosthesis is clipped and put in place.
Biological valves at the inlet and outlet provide unidirectional pulsatile blood flow. A double-layer hybrid membrane divides each ventricle into a blood compartment and an actuating fluid compartment. The blood-contacting layer of this membrane is made of biocompatible materials.
Two hydraulic pumps generate movement of the membranes and a pumping action resulting in blood flow and pressures comparable to a human heart.
Embedded electronics, microprocessors and sensors allow autoregulated responses to changing patient physiological needs.
This results in a harmonious deployment of the hybrid membranes, with filling and emptying of the blood chambers in opposite phase.
Aeson® will provide a new replacement therapy for patients suffering from advanced heart failure.

Will be interesting to compare Scandinavian Real Heart to Carmat.
With SRH four chamber solution I guess they have some advantages.

Is it self contained? Or is it powered from outside the body?

How does this compensate for increased demand in cardiac output like with exercise or exerting yourself?
Also, bioprosthetic valves? Is there any way to do a redo when/if these valve fail? Is there a mechanical valve option?
