    It’s staggering to think the 37s are more than double the age of some of the stock they are hauling away for scrap.

      And it was always said that, despite their large numbers, they were really poorly engineered because Diesel locomotive engineering still was not understood in the late 50s...

      You can tell something is good when it’s lasted over 60 years.

    Great collection of clips of the scrap runs, with some nice stills at the end. Thanks Derek.

    Brilliant video Derek. Fantastic selection of locos and rolling stock. Shame so many trains being scrapped. Kind regards C&A

    I remember when Cashmore's were scrapping GWR Kings and Castles in Newport. Fortunately, they had very little siding space to store locos waiting to be moved in the yard. This resulted in most locos ending up at Dai Woodham, as he had all those sidings from the coal export days..

    Most of the scrap looks quite decent!

    Again it's always about cost effectiveness,some of those mk 3 coaches are around 50 years old and been refurbished a number of times over the years . There comes a time when enough is enough.

    @5.02 London Liverpool Street to chingford overground train I definitely would have been on that sad times . The new ones have horrible loud transport police announcements and loud door beeps and hard seats and they always break down

    Great video, I agree wit the other commentators on here that it is shame that the MK3s are being taken away for scrap! Unless the metal is fatigued and reaching the end of their structural life, from an interior seating point of they're probably better than their replacement coaching stock & should take the decent seats out and refurbish them and fit them in the new stock!

    Great video, but I hate seeing rolling stock going for scrap, especially Mk3 carriages which have, IMHO, more life left in them and are definitely more comfortable than much more recent carriages.

      @@AquaFonicMK3's have been made disabled friendly by getting sliding doors and disabled spaces. Take a look at the castle sets, Inter7City and Cross country HSTs. They all use sliding doors and have been modified to have wheelchair spaces. The MK3's seen going for scrap in this video are no longer needed anymore.

  • @lewis72

    Those Mk3 coaches still probably more comfortable than the newer sets that replaced them.

    Plenty of life left in them unit’s especially the 365’s what an absolute waste of modern trains with sliding doors doesn’t make any sense at all

    To me at least it looked like a whole train company was being repossessed and the company refused so the said ok we're going to scrap your stock and engines

    Why don't they utilise recently released HST power cars as hauler units? With their more modern and fuel efficient engines instead of ancient locos like 37's 47's and 57,s. Surely the power cars have the power to do it plus a higher route availability due to being a Bo-Bo design! Tractive effort maybe?

  • @NotDavidTrains
    @NotDavidTrains Před rokem

    they should not scrap the class 91's or the 365's there not old there to modern to be scrapped. the only thing wich needs to be scrapped is the loco hauling the trains.

  • @smudgycat6750
    @smudgycat6750 Před rokem

    Perfectly good carriges, perfectly good locos, yet LNER doesn't care because the new 'azuma' trains are better, I don't care they're fast, they're not nice to look at after a while, they don't have the nostalgia that things like the 43 and 91 have, they're not beautiful and unique because they're lasted the test of time, these new trains straight off the market, they're fast, but they're not good
