    For future projects, to prevent drill travel get a automatic center punch tool for steel. It is spring operated and punches a small dent in the steel so your bit stays in place. You can also just use a nail and a hammer as a cheap alternative.

    • @RubenKelevra
      @RubenKelevra Před měsícem +3

      Nail isn't going to work here, as its cold rolled steel - not mild steel.
      I also use a tungsten tipped pen to make a dimple before using an automatic center punch. It's sharp enough to "grab" the surface by itself and hard enough so you can just push it with your hand into the metal.
      This way you can mark it and then "feel" with the center punch the spot and enlarge it.

    Come on Tesla ... save the rest of the Cybertruck owners the hassle of installing this necessary bit of kit by making it the standard feature it should have been from the get go.

    😅Really enjoyed watching this video! I’m a DYI guy and that’s because my father taught me much. Here are some things that may help. To drill SS, mark it, center punch it, spray a cutting or tapping fluid onto the drill bit. Use a 1/8” Cobalt bit so it doesn’t snap off like a 1/16” bit can. Tape the hook for the wire puller so it can’t snag. Once your ready, push the tube over the hook and then secure and pull it. 😅 Good luck to all 😅

    Pro tip: water down your washer fluid with distilled water (it has no minerals) so that it's not so blue. You might want it more concentrated during the winter time is all. They do sell non blue washer fluid. You can test different concentrations by freezing it in the freezer maybe, just don't let the kids get to it!

    • @btn73
      @btn73 Před měsícem

    18:05 I'm used to do most things around my house by myself; but what a difference can a good question make! I was buying replacement steel drill bits and luckily I humbly asked the hardware store guy if he knew some trick for drilling, because all my HSS drill bits were so quickly worn and broken: and he just said "I don't know, but perhaps use the boring oil!" I've seen my father build a house as a kid, so I was sure I knew pretty much all basic tradesmen stuff, but I never heard about the boring oil. Now whenever I drill steel, I need to have my tiny bottle with the "magic" oil. Because the difference is awesome!
    I'm also surprised that you are using the metric sizes for nuts! I'm writing from Czechia but remember when I came to Australia, the metric stuff was just starting and imperial was used more commonly. Also, my compound bow uses still the imperial key sizes. 😁

    You know just pointing out there but I have a ton of work trucks that I drive one being a Dodge 5500 with a reverse camera the other be a Chevy 2500 with a reverse camera one being a sterling with a reverse camera and not a single one of them Has a sprayer on the rear so it’s not just Tesla. It’s all of them. Tesla just took a look at what others were doing and copied it when it comes to that idea nobody else put a sprayer on it so they didn’t put a sprayer on it as far as I know nobody else has a front view camera so they thought well let’s put a spray on it since we don’t know. Just saying everybody from time to time seems to bash somebody for not doing something they should’ve went in reality. None of them do great video. Glad see you found a fix to the problem though next thing, they need to come up with is some sort of wiper system for those front lights because I have a feeling the snow is going to sit in front of them that or heat tape of some sort on the top of that bumper to keep it from building up.

I'm going to buy the product just to get the nozzle and template, and then I will install a pump and small tank in the rear of the Cybertruck operated by a wireless remote button attached to the dash. I'd like one of these on the back up camera of my Model Y.
    Wire puller? Ask your DIY friends. I've pulled a lot of wires in my day. When you wrap the tube to the puller, always taper. Tape over anything that can 'hook'. I'd probably have cut the end of that tube off at a slant and taped it all down. A good wire 'pull' is usually 10 - 15 minutes setting up, taping, lube, and at the end laboriously taking off all that electrical tape. And 30 secs to a minute doing the actual pull.
    When disassembling something like the Frunk, lot of parts, blue tape with numbers, on the part and on the place it goes. Or screws, get one of those boxes Amazon keeps sending us and make a 'fastener list' top down poke holes and insert them. Re assembly? bottom up. And take photos of everything. How many times have you gone back to see what xx looks like, and you have photos of everything else? or the key bit is just out of the frame? Might be a good idea to just wear a GoPro on your forehead. Modern videos are so crisp each frame is like a photo, and you can see the order of things.
    & WD40 for drilling metal will only cool it, so just use water. Drilling oil has sulfur in it that increases friction. Completely different.
    And use a center punch to mark the hole and create the divot to keep the drill from sliding around.
    And if you have to drill large holes 3/8"+... use a step taper drill -- they work great. I had to drill out a square hole so a 3/8" bolt would fit. A regular bit would catch on the side and try to spin the part. The step taper easily handled it, no grabbing. Seconds.

    Since the tailgate is counterbalanced, an aftermarket company should be able to make a light torque cable retracting motor and reel to attach to the tailgate to produce an auto close tailgate mechanism. The reel would have a slip clutch to be pay out the cable to manually lower the gate. The mechanism’s controller could have an additional wireless radio remote control stick on button to add to the controls on top of the drivers side panel. It would have a replaceable CR2032 Lithium Battery, and be in a weather sealed housing with an insert coin and twist indent to split the gasketed two half’s of the remote. The remote would be mounted onto a snap lock clip that is actually what is double side sticky taped to the plastic trim beside the stock control panel. A spare remote could be supplied for putting in the glovebox. The mechanism would be powered by a tap off of either POE Power over Ethernet or by a 12 volt tap available coming out of a POE controller that converted to the old voltage, probably from the module controlling the buttons for opening the tailgate and commanding the Tonneau Cover. The company doing this would determine where such power could be tapped and connector specifications or vendor to make s pass through POE tap that will not disturb the Ethernet portion to the module whose POE line is being tapped for power. The male and female connectors would have to meet the same triple sealing rubber gasket that maintains the weather seal the original connector accomplished and be made of the same pin metals, durable plastic, and rubber seals.

    I recommend the drill hole guide, become a marked credit card with the hole punched in it and 3M Command Strips. The user would mount the credit card, aligning the arrow using the 3M Command strips, use a hammer and center punch to make a drill bit centering divot in the Stainless Steel, the divot guides the drill bit, preventing the pilot drill from walking. then drill the pilot hole with a smaller drill bit, then change bit to the final diameter drill bit and drill the finished hole.
    Remove the guide card by pulling the 3M Command Strips and now you have a precisely positioned hole with no drill walk marks.

  • @RubenKelevra
    @RubenKelevra Před měsícem

    15:02 yeah that isn't going to work. So you need two extra tools to drill hard material like metal:
    - A tungsten marker pen - 3 bucks on Ali
    - Automatic Puncher - 4 bucks on Ali
    The tungsten tip can be pressed into the steel and makes a tiny dimple in the right spot. Barely enough to hold the tip of the automatic puncher (but too little for a drill bit).
    The Automatic puncher can then be used a couple of times, depending on the hardness of the material, to make a larger dimple in the right spot, to hold the drill bit center steady.
    Also note that there are special drill bits to start a hole, they are called spot drills - but you can also use center drills. Normal drill bits don't cut in the center of the drill, thus drilling becomes harder and harder on larger drill bit sizes - as the center is bigger.
    That's why you should start with either a small drill bit (as you did) or use a spot drill/center drill. :)
