Easy to solder the brass washer to the end also.

I used a large carb fuel bowl float made out of brass.
I probably would of used a wire retaining washer. But, your way works as well. Thanks for posting!
I used the same method but to save a trip to the hardware for washers I cut a small piece of a model a spark plug wire (brass) and used a finish nail to make the hole .

Search online for vintage Ford Model A suppliers- there are several.
