      @Cindi Strozier - Hi Cindy!!! Thank you so much for stopping by and checking this video out! Hooray, I'm so glad to hear that I'm not alone in being ok with the "imitation" stuff! Honestly, that is all we have available here, and it's much more affordable anyway. We are just fine with it and like using it in a variety of ways. I hope you try some, especially the soup and the easy crab salad, I'm incredibly partial to both of those!!! Let me know if you get a chance!! Take care, and have a wonderful and truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚

      Imitation crab is still seafood, just not crab. Its a mixture of fish turned into a paste.

    I bought this today and cooked with olive oil/butter, garlic, a little old bay... served over angel hair with a spritz of lemon juice and parsley and parm... it was
    pretty darn good! Faced with $5 a gallon gas and real crab at $45 per lb I can sacrifice a little flavor for this wonderful product. Frankly, at this price it's a
    budget meal in todays world!!!

      @Redsgal21 Cinci - Hey girl!! Thank you so much for stopping by and watching! You are right, and I was hoping that the video from this series that uses lentils and then this one would help with ideas for Lent!! I am *always* obsessed with dill, and use a lot of it, and a lot of dill pickles in everything I make :) It's one of my most favorite flavors, by far! I hope you get a chance to try one, the soup and the crab salad are my favorites, but we enjoy them all!! Let me know if you get a chance to try any of them. Hope you are feeling good these days and adjusting to your new gluten-free lifestyle. Take care, and have a wonderful and truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚

    These are great recipes. I live on the East Coast in NJ and while seafood is readily available it can get crazy expensive! This is a good way to make something "fancy" and not blow your budget to the stratosphere. 😁

      @Ruby Torqueo - Hi Ruby, and welcome!! Thank you so much for stopping by our channel, and for taking the time to watch and leave us a comment. We are so glad you are here, and we hope that you will enjoy the content on our channel. 💖💜 You are so lucky to live near the coast and have fresh seafood! I know it tastes so much better, but we live in a very land-locked, rural area that doesn't have access to any of that. So imitation crab is about as good as it gets here! I agree, with the way meat and seafood prices are going, using the "imitation" or "fake" stuff is a very useful thing to do right now. Hope you get a chance to try some of these! Take care and have a wonderful and truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚

      @Kathleen Wassum - Hi Kathleen!! Thank you so much for stopping by our channel and especially for taking the time to watch and to leave us a comment. We are so glad you are here, and we hope that you will enjoy the content on our channel.💜 I know a lot of our subscribers live in an area where fresh quality crab is available (and they were none too pleased to see an entire video devoted to the imitation stuff, LOL!), but we don't have that available. In fact, I've only tasted "real" crab once or twice on a trip to the East Coast. The imitation crab is easily accessible and very affordable for us, so we use it often. The crab soup is my favorite, hands down, though I usually make it in the winter, and we love the crab cakes and crab salad for the summer months. The pasta is good, but not my favorite one, but a nice alternative to a chicken or shrimp fettucine. I hope you get a chance to try some of them, and if you do, we'd love to hear back from you, as to whether they worked for you guys or not. We realize not everyone has the same taste (and you should totally modify the recipes to suit your palate and what flavors and spice level you enjoy). We have a lot of other videos on the channel, and hope that you can find more ideas for meals at your house, from some of our other content. Thanks again for the support, and have a wonderful and truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚

      @LetsCookYall  Před 3 lety

      @Lin Donald - Hi Lin! Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out this video! I love the crab salad as well, especially in the warmer months too - great minds think alike! We appreciate the tip, and believe it or not, I always used to add a pinch of nutmeg to any bechamel or white sauce. My sweet husband, who has an impeccably good palate, told me very early in our marriage that he didn't like nutmeg much at all (along with very few other things, he is truly the least picky person I know). I tried to sneak it in a few times, and he could always taste it, and would say "did you put nutmeg in this?!" LOL!! So, I leave it out nowadays, but you are right, it enhances the flavor quite nicely!! Take care, and have a wonderful and truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚

    These are great ideas! I have never made crab soup before. Yours looks really good. When I make crab cakes, I use crushed up "smooth buttery" crackers (or club crackers) and use half the crackers in the crab mix, and then I also pat some more crushed crackers on the top and bottom of the crab cake before frying. So delish! Makes it really nice and crispy on the outside if you like that. I usually dip my crab cake in a mayo/ketchup mixture which my dad used to make when we had salmon. I like the idea of a dill yogurt dip! That sounds really good!

    • @LetsCookYall

      @Lisha Yost - Hi Lisha! Thank you so much for stopping by our channel, and for taking the time to watch and comment. Welcome! We are so glad you are here and hope that you will enjoy the content on our channel. 💜 Ooh, I like the idea of using the butter or club crackers to help with the binder on the crab cakes, I'll have to remember to try that next time. It sounds amazing! I know the soup is a winter favorite in our house (and actually won a cooking contest many moons ago, LOL!), and the crab salad is always a favorite for me in the summer, when I don't want to turn on anything and heat up the kitchen. We often make dipping sauces very similar to what you describe (mayo, ketchup, one dab mustard, lots of creole seasoning, etc) and use it for grilled or fried chicken strips, potato wedges, etc, but we haven't ever tried it with seafood. I'll have to remember it. The dill yogurt is really good and is more like a tartar sauce, which I love and fix frequently (if you ever watch any of our weekly dinner videos). Thanks again for stopping by, and for the great feedback! Take care, and have a wonderful and truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚

I know it's a lot easier to watch on your big tv!! How lucky you are to have had fresh crab available, that's wonderful! Where we live, it's never an option (unless you count the occasional package of lump crabmeat I might can find at Kroger for about $13 a container, too rich for my blood!). I can't wait to hear how the crab cakes turn out for you after you get your Walmart pickup order. Please add whatever seasonings or add-ins that you like in a crab cake (most folks add celery but I'm not a fan), and lots of Old Bay or seafood seasoning. I hope you guys love them!! Thank you for sharing. This is particularly helpful during lent. One other suggestion is to make sushi, particularly California Rolls. You can find seaweed in all the supermarkets near me, though I live in Los Angeles, I’m sure you could find it online. If you don’t like seaweed you could also put an Asian version of your crab salad over rice, with avocado and some crunchy cucumbers and other veggies or over salad if you are trying to eat fewer carbs. There are hundreds of poke bowl places in LA that have some raw and some cooked seafood including imitation crab that charge $18 for one of those bowls. 2 questions for you. Have you ever tried cooking these in your air fryer? I have the kalorik oven as well as a Phillips basket and I wondered. Also I ordered a cheaper version of the silpat (?) you talk about and it is sticky on both sides. Are the ones you talk about that way?

    • @LetsCookYall
      @LetsCookYall  Před 3 lety +1

      @Betty King - Hi Betty! Thank you so much for stopping by and watching our video! I will try to answer your questions to the best of my ability! I believe about the air fryer, that perhaps you were asking about the imitation crab cakes? If so, then no, I have not yet tried them, but I certainly would in the future. I love my air fryer and use it a lot, but inevitably, whenever I do and show a lot of things for the air fryer in the regular weekly dinner videos, we get a lot of negative feedback about using the air fryer too much, and people unsubscribing because they don't like seeing things fixed in an air fryer. A lot of subscribers do though, and either way - this is how we cook and what we are eating, but I do try to balance out how I cook things, and show multiple ways of preparing food. I believe the crab cakes, once refrigerated, would do really well in either a basket or oven style air fryer. As for the Silpat question, I have only ever had the Silpat brand, not a knock off of cheaper version. Mine are not sticky, unless I've baked something really greasy and not cleaned it properly with hot soapy water. Mine are not sticky on either side, either new or very used (mine are each probably 10 years old or older). I hope that helps!! Take care, and have a wonderful and truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚

Clam Chowder has the same consistency or similar as Cream of Chicken/Cream of Mushroom (depending on what brand you use.) It sounds good as it is but I was just thinking clam chowder might be really good too.

      @Dutchess and Kay - Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by our channel, and for taking the time to watch and comment. Welcome! We are so glad you are here and hope that you will enjoy the content on our channel. 💜 I have honestly never even thought to try subbing for the cream of chicken/mushroom, but that's a really intuitive and smart idea! If you had one that was thick enough, it would probably work well, and as you said, lend more of the clam flavor to the soup. I know that I have been making this recipe since the 90's (and it has won a cooking contest that I entered it in as well!), and have almost always made it exactly as originally written. Only this last time did I add an extra package of imitation crab, to bump up the flavor and crab bites, and I would definitely do that again. It's a wee bit expensive to experiment with, but might be worth a try with the clam chowder sub. If you do try it, I'd love to know if that version works for you! Thanks again for the great feedback. @@LetsCookYall Really? I love Alfredo! So I thought the crab as Alfredo would be a great idea.☺️ I love crab salad as well but it seems like almost everytime we get imitation crab we make crab salad so I wanted to make something different. Also I am from FL. =D ..It gets really hot here too so I definitely know what you mean.
      I made the soup for lunch and it was a success!😄 Delicious! I started out like how you made it except I went to the store yesterday and there was no canned crab meat🙁 and I forgot about the white wine vinegar. So I added fresh carrots and corn instead for extra filling.
      I was afraid it wouldn't turn out because mistakes were made😅 (I forgot how long it took to cook carrots and crab can cook too quickly) but it was delicious! The crab stayed the right texture and after everything was heated, I had to turn it off and put the lid on and let the carrots set. They soften well. I was relieved. I also added chopped garlic and lime zest and lime juice to it and sauteed that first. Not the best substitute for the white wine vinegar but thought it would give a little extra flavor. The only problem was that it was too thick. But probably because I didn't have a lot of milk left (I also forgot half and half at the store lol. Milk and cream worked well but I didn't have enough milk). So it turned out more like a chowder or stew in itself but that's only because not a lot of liquid was added. Hopefully next time I'll remember the ingredients to make it a bit more like yours but while adding the clam chowder to it. The clam chowder added turned out a success. Thank you. You also have a blessed day!☺️

      @@dutchessandkay2280 - I'm so glad it turned out, even with all of your modifications! I love adaptive and inventive cooking and it sounds like you are definitely a master at that! I would not have thought to add lime but I bet it gave it a nice zing of flavor! It's so odd to me, even now, that our stores no longer are reliable for finding all of the products on the shelves, that I could find without an issue, prior to covid. I've also seen crab out of stock, along with countless other items, in my grocery store lately. So good that you can make substitutions, or use items you have on hand, and make it work. I'm so glad that both of the recipes you tried were winners at your house, that's totally what we are hoping to help with! Enjoy your weekend, and have a truly blessed day! ---Stacy 😍💚

Girl, if I lived in Ponta Vedra and had all of that amazing seafood available, I wouldn't eat this either! Sadly, we don't have access to any of that here. I’m curious. If you take your crab cake mixture without the bread crumbs and put them in an egg roll wrapper, do you think it would turn out ok?

      @NessieSim - Hi there, and welcome!! Thank you so much for stopping by our channel, and for taking the time to watch and leave us a comment. We are so glad you are here, and we hope that you will enjoy the content on our channel. 💖💜 I have never thought to try that, but it's actually a great idea, sort of like a crab rangoon. I would think, personally, that you would definitely need more binder. The bread crumbs, along with the beaten egg, act as a binder to keep the crab mixture in a semi formed shape. Crab rangoons always have cream cheese in them, so I would try a bit of softened or whipped cream cheese with the mixture, if I were going to experiment. It sounds awesome though, and I bet it would work. If you try it, we'd love to hear if it worked for you or needed more ingredients to hold the mixture together. Take care and have a wonderful and truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚 P.S. I hope you've also seem our companion video to the Imitation Crab one, entitled What Can I Make with Egg Roll Wrappers... we didn't try a crab rangoon egg roll, but we did try several other variations to share :) So many fun options and varieties!!

      @Tami Campbell - Hi Tami! Thank you for stopping by, and Merry Christmas! The link to the full recipe is provided in the description, and is here: hambones.org/letscookyall/index.php/recipe/creamy-crab-soup/ The original recipe calls for 2 TABLEspoons of sherry, which I did not have, so I substituted two TEAspoons of white wine vinegar. Hope that helps! Have a blessed day --Stacy

    Planning a trip to Sam's on Saturday and plan to get a bag of the crab meat. I am the only one in my house that eats it. If I get a large bag can I freeze some?

    • @LetsCookYall
      @LetsCookYall  Před 3 lety

      @elaine miller - Hi Elaine! Thank you so much for stopping by and watching our video! I did buy the extremely large bag of imitation crab at Sam's Club (it's a great price compared to the smaller packages in Walmart and regular grocery stores), but it was A LOT for TWO people! I knew that I wanted to recipe test and film these for the CZcams channel, and that we would need a lot of imitation crab. I would really hesitate to buy it if it were under normal conditions for the two of us, as we would likely not use it all before it went bad. I would probably NOT get it if I was just feeding one, because it's a LOT of meat. I have never tried to freeze it. I'm not sure because of the water content and how it's made, whether it would freeze well or not. I did a quick Google search and found mixed answers - some said yes, it is ok to freeze and others said no, it has already been frozen and you should not freeze again. So if it was me and I was the only one eating it, I would opt for the smaller package at Walmart or your grocery store, just the regular size and not the humungous warehouse sized pack from Sam's Club. Hope that helps!! Take care, and have a wonderful and truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚

      @Carlos Salcido - Hi Carlos! Thank you so much for stopping by our channel, and for taking the time to watch and leave us a comment. We are so glad you are here, and hope that you will enjoy the content on our channel. 💜 To answer your question, the original recipe for the creamy crab soup calls for 2 tablespoons of sherry (not white wine, though I'm sure it would work). I never have that on hand, so I just make a quick sub. You would add the wine or sherry at the same time as the half and half, just with the liquids. Hope that helps! Take care and have a wonderful and truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚

I made it a few years ago for a "Souper Bowl" party, where an assortment of soups were brought to enjoy, and this soup was the only one that was completely gone, a big crockpot full! So everyone from our Sunday School class loved it, and they can be a tough crowd, LOL! So glad it was a hit for you too! @L L - Hi there! You can add the sherry (which I did not have, so I subbed a small amount of white wine vinegar), just with the rest of the ingredients. This soup is better if you give it time for the flavors to come together, so go ahead and add it with everything else. I hope you get a chance to make it, it's a huge favorite here! Fresh crab meat is obviously the best, but holy crap is it expensive! Also, if you're making crab cakes, with all those seasonings, imitation is perfectly fine. Splurging for the fresh there is just a waste of money.
