Edit: thanks to those claiming the amount of sustain is a bit too much. I am aware of it. The original song is quite staccato and dry. I tried to create something dark and did really not like how my cover sounded without the sustain (or even a bit less), at least in the way I wrote it. I guess it remains a matter of personal preference. Still, thanks for giving the video a chance! :)
Original comment: My first piano arrangement ever, back from 2013. Inspired by Scott Davis and vkgoeswild. Since there was no sheet music of Scott's arrangement back then (his cover used to be the gold standard for me), I had to do my own thing. Vika's arrangement added to the darkness of the piece which inspired me in several passages.
Throughout the years, I always rerecorded this cover but seing it today, I have never been satisfied with my recordings - outside of a nostalgic point of view. For me, this video is by far my best Metallica recording yet. It took me around a whole week to render it.

I have a hard time with guitar and have been playing piano for four years about and love metal, my fiance likes metallica a ton so I decided yknow what I'll learn metallica on the piano for him!
Don't worry, patents only last 20 years.
Fun fact: I started to play the piano exactly 20 years ago
I started piano 3 years ago and guitar last year (acoustic though). Soon enough I might try the electric guitar
Not gonna lie, I've always heard metal got a lot of stuff from classical music. Which I get, but hearing this song on piano definitely made me see the classical roots in the song. Definitely dope af!!

The fact that you're playing it FASTER than the original, is fucking incredible. I'm blown away. I've seen the woman playing it and she also crushes it. This song is obviously not meant for piano but GOD it's amazing. I'm a tad elevated sorry. This song slaps.

I took this track to my local Bose dealer and had him play in one of their rooms for concert piano sounds and we sat on the couch. About 2 mins in the dealer turned the volume way up and it sounded amazing just amazing. When the song was over and we stood up and turned around the room was actually filled with other people who we didn't hear come in to listen all asking where this track could be found. Again I stand and applaud

I personally think it's a little too busy for the low end and with the reverb it loses a lot of its sharpness, but nevertheless it is an amazing cover and awesome performance! I always struggle with the timing in the verse, too used to 4/4 :(

Im most impressed with Metallica's clean parts like this part, fade to black intro, unforgiven intro, etc. They are a metal band but their more melodic parts are masterpieces.

Thank you for making me cry tonight. Long story short, my favorite metallica song, but many years ago i had a mild obsession with it where i was trying to find as many different live versions of it as i could. I know every last bit of it on guitar except the fast solo, and have literally heard it hundreds of times, but this one was soooo special, the first solo and it's backing riff that comes in first, i knew that would probably be beautiful on piano but damn that brought out the tears! bravo!
Also from a Guitar player to a Piano/Keyboard player, I have nothing but MAD respect for you guys especially at this level of talent. I'm looking at those notes coming by and seeing what you are having to do with both of your hands and all of your fingers at any and all given times and it's ridiculous. I could probably train myself to play one side and keep up but on both hands? both doing things that are completely opposite and independent of each other? and sometimes both doing crazy things? I personally know i don't have the brain for that. I can't do that with my hands. can't play guitar and sing at the same time either i lose track of one or the other! on that note, you're awesome! any good piano/keyboard players reading this, you're all awesome!
