Have you checked for anything air leaks around the boots of the carbs?

Spookily enough, I had exactly the same thought when I closed up for the day. I haven't closely. They look quite new from afar but I haven't had a closer look or tried spraying them when running. Another task for the list!

Also Is there a vent hose going from the intake to the fuel tap? Or it's it just a off and on fuel tap?
If it has a vent pipe that could be split letting air in making the left exhaust pipe warm but not hot maybe.

It a vacuum fed petcock mate. I replaced the vacuum hose when I first got it so I know that bit is fine. Also it would have stopped popping when I was balancing the carbs.

I was just think about the vaccum pipe as I had trouble with that and the exhaust pipe not getting hot till I replaced it.. But if it's now then that's out the question... Well like you said check to see if there is any air leaks and also check the values and one could be stuck open.
