    I don't think you should keep saying that's a big, big sign of autism. Maybe it's just a small sign of a delay. I've taken care of toddlers who don't point or talk as soon as others do, but eventually, they catch up and they're perfectly fine. So please be careful, because you might be scaring the heck out of parents for no reason. Also, most toddlers absolutely do not know 50 words by 18 months. Most toddlers usually only say a few words until 20 months.

    • @gillmiller3702
      @gillmiller3702 Před rokem

      You are looking at that as an individual indicator rather than the whole picture

      @@gillmiller3702 , I don't know what you mean, but I've been in childcare for over 10 years, so I've watched several babies & toddlers develop. Some of these signs could be autism and some of them are just normal. The biggest indicator of autism that I've seen is when the child has a blank stare almost all the time and doesn't interact with me or the other children.

    • @teachmetotalk
      @teachmetotalk  Před rokem

      It's simply not true that most toddlers only say a few words until 20 months. I've replied to you before @Anneliese Wright. Please email me so I can help you! Laura@teachmetotalk.com

      @anneliesewright662 Před rokem

      @@teachmetotalk , I've taken care of toddlers for 10 years. I used to work in daycare in the toddler room for 2 years, I was a nanny for 5 years, and I've had an in-home daycare for 3 years taking care of toddlers. 20 months is the average age they all started talking. I also take the toddlers to a playground and have met several moms whose toddlers didn't start saying a lot of words until 20 months. They only said a few words at 18 months. By the way, 18 months is a milestone because that's when they begin to understand a lot more, but most are not talking by then. I think you must be trying to make money from making parents think they need you to teach them something. Shame on you.

    As an SLP who works with kids with ASD, I am concerned about the “black and white” mentality of this video. Not ALL kids on the spectrum have difficulty with these skills. Also, instead of calling them “red flags”, perhaps using the term “indicator” would give these possible signs a more positive connotation.

    • @levintry8812
      @levintry8812 Před 3 lety +18

      As a parent of a special needs child, I appreciate her using the term red flag. I've had multiple therapists (my son has PT, OT, Aquatic therapy) use this term and I've never considered it negative. Perhaps we just view the term differently, but Laura's videos have been invaluable to me, especially before my son could see a speech therapist.
