Stop Wearing your glove wrong!!

- Have you been wearing your baseball glove wrong the whole time? Try this 2 in the pinky! All you have to do is take your pinky and your ring finger and put them in the pinky hole. Then slide all the other fingers over one slot so that the finger-pointing hole is empty. Wearing your glove like this allows the glove to have a bigger pocket and sit higher on your hand. This is great for outfielders, pitchers, and first basemen. This is how you should wear your baseball glove! #baseball #baseballtips #baseballglove

Instead of two in the pinky, I go 1 in the stinky. Much better for my play style
Try doing both at the same time, your glove will love you for it.

It depends on your hand. I have large thumbs and two in the pinky makes your thumb more extended leaving you open to really hurting your thumb if you don't catch the ball just right
I'm a starting high school catcher, and your crazy if you put two in the pinky.

“2 in the pinky”
Ah yes. What a clever name
I tried that after a guy in college showed me how he does two in the pinky. If the ball doesn't hit the web, even though you caught it...the feeling is gone. When I used finger for finger, I could feel everything...even snow cone catches. Do what you feel confident in.
a guy showed you how to do 2 in the pinky😳😳
Wear it the way that makes you field ground balls. That’s what matters. There isn’t a wrong way to wear a glove. Make the play.
I showed my 7yr old
Daughter this who has been struggling with the balls popping out of her glove, and bam. It has allowed her to somehow keep the ball in the pocket at least 50% more often. I believe she has more leverage and it removed her pointer finger from forming a bubble which also increased her ability to retain the ball after it hits the glove.
Used 3 in the pinky for outfield gloves 👍🏻👍🏻

@@marquisphillip260 fax
Yes sir gave me about 4 more inches to catch balls. With your finger it each designated spot your lowering your chances of making those top 10 plays. It’s a game of inches.
Pitching and first base also.
I would think it would be based upon what type of glove you’re using and what feels most comfortable to you personally.
Everything feels uncomfortable the first time you do it. Human beings can get used to almost anything.
Ain’t no right or wrong way to wear your glove! If you’re comfortable wearing it traditional that’s how you wear your glove , if you like 2 in the pinky then do you!!
@@Marylandterpenes831lol. You just described how I used to wear my glove. I had two in the pinky and my index finger on top of the finger hole and on the back of the mitt.
2 in the pinky is good for outfield, catcher, corner infield and pitcher if it’s comfortable, but middle infielders should do 1 in each finger, it creates a not so deep pocket which aids in transfers, glove movement, feel of the ball and basic, quick ground ball fielding
Just use a 11 1/4 ur perfectly fine with 2 in pink for middle
If you watch the video, that's exactly what he says
@@tac79phoenix hahaha Fr? I thought I watched till I end hahah my bad
jmlb middle infields go 2 in pinky. they just use smaller glove
Ima middle infielder and just do one in each then index finger out I have tried the two in the pinky it’s just too uncomfortable
This is what I used to do in JUCO, but it didn’t really matter because I was the last depth reliever and never pitched
They told me I was almost never going to pitch either but when they give you a chance if you can impress them they’ll give you a chance. I pitched almost every game after that and then I even started 2 games.
I have been wearing my glove like this for 15 years. As an outfielder this is a game changer.
Stick your index finger out of the glove.
This works for a deeper pocket but for middle infield the “old school” way is better for transferring on double plays or getting rid of the ball quicker. 2 in the pinky works for almost everyone else on the field tho, especially catchers and third basemen!
Yeah, I played pro ball and am a middle infielder. I can't stand a deep pocket. However, playing OF in softball...it works well.
Just stick your index finger out. Get a Rawlings Fastback glove with the finger hole.
@@dalethelander3781 I feel like that's a very good hybrid approach. Again, as a former pro infielder I used the classic approach. But, there were times where I would put my finger on the outside. It allowed me to absorb throws and impact better without creating a huge pocket. I'd use it with a slower runner with power. Or, even if my hand was beaten up from a lot of action over the course of a couple of days
@@jasonschwartz9481 Why not use it full-time like players did in the 70s?
Great Method, however it really comes down to what you prefer, if you choose this great, if not that’s alright as well, whatever gets the job done the most consistently.
Stick your index finger out. Get a Rawlings Fastback glove.
This is for outfielders. You need to have as deep of a pocket as possible and the glove needs to snap closed. Infield needs to have three fingers folded over to quick ball transfer.
For you infielders try going 2 in the ring (pinky and ring finger in the ring hole) from experience love it I play shortstop and it lets me have a better transition but yall all do what makes you fell comfortable.😁
I play short I am 13 and I do 3 in the pink
i play 1st base and 2 in the pinky is he only way to go ever since i tried it, i feel like i can secure the ball alot better along with forming the deepest pocket possible with my break in
This is exactly how I wore my glove when I played
The more baseball shorts I watch, the more I realize I've been baseballing wrong my whole life.
As an outfielder I use to put three in the pink😁 helped create a deeper pocket!
We always had the index on the back of the glove in the the outfield.
This has always been the way I naturally wore my glove without any coaching, so much more comfortable and your glove forms a much nicer pocket
Some gloves have such a deep pocket design that you can't hardly close it the traditional way. You pretty much have to go 2 in the pink
Just figured that out today and I wish I knew wayyyyy sooner!
this depends on comfort, in the outfield, or at 3rd fs do this, at 2nd or short dont bc you need a shallow pocket for transition speed, at first and outfield i go two in the pinky though
Would definitely not recommend doing this at 3rd.
3rd baseman and been 2 in the pink for 15 years now. My dad taught me as a young lad!

I go 2 in the pink at 3rd. Traditional at short
I’m a second baseman and somehow it helped me but it prolly because the model of glove I got

Great advice. Thanks, Coach.
This was how my Dad taught me how to hold my glove as a 4 year old. I just assumed everyone knew this my whole life til now haha
I run two in the pinky already
I’ve been doing that my whole life on accident😅
I’ve always used middle and ring finger in the ring finger slot, sliding the index finger one over. Same premise but I found it more comfortable.
I have worn it like that ever since I’ve started.
Wrong
My pinky was always in pain. This change of fingers made the glove incredibly comfortable. Thank you sir.
Bro I’m a first baseman and I put my ring and middle finger in the ring finger hole and then put my pointer out💀💀💀
I appreciate it and i want to use two in the pinky, but i am a second baseman and need a shallow pocket
I think it’s all about preference
Don’t tell me what to do
I do 2 in the pinky to put and then my thumb in cane you make a vid on that
If this is how they were intended to be worn then they wouldn't have 5 fingers lol.
i know people that love this method but i play center field and i like to put all in because it allows me to have a deeper pocket and lots of control over the glove in my opinion
You can also do two in the ring finger hole. Still gives you the same ‘extra’ pocket space but gives the top of the glove extra support too. Like when you catch half the ball at the top of your glove (ice cream cone) it won’t tend to flip the glove.
Every time I see this guy it look like he’s wearing a trainer glove
This really helped, as I was wearing it on the wrong foot.
Preach. I have mentioned this so many times.
Sometimes it is not preferred, but generally it works very well.
Also make sure not to put that index finger outside of the hole, because you will drive the internal finger divider between the index and ring finger straight through the palm. This will create a hole through the palm leather if you refuse to out your index finger inside the glove with a TIP grip.😊
What? Just stick your index finger out. It's why Rawlings invented the Fastback glove with the small finger hole.
@@dalethelander3781
Try TIP...it places better leverage at the edges....the index finger on your hand is more or less useless for glove closure.
@@wagnerbaseballgloverepair6853 I prefer my way, been doing it since the 70s. And it looks like Rawlings has discontinued the Fastback glove line, so I'll be using my Randy Johnson signature for the duration.

@@wagnerbaseballgloverepair6853 You repair gloves?
This advice surprised me. You could say it was The Shocker
Its not wrong the other way. Simply matter of comfort
As an infielder I think 1 in each hole is better because we need to get rid of the ball quicker so we need a shallower pocket
Thoughts on 5 in the pinky?
It really depends on your pocket size preference and your position. Outfield is fine for 2 In the pinky bc you want a nice big pocket, but in the infield, you want a shallower pocket with better transfers
If you can’t field well, maybe adjust the way you wear your glove. If you’re fielding well and nothing hurts, keep doing it however you’re doing it. I’ve played every position in the field and I’m usually all fingers in their normal holes unless I’m catching then it’s index out. I tried two in the pinky a couple times but I never felt I had good control of the glove
I wish this would be used more widely for catchers it will save you hand a lot of pain
I’m a D1 catcher, I do it with all my gloves now cuz my hand takes a beating
The actual reason for wearing a glove 2 in the pinky is it will give you a deeper pocket. Plus the gloves easier to squeeze. It all depends on the age of the ballplayer, the quality+pattern+position or positions you play. It matters on how you should wear your glove. Remember your gloves the extension of your hand. Example: if you're playing up the middle you need to have quicker ball transfers. Meaning shallower pocket. So you would usually want to wear your glove tradition. But it does depend on if you're comfortable wearing your glove that way. Hope this helps you players out on the diamond.
If ur a middle infielder usin a 11.25” with good hands you won’t have an issue. Deep pocket but not deep enough to get lost or hard to find
this is great for when you need room for error due to lack of training
I always have used a he two in the pinky methods. Wasn’t really aware since I was in little league that other center fielders would wear it any other way.
Trying this at next practice and if I like it teaching it to my kids thank you
All my first basemen, like this
It was a very tough transition for me since I played "regular" for so many years. Balls that would normally hit the pocket would hit the heel instead.
I eventually went back to the original way.
Old dog.... new tricks. Tough.
Why were you even wearing your glove with all fingers in? You stick the index finger out. Been done for decades.
I noticed that Is easier to close as well while breaking in my new glove thx!
It’s makes a digger pocket and middle infields hate that because it makes it ten times hard to have a fast and smooth translate out of the glove and it was middle infielders prone to error and late throws
It all depends on the type of glove, your position on field, and how you want to break in
I learned that from a 1.Bundesliga guy a few years back and use it even while playing short or 2b. Since i dont have the biggest hands it makes securing hard hit balls way easier since my glove got shot of my hand a few times.

Been doing this for 35 years. Jammed my index finger and couldnt squeeze. My dad had me try it when I was 7 and it’s the only way I could use it. Now I have my son doing it and the kids I coach have at least tried it. Helps beginners squeeze better and drop less balls.
I play 2B/SS/3B... the shorter and smaller the pocket, the better. Get the ball in, get the ball out. I hate 2 pinky unless im playing outfield and need to catch the ball deep in my glove with a secure squeeze. You NEVER squeeze the ball when youre playing IF unless C or 1B
Not true 3B squeezes all the time on hard hit liners or choppy grounders.
Great concept it tried it and it feels good but I play 3rd base so it doesn't feel right to me it leaves a portion of my hand exposed and if I take a laser shot my glove will fly right off
Be n doing this since the 2nd grade. I’m a 8th grader now. Needs more recognition for how good it is once you get comfortable with it
Feels awkward for sure. A lot of gloves have a window for your pointer finger to be outside of glove essentially the same as this technique to open the pocket more; however when you play catch it does feel like more secure in the pocket with your technique.
I tried this for a while, but after playing for so many years, I kept on heeling balls that would have been in the pocket. Maybe I should've stuck with it for longer, or tried it to start preseason.
Ove tried this for the outfield and it feels weird at first like I literally didn't feel when I caught the ball the first two times. Eventually you'll get used to it and it'll feel great especially with the pocket
Helped a lot
Yes sir! Old school. That's how we did it back in the day.
Ya I used this when I played first base but now I’m mostly second or short so I don’t do it anymore but did help

This information would have been useful to me in 1978. Lol
Why? Didn't you stick your index finger out? Use a Rawlings Fastback glove with the finger hole?
@@dalethelander3781 Lol of course. Never even understood why?
I was a catcher for 11 years yup that is how we wore the mit as well...
My dad told me about this, and i play first base, so it works perfectly
For a catcher wear your mit two in the ring which is the same as two in the pinky but in the ring finger slot or whatever there calld
I love your videos
3 in the pinky for outfield and 2 in the pinky for infleid
My baseball coach told me to do this because i couldn’t catch anything I mean I could but not all the time but It did help me catch baseball
My dad taught me that back in five pitch. That’s how I wore my glove from little league to college ball. I remember teammates minds would be blown when I’d show them.
Does anybody still trap the ball on the back of the fingers to make for a quick transfer on the double play?
Does this make that easier or harder?
I already do this although it is harder to break it in this way cuz the pinky hole is designed for one pinky so it’s very small
Is it bad I go 3 in the pinky I just like the way it feels better
Why do people wear them with the palm almost entirely out? Sincere question
This is a big confident commentary by a guy that looks like he may have caught or played 1B. Those are called “mitts” big fellah.
Is this for stretching the leather? So do we change up 2 fingers every hole? Would that compromise the leather at all?
There’s no such thing as a right/wrong way to wear your glove. Wear it how you want
It really just depends on the position you're playing.
No crap we have been doing that for 25 years in south Florida. It’s about time the world figured out the best way to wear a glove and yes it works for the infield.
my dad taught me this when i was 10, i am now 59. I do show my 12U's this, most are sticking to it. we called it Double up
