  • The Railroader developer is still working diligently on updating and bug squashing as there've been literally 3 or 4 patches in a few weeks addressing some major - and not so major - issues.
    We also complete the line from Sylva alllllllll the way to Andrews over the insane 4.5% grade in company mode and I'm terrified.
    Let's begin.

    The paper company requires a lot of pulpwood and everything else comes from one of the interchanges. Also, about of half of the loads from the copper and coal mines have to get up that hill now! I no longer skip hours or use the sleep function. Lots of night operations are necessary.

    You may want to consider running larger trains as double headers. It would likely save fuel going up the grades and reduce the amount of struggle for the engines.

      Coal trains and double heading go hand in hand

    IRL, the grade of the Graham County interchange is a little over 2%; add in the fact the main line grade is also over 3% in that area and it's downhill, while the GC gradient is uphill.

    A passenger train dedicated to Alarka. Now THAT'S an idea!

    • @kevinbeach3621
      @kevinbeach3621 Před 4 měsíci +2

      I thought of this too but quickly abandoned it. I noted that when passengers debark at Alarka jct. I didn't get paid for bringing them that far and then the passengers reset their point of origin to Alarka jct. so when they get to Alarka, I only got a dollar for each. Also my first run, I had more than 84 passengers and the rest despawned before I even made it to Alarka the first run.

    • @jereljackson6944
      @jereljackson6944 Před měsícem

      @@kevinbeach3621 yeah, hopefully they’ll address that issue (getting paid when you disembark them), unless you do get paid, but it’s once they get to their final destination (without the payment “resetting” as if they originated from the disembarked station). I have not been willing to verify if that’s the case (too busy), so I simply just run one train, for now to all the destinations.

      Why not make the Alarka Passenger an accommodation train and run it down to Bryson for the good citizens to spend a day shopping. That would mean a morning and evening round trip, but Passenger pays well, right?

    Your content is awesome I like the way you put things, I just got sylva and I haved to admit it gets busy, hope to play with you some day, can't wait for the next railroader video

      Hey I appreciate it!
      It can seem busy but you can always put off certain contracts. Recently I've only stuck w the larger ones that equal pay/time
      So i know i can get a few hundred at Appalachian hardwood spotting a few cars vs stenzel manufacturing with only 1 car which takes more time

    • @Ice-il4bu
      @Ice-il4bu Před 4 měsíci

      That makes sense, I was thinking about doing that but I wasn't sure if that would have been a good move

    At this point in the game, you’re gotta spend money to make money. Invest in a fleet of C-55s to get those interchangr trains over the grade! There’s a great thread pn the Railroder discord with a chart showing tonnage for each engine on any given grade. My first train had 2 big Consolidations with a Decapod shoving on the rear, and it still fell flat on its face. Ended up doubling the hill with all 3 engines and I still barely made it.

    • @09JDCTrainMan
      @09JDCTrainMan Před 3 měsíci

      Can you relay the some of the tonnage ratings? To Sylva, since I don't have Andrews yet and I got some big trains going up that 1% grade

    • @jereljackson6944
      @jereljackson6944 Před měsícem

      @@09JDCTrainManI was able to get one G-16 Mogul to take 920+ tons from Bryson to Whittier (post Alarka Branch empties), which impressed me! The speed dropped down to about 5 mph, but it made it over the Governors Island grade. Before, I MU’d two G-16s to get the tonnage from Bryson up to Alarka Jct. for the Alarka branch build/milestone. All I’ve got are G-16s (Whittier to Nantahala built so far, with the Red Marble Grade in progress), but I’m looking at possibly bigger locomotives soon, too! I cannot wait for any new Railroader updates because I’ve got this feeling things within the game may change drastically after those updates, affecting my purchasing decisions, so I’m sticking with Moguls for now-but I’m running out of time and patience. 😆

    Cars from Andrews Interchange to Sylva? Oh my goodness! Yeah I'm definitely holding off Andrews for now, I already get a ton of cars at the Sylva Interchange, so many that the interchange gets served twice, and I have Nantahala unlocked. I mean, yeah, I'm able to manage, but it sure is a lot. Still enjoying the heck out of this game tho.

    Hopefully they do a big scenery update in the near future. While I've been playing it pretty much exclusively now, the scenery is so bland that it gets boring pretty quickly. I end up setting the AI to do the work and doing something else.

    Is the main line on railroder just one way I hate have to go forward then backing up is there anyplace that it connects back up with the mainline somewhere else so I can go like in a big circle and hit all the stations with my passenger train

      All you have are Wyes in the game, so far as I can tell. The cabooses are available for long shove/reverse movements, if you’re attempting to run more prototypical. Perhaps they’ll add the ability to build track, or at least give you an option to milestone in balloon tracks, and what-not?

    I’m still taking baby steps and just pushing past Bryson. I am definitely liking the game. Nice to see I still have plenty of territory to explore and work to do. Can anyone explain why the time of the 2nd interchange service seems to change through the day?

    • @schnauzahpowahz
      @schnauzahpowahz  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Theres no need to rush. Make sure youve got a good loco fleet. Makes everything much smoother

    • @jereljackson6944
      @jereljackson6944 Před měsícem +1

      It changes throughout the day to reflect the 2 hour and 30 minute time difference if you were to select/activate it right then and there. Let’s say it’s 10:00 now game-time, your Interchange would be serviced at 12:30. It simply is there to give you an easier time reference, rather than doing the math yourself.

    There is no way to manage everything between noth ends of the railroad this size. I am going to keep Slyva to Alarka and call it good. The only way to run this thing that big is to have multiple palyers. One of my best friends has an HO 3 deck layout in a 2200+ sf building and we can't even keep it managed, but we built it to run trains.

    • @schnauzahpowahz
      @schnauzahpowahz  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Its not that tough, more people are helpful but keeping certain contracts and axing others is key. Gotta manage time wisely. Ive been having a road train from sylva and andrews meet in bryson and its do-able. Also keep in mind most contracts'll give you a few days to take cars

      @@nickforest7816that’s the point of trains…to deliver passengers and freight once you unlock everything the real fun of running the railroad comes into play . If you’re just playing to explore and unlock some giant map this game isn’t for you. Also if they kept adding more and more it would become unmanageable. Even with AI it’s difficult for one human to run tons of trains and doing yard work in 1 day you would need a crew of 5 people to run the entire railroad
