This video clip is taken from a stage show video produced by me and my close friend and then business partner, Russell Hadeed. Russell was the owner of the most popular Kingston nightclub in the late 80s/early 90s, named "Godfathers". Godfathers later became the Asylum nightclub and were located on Knutsford Boulevard, in the business district called New Kingston. Russell and I produced a slew of video products, one of which,
"Reggae Dancehall '93", we took in 1994 to MIDEM, Cannes, France, to seek international distribution.
The stage show itself, from which this video clip is taken is called "Super Bash '93" and was produced by our good friend, the late great, popular nightclub celebrity/entrepreneur, Danny Champagne, who hung out with his player crew, at Godfathers, most nights, in its heyday. The stage show was held at the popular Fort Clarence Beach, Hellshire, St. Catherine, Jamaica. "Super Beach Bash '93" was not your typical stage show as the promoter tried to capture the premium nightclub lifestyle at the venue, with VIP tents etc.
1993 was a time when Beenie Man and Bounty Killa were fierce dancehall rivals, spewing gun lyrics in loads, and ironically, at a time when the popular dancehall artist, Panhead, was just murdered.
It was also a time when Lady Saw was also at her rawest best. - Zábava
Lady Saw is a once in a lifetime artist, she set the trend!
