Terribly sorry for such a long wait on this project! Life had gotten insane since we had posted the original call for this, we thank everyone for their patience with this :) And thank you to all the artists/animators who helped make this Collab!!
We think it is important that we make some points about this project!

Neither hosts support the artist who created the term MAP(multi animator project), so we do not want to associate with it.
Useage of feathers :.
Both hosts were unaware of the feather's symbolism when the Collab was created, regardless we deeply apologize for the use of them in the Collab and apologize to the animators who unknowingly had to animate it, I believe it is important to educate yourself and others on why it is inappropriate:

I just want to say, as native American please don't feel bad about the feather thing. It's not offensive, it's not cultural appropriation it's people whining about literally pixels on a screen in a video about CATS. Please don't think all of us are offended by something that happens to coincide with real life
Yeah like I'm pretty sure they added it initially to the design cause.. *dove*wing? Doves are birds? Ivypool has an ivy leaf on her chest too it's clearly supposed to hint at their names not anything to do with human cultures they're cats 😬
yeah, i didn't really get the point the doc was trying to make and i have native ancestry (unknown native american + taino; unfortunately ancestry can't be too specific but the taino is from my mom's side for sure since her mom comes from moca and we have a specific DNA marker tying us to the area) so i know a lot of stuff about symbolism as it pertains to native cultures since my aunt taught me about our ancestors when i was a kid + preteen.
my main issue is that it's a cat. do people think the cats have any idea about things like racism, genocide, and/or cultural appropriation??? the answer is no, they don't even understand what cars are and call them monsters.
they're cats who live in the forest, occasionally have supernatural powers given to them by their celestial dead ancestors that they worship + commune with by being by supernatural objects, can be harmed by their evil dead ancestors they actively avoid, and have a strict set of rules + a relatively large and complex naming system. they shouldn't even be physically able to put things behind their ears or in their fur deliberately because they don't have opposable thumbs/something to fasten the item to their bodies, with the possible exception of matted fur...but i have a feeling that'd be painful and difficult for the cat to use to fasten something.
nothing about that is realistic when it comes to cats in our world. it makes no sense to me to equate the design choices made for fictional cats with reality-interfering dead ancestors who can give them superpowers to real, living groups of people being oppressed in real time.
I'm not native american but I've read through a ton of different opinions from people who are (some think it is cultural appropriation, most don't), and while I understand where the doc is coming from I don't believe the feathers closely resemble the racist caricature enough to be something considered offensive. Like, if they put a native headdress on a cat, that'd be bad. But imo, one or two feathers tucked behind a cat's ear just isn't very reminiscent of these stereotype and therefore doesn't really hold the same weight.

I'm indigenous and I honestly don't have a problem with people using feathers in character designs, as long as there's a reason for it. Cats hunt birds, so I could see one of the warriors keeping a feather after a particularly enjoyable or memorable hunt. I don't see it as cultural appropriation to add feathers to a character design, but I do it as offensive when people add feathers to characters just to make them look indigenous. The feathers here were obviously NOT meant to make the characters appear indigenous. They were a simple, pretty design choice. Entirely innocent. When you think of cats like the ones in the warriors series, it's easy for feathers to come to mind.
The document was for good intentions, but they are cats.. and it was because of the cats name LITERALLY DOVE WING.. DOVES HAVE FEATHERS.. and also dove feathers aren’t in headdresses

1:50 omg I absolutely love this part with Hawk and Bramble! The attention to detail on how Hawkfrost grabs Brambleclaw’s paw and basically tell him that if he doesn’t believe in him, believe that what he’s doing is right, then he can strike him down himself. I love it!!
Thank you (I was the animator for that part lol)! I figured it would make the moment Bramble actually kills him all the more dramatic. Glad people like it!

As a Native American, honestly don’t even feel bad about the feather. I don’t take offense, it looks like it has meaning, like the cats hunt birds right ? I’d see why they would keep a feather behind their ears. If it’s not something to offend, then it shouldn’t be a big deal :)
It's not about that at all. People put objects on the Warriors' characters because it has to do with their names. This character is called Dovewing, so she is wearing a doves feather. The character called Ivypool is wearing ivy. The character called Jayfeather is often drawn to have a bluejay feather behind his ear, and Leafpool has a leaf behind her ear. That's all it is. I don't understand how anyone could have taken offense... did they not read the books?

The part where the StarClan cats show up is so amazing! The happiness in Ivypool's eyes and expression just captures how all the Clan cats were happy that reinforcements showed up.

I told showed my friend who is a Native American this map and they said without em even mentioning the fresher thing: “wow I really like the coloring and shading and the feather is super cool!
I cannot be the only person to realize this, but does it look like Ivy's black streaks on her face make it look like she is constantly streaming tears of resentment from her eyes? It makes the scenes so much more impactful.

Wait hold up people are complaining about a feather in Dove's design?! I thought it was because her name is Dovewing- and dove's are birds... And am I the only one who draws feathers in characters because it's cute looking or..?

nah, the feathers are fine. no one culture owns something as simple as feathers behind a character's ear.. especially if that was put there not even as a reference to that culture or taken from it??

Ans the other thing is I am aboriginal, Hopi, Métis and something else to be exact on my grandfathers and other grandmothers side and yes honor feathers are a symbol of high honor and achievement or recovery. I possess one myself, but for the use in animation shouldnt be fought over, especially if it is not being used in any way that could offend someone or be tied to any peoples of nations. I may not have a card but I do participate in culture and I know some of the languages, practices and the medicine wheel and teachings. And it makes me slightly mad when I see non indiginous/aboriginal peoples apologising for the use of feathers in ways where the context makes no sense. Its good to leave a disclaimer and spread the word but please dont apologise for it, that in itself is worse than no awareness.

So you mean that not all indigenous people are upset over feathers being used in animation? Tbh that’s what I thought. Also wanna add in, I’m from Celtic origins, and my ancestors would wear feathers as well in their hair or on their garments, and it was meant as a symbol of honor as well. (And still is today) I don’t find anything wrong with others animating feathers, sure spreading awareness for its meaning in different cultures is fine, but personally, I don’t think banning feathers from animation is very fair. It’s not racist, nobody is discriminating against cultures that wear feathers, feathers are beautiful pieces of natural jewelry that cats could easily find and put in their fur. (Also worth mentioning, African tribes, and Brazilians also wear feathers as a part of their culture, not just indigenous cultures, so it’s kinda rude of them to say in the doc that nobody but indigenous people get a say, because there are more cultures out their that use feathers as a huge part of their way of living.) This is not to hate on the map in any way, I think the final product turned out great! Glad someone mentioned this though! Have a great day.
@@yesitsme4817 Yeah and I'm tired of white snowflakes hearing some people being "uncomfy" with it and trying to ban it from animation and apologising for the use of feathers. When its beautiful, its not offensive, it has no relation to it intentionally and its not racist. It has nothing to do with real cultural appropriation and im tired of people who arent of origin trying to ban it. Most of us think it has no relation, it looks pretty, awareness of what it means should be spread but people shouldnt be making claims on what it means in unrelated animations. Apologising for it is worse than the "racist appropriation in animation and media" and its just sensitivity from people not of culture most of the time. Not all of us care for it because its not offensive and its not discomforting, plus most of the time it has no relation to the issue itself.

Feathers are a natural thing, they come from birds which can either pick them out or lose them some other way. Someone, anyone could be walking down the street, see a feather and decide "Hey, this feather looks cool, imma put it in my hair". Its a thing people often do with flowers (cannot count how many animations I've seen of people just picking flowers up and putting them in their hair) so I think its also believable that people would do so with feathers. Hell, that's part of the reason one of my own hair concepts for one of my characters has feathers coming out of the hair. I thought that flowers and feathers looked pretty together so I just whacked both on. I don't think that's really appropriation because I literally just took two things which exist naturally and threw them in my characters hair because I believe both things looked pretty and would fit. The concept itself (putting a feather in your hair) isn't really creative enough that anyone doing it would be doing appropriation. Now, if it was something like taking a feather from a specific bird, painting a very specific pattern on said feather and then placing it in your hair in a very specific way I think calling it appropriation would be a lot more believable but this is a mistake any child walking outside could make. Also people could definitely use this in racist/appropriately ways but simply just placing a feather in your characters hair just isn't it. Anybody could do it whether or not they even knew about the culture.
Of course I could be wrong with some of the things I've said but this is how I've viewed it ever since I first read the doc. Not wanting people to use your culture in inappropriate/offensive ways is completely understandable but for something like placing a feather in your hair I feel like it'd have to be something more obvious/devious then just the feather placing part. Feathers are pretty, its natural people would want to use them/wear them. If anyone disagrees with something I've said here then feel free to counter any of my points but for now this is how I view it.

I swear IvyPool risked her life to spy for her clan and dovewing is given so my more appreciation just for having powers. Plus Ivy didn’t run off with a Shadowclan cat
she isnt given more appreciation over half the fandom hates dovewing for reasons and ivypool is much more loved so its the opposite from what you think even though personally i think both dovewing and ivypool are cool

The animation is so clean and all of it is gorgeous! I do want to mention that I was unaware of any issues with the feather in character designs, so I appreciate the knowledge before I’ve made any like that.

I absolutely love this map! I’ve been a warrior cats fan since like I’ve read the first book, and this animation is just giving me chills man! All the animators are so talented!
