- Tambour doors are flexible sliding doors that are made from several slats called tambours. The tambour slats are attached to a piece of canvas. Tambour doors are often used on roll top desks, console cabinets, and kitchen appliance garage cabinets.

I would love to have my whole kitchen redone in walnut all with tambour doors and then add fluted wood detail to the drawer fronts to match!
WOW thanks hanks thanks - I'm looking for long long time how to build this one in Germany and in the youtube channel without success or results -thanks thanks sooooo much 👍👍👍 Now i`m looking for the router bits !!!!
Beautiful piece of useful ART. Thanks a lot! Cheers from Brazil
wow
brilliant..
can you show how to make a wooden sliding door for the shower cabin?
Really nice doors and good practice video. Thanks for showing this. Greetings from bavaria #EuerKonstantin
Amazing thank you for sharing
Like many, I came here to learn more about this style of door. I was also wondering if you could adapt it into a pocket door style, where it's mostly encased in the wall? This would be a great adaptation for anyone with very small spaces trying to preserve wall/floor space; if it's feasible.
About walls, drywall is hollow, but it has frames inside. It would be great to have a special frame system with inner gaps, large enough to install tracks and sliding doors.
Hello , I just want to know the tools you have to make the design ( cut ) the wood ?
Thank you
How tall can you make these ? I'm considering a new tool cabinet with doors that maybe 36" tall or more . I hate the doors swinging out in to the work area . They are always in the way . Would the additional support of Rocklers bit help for taller doors or should I consider the bits that actual lock together with no canvas back . Has any one made tall doors ? I would think its like a roll top desk on its side .
Thank you mr Rob
I would like to know how to apply a finish, as well as the recommended finisf, for the tambors. Should finish be applied before applying the canvas?
This is great,thanks for sharing.
Wheels inside would work?
We had an old TV back in 1990...it had a sliding tambour door cabinet...I wonder how they made it back then...
Is there a way to do this with a plexi-glass to make a see through door?
Hello, very good your video! My name is Thiago and I'm in Brazil, I would like to know which manufacturer and model of the cutters used to manufacture the door?
Could you use leather instead of canvas?
What is the reason that "hide glue" was chosen ? Wouldn't regular wood glue work as well?
He mentions a couple advantages in the video, the friction activated setting and reversibility. If you mess up or need to perform a repair (say one of the tambour rabbits breaks and its causing the whole sliding action to stick,) you can remove the canvas with steam, replace the broken piece and reapply the canvas. I think hide glue doesn't set as stiff as wood glue does either so it probably allows for bending around the corners.
could you show a video on how to make the track for the tambour door please
You can certainly do it by hand with a router but the easiest way to do it is with a cnc
thank you , that was so nice work, what kind of fabric you use? can you please show a close up of the glue? thanks again
The fabric is canvas that you can buy at any fabric store. You can find the Liquid Hide Glue on our website at www.rockler.com/titebondreg-liquid-hide-glue-choose-size
@@rockler Thank you ..
I wanna try and build a better sturdier camber door

Do you think this could work as a wall to hide a washer/dryer?
Hi Rebecca, we recommend reaching out to our product support team at 1-800-260-9663 or support@rockler.com. They will be able to answer this question for you. Thanks!
can it be used the same concept for a full size sliding door that can roll in a corner when open?
Hi Miguel Harari, Please reach out to our product support team at 1-800-260-9663 or support@rockler.com. They'll be able to assist you with your question. Thank you
Is this possible to do it by hand or do I absolutely need a table router. Or it's just easier with a table.
With the proper tools and time, it would be possible to make it by hand.
Does anyone have an idea about the longevity of tambour doors, especially those opening horizontally ? There could be loads of wear at the bottom (for a project I’d be using tambours of 70cm length).
Hard to say on longevity but you may need to either use #59739 Nylon tape on the bottom from Rockler or wax the track on a somewhat regular basis depending on usage.
What glue would you use of you use to make this good for exterior?I have a 72"wide x 32" high cabana window I'd like to close off. So wind, rain, and snow.
I would use Titebond III wood glue for that type of project.
@@rockler Thank you!

What do you think of the dimension? Is this feasible for an outdoor application?
If I want to treat the wood after a few years of exposure to the elements, what would you use?
So they did bombard you with these questions: I just want to make sure this will work in the long run for my customer / buddy.
I don't see anything wrong with your dimensions. I would use a product called Outdoor Oil by General finishes to treat the wood.
I looked thru all Rockler videos and don't see how you cut the sliding track inside the carcass. Will you have a video about that? thanks

Hey! How long is the max possible? Does it still work with 1,7m?
Hi Theos Woodwork, Please reach out to our product support team at 1-800-260-9663 or support@rockler.com. They'll be able to assist you. Thank you
Baik terimakasih.
Can you make a door larger than 80 cm in width and 2 meters in length?
That size is doable. If you consider roll top desks were roughly that size, it will give you confidence. It would be prudent to make the track that the tambour slides in fairly deep, perhaps up to an inch (2.5 cm).
And how do you remove them from the front? Is there any way?
Not from the front they slide in from the back.
Happy Birthday
Would you make a set of doors to order?
We sell all the tools and lumber you will need to build your own. We are a retailer and learning resource, unfortunately we do not build doors for order.
Has anyone made a 5'wide x approximately a 7' high tambor door to enclose a laundry area?
Well done and a good idea !!!! LZACCARO
What is this wood kind
The tambour slats are made of oak for this video, but they could be made of any wood species.
👍
Good mesin good job, not good mesin no good job
OMG Well, I mean, it's Fabulous... but I will Pay someone to do this! Bahahahahahaaa
another maker channel that assumes you have a complete commercial workshop at your disposal....
Never used this much hide glue in my life. Or any, really. Kinda nasty.
