The 20-40mm and the 50-400mm are my two lenses. I love them so much. I mostly shoot video. Just traveled to Bangkok and Tokyo with them and both of them perform amazing and the results are insane.
wicked combo isnt it!
Dude stellar footage!! 50-400 is a a unique focal length. I’m super impressed with this and their 35-150! 💯📸
Thank you mate! Yeah dude the 35-150 has to be my absolute fave!
Looks like this will be on my newest arsenal … thank you great review and beautiful images… stay blessed
I've been using this lens with my A7IV for a couple of months for stills. As you say, a very versatile and sharp lens. I dithered quite a while when it was first announced as I have never used a third party lens. Its hardly been off my camera and I find its ideal for my woodland/landscape photography. Worth every penny!!
Love to hear it Barry!
Tamron Lenses are beasts. Great video dude!
Hi just found your video. Great video. Thanks for the no bs content. Keep it up
excellent narration. Thankyou
Great video with excellent examples of what the lens can do. I am currently testing the 50-400 and the 20-40. I am happy with both. I think this is the perfect landscape photography duo.The 50-400 keepers are significantly higher than my 150-500. I am going to swap my 17-28 for the 20-40 and my 150-500 and 70-300 for the 50-400.
Thank you!
Man pair this with the 20-40mm and you’re golden for travel photography!
Absolutely!
Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 coming on January 12. Also, Tamron 150-400mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III VC VXD coming soon.
that sigma lens is MASSIVE
I've been using my Tamron 35-150 for landscapes, but flaring is sometimes a problem. Can you do a side-by-side comparison with the 50-400 for flaring?
love my tamron lense, maybe ill look to try this one out
Would be perfect for you bro!
After testing the lens for a few weeks some months ago, I ended up buying it recently. I have not done any actual landscape work with my copy yet but the tests around my backyard look as good as I had seen with the test lens. For the money and the versatility, this lens is a no brainer.
I just wish Tamron would have included the must have tripod collar. This lens is sitting on the cusp of not needing a collar but it is safer to have one so that the weight of the lens does not put pressure on the camera mount.
Thanks for the review! I wonder how the 50-400 compares to the Tamron 28-200 on overlapping focal range? I'm super happy with that lens but sometimes I find it too short for landscapes and my 200-600 is a beast to bring along every time I'm out.
Bought the 50-400. I think they are very close when comparing them. Super happy with both lenses. The 50-400 stays on the camera most of the time. Will keep the 28-200 as a lightweight option.
Great video. Have you tried it on birds in flight tracking after update to firmaware 02? Hitrate?
Also looking for this answer.
How is this compared to a Tamrom 70-300
There are 2 stabilization modes in this lens. What is the difference between them, when each of them should be used?
I believe one is for general use and the other is specifically for panning
BTW: In 2019 I took my 28-75 lens and a Sony A7RIII on a motorcycle ride from Miami to Thailand over 6 months. One camera. One lens. Amazing shots and fun. I carried the camera everywhere to every small village, town and 17 countries... But I did miss some shots due to the lack of a wide-length but I cropped when needed for shots to far -- not the best... If the 35-150 existed I would have taken that and left it on my camera along with a 17-28 to fill in gaps.
Had a look at the sigma 60-600 and its weight hmm nearly 2.5 kgs. Twice the weight of the tamron 50-400. I go tramping and have to carry the lens
Cheers have a great day
Me finding out there's a moose somewhere in colorado 😰
Why dont you consider a 35-150 on a full frame Sony with say 60mp and then crop? You can use the 35-150 in lower light and even night. Pair that with a 17-28 or a 16-35 Sony GM. Sure, if you go to Africa and need a long range -- go with the 50-400 to capture animals. Where am I wrong?
