  • What was Denmark’s role in the Northern Crusades and what impact did the Danes have on medieval history?
    The Danish conquests against the remaining pagan powers in northern Europe is an important, yet often unknown part of the history of the northern crusades. This part in danish history is where Denmark, in just a couple generations, was transformed from a disorganized backwater plagued by civil war to a major medieval great power in northern Europe.
    Outside of covering the danish wars against the wends, we're also going to cover Denmark’s wars with the duchy of Pomerania as well as the fall of the duchy of Saxony.

    In all three episodes about the Northern Crusades, the fact of the movement of the Euro-aggression of the Northern Crusades against Orthodox Russia is silent, although everyone has heard about the Ice Battle of 1242, but no one knows that the Ice Massacre was only a small episode of two centuries of the Euro-aggression of the Northern Crusades against Orthodox Russia along the entire western border of Russia, starting from the Carpathians and up to the Finnish The bay...

      Narh, nothing is actually wrong here, we just like complaining... Compared to most everywhere else in the world though, we're pretty well off.
      My history teacher once described Danish history as something like.
      "We had a great run with the vikings, then people figured out where we lived and that was the end of that... Then we had a great time after the plague, nothing like the death of half the country to redistribute the wealth and bring people together."
      Danish history often described the 15-16'th century as a Danish Golden Age. Pretty far fetched if you ask me..

      @@TheIfifi That's interesting. When I read Swedish history in elementary school Denmark often came up, usually as the enemy of Sweden, with example's like Christian II, the Scania wars, Valdemar II sacking Visby e.tc but we never really learnt about northern European history from Denmark's perspective. I didn't know the 15- 16th century was seen as a Danish golden age. Was it because you we're at the head of the Kalmar union? I'm also kind of curious, how did you remembered Sweden portrayed in danish history classes?

    Great video. I would like to explain two things:
    1. I would like to know where you found name Bogislaw. I never heard that form of name ( in Poland he is known as Bogusław I, where ł is read like English w and w is read like v).
    2. In the name Jaromar, you read J like y in yellow.

      Thanks for the feedback, and I'm happy to hear you liked the video. Names can be tricky to get right when editing. The misspelling with the name Bogislav was because I copied how they had spelled the name in Wikipedia since it's faster than trying to dig up how they spelled the name in the literature I'm using. Regarding the pronunciation of names, I usually go with what it sounds like in English, and my Swedish dialect will effect how I pronounce names which makes some mispronunciations hard to avoid.

    Wait, a little question: So all the region of Wendia and Pomerania and stuff was already part of the Holy Roman Empire, despite being pagan?

    • @quillinkhistory9539
      @quillinkhistory9539  Před 3 lety +1

      I don't think the emperor claimed the land of the Oborite tribes(the land covered in blue), which was the main pagan area in the region at the time, was a part of the Holy roman empire. The duchy a Pomerania and Saxony, however, was officially a part of the empire. Exactly what territory was and was not within the empire is something that the literature is seldom clear about. I hope that answered your question.

    Very strange, pretentious, and distracting enunciation in this video’s narration. I am *NOT* talking about the narrator’s *ACCENT*: that is NOT the problem at all. It is the bombastic and condescending *TONE* that is both annoying and quite distracting from what *OUGHT* to be historically significant and fascinating content
