How to Crochet Shell Skirt (6-12 months)

  • This is a multiple of 5 stitch pattern. My suggestion for other size:
    0-6 months : 45 rows ribbing
    6-12 months : 55 rows ribbing
    1-3 years old : 65 rows ribbing.

    PATTERN :
    Baby Shell Skirt
    Size : 6-12 months
    Yarn : Caron Simply Soft / medium weight #4 yarn
    Hook : 4.5mm / 5.00mm
    4.50mm hook
    Chain 9
    Row 1 : 8 sc (start from 2nd chain from hook)
    Row 2-55 : chain 1, 8 sc ( 7sc crochet into back loop only, last sc crochet full sts)
    Join both ends by sc all 8 sts
    Round 1 : chain 2 (count as dc), 54 dc. Slip sts (55 sts)
    Change to 5.00mm hook
    Round 2 : chain 2 (count as dc), skip 1 sts, shell sts (2 dc, chain 1, 2 dc), skip 1 sts, 1 dc, * 1dc, skip 1 sts, shell sts, skip 1 sts, 1 dc*. Repeat to till last sts. Slip its on chain 2.
    Round 3 & 4 : chain 2 (count as dc), shell sts (3 dc, chain 1, 3 dc), 1 dc, * 1 dc, shell, 1 dc * . Repeat to till end. Slip its on chain 2.
    Round 5-7 : chain 2 (count as dc), shell sts (3 dc, chain 1, 3 dc), 1 dc, * 1 dc, shell, 1 dc . Repeat *to till end. Slip sts at chain 2.
    Round 8-10 : chain 3 (count as dc + chain 1), shell sts (3 dc, chain 1, 3 dc), chain 1, 1 dc, * 1 dc, chain 1, shell, chain 1, 1 dc . Repeat *to till end. Slip sts at 2nd chain.
    Round 11 : chain 3 (count as dc + chain 1), shell sts (7 dc), chain 1, 1 dc, * 1 dc, chain 1, shell, chain 1, 1 dc . Repeat *to till end. Slip sts at 2nd chain.
    Cut yarn and weave in end.

    Thank you so much. Very easy to follow, directions on screen made it easier.. The string for the waist, when I slip stitch in the ‘bump’, the one at the back it makes more of a cord for me. Keep up your videos.

    I want to try and make one for ME - an adult. I will need to make some adjustments, but it looks easy enough. I will probably put it as the "skirt" lower section of a Empire Waist top. I hope it comes out nicely.

    I am a little confused because the pattern says row 3&4 your shell stitch is 3dc- ch 1 dc3 on your video you are doing 2dc-ch1-dc2 on row 3

    Hi there, in the written pattern it says round 3,4 shell is 3 double crochet chain 1 and 3 double crochet, is that not right?

    For rounds 3+4 you say and do shell stitch as 2dc ch1, 2 dc but the screen says 3dc ch1 3dc.......then r 5 +7 are 3dcs can you tell me which to do?
