    I have owned 39 motorcycles, had a 2014 Bolt and just got a 2015 Bolt all stock. I have owned everything from a Royal Enfield 500 single cylinder to an R1, Many in between bikes, Huge Crusiers and smaller sport bikes.
    When I buy a bike, I look for a completely different class than I have already ridden, that's why I have had so many motorcycles.
    Bottom line, when I ride a new bike, I am able to judge it for the type of bike it is, rather than judge it against a bike in a different class.
    In my opinion, Bolts are great when judged against similar bikes. They are not sport or off-road bikes, I am able to get them through the twistys fairly well as compared to my Sportster 48 and sportster 1200 custom. { better lean angle but not a sport bike!} Those bikes are more powerful and the 950 doesn"t compare, but it is quicker than the 883.
    My 2014 Bolt had Upgraded exhaust, Airbox and tuner. I live near I195 in New Jersey, and car speeds are 85 to 90MPH.
    If you really crack the throttle and stay on it, no problem passing, (but I ride everything fast, I hate to be passed by anything, and can be very aggressive on a motorcycle.
    I usually am able to pass anything, and the motor never blew up! If i does, what Can I do, that's what bikes are for! But never felt an issue at all with the Bolt.
    It's not a sport bike, but with center controls and (only about 550Lbs.) The same as my 1200 sportsters its a smaller bike and can be tossed around quite easily. I compare apples to apples, its the only way that's fair.
    I can glean some information from this review, but sometimes it's better to get an opinion from motorcycle publications that compares similar bikes, when making a decision to purchase.
    I love motorcycles, so whatever turns you on please do it, because I certainly do.
    Have fun, make more videos and good luck.

  • @maxfarmer2068
    @maxfarmer2068 Před 3 lety

    I've heard alot about the tires too but I run commander 2 tires and still suffered from the wobble. The true fix I found was the steering head bearings. Stock bearings are caged ball bearing which really should only handle radial forces. I had an accident and used the opportunity to change them to taperd roller bearing and the wobble went away. Notably it came back after a while when they broke in and a retourque helped with that. Will it come back some day... maybe but adjusting isn't that big of a job.

  • @alexandersteiner249
    @alexandersteiner249 Před 4 lety +3

    Great review! FYI the wobble comes from a defect or bad quality steering column bearings. Supposedly, if you get switch from the ball bearings to tapered roller bearings it will resolve the issue. (tires can resolve the issue or make it better, but on my bolt it is so bad different tires will not make a difference)

  • @John_Stur
    @John_Stur Před 6 lety +1

    That's a very informative video for an amazing bike. It's true about the tires, they suck and the sooner you change them, the better. Now for the exhaust I will honestly say that the Bassani you have are the *best* for this bike but I'd go with the V&H twin slash because you can still keep the passenger pegs (and it still sounds awesome). Also, is there any way you can change the front pegs position (e.g. raise them) to avoid scraping?

    Really like the bobber rear end . As well as the red tank . That’s really a nice looking seat . What kind is it ? I don’t know where you can ride legally past 85 mph in Texas . The toll road on 183 has a 75 mph speed limit . That’s fast enough for me .

    • @Madcatdave
      @Madcatdave Před 5 lety

      I know I am a little late on this comment but it Depends on what type of riding you want to do. If you plan on going for a super long tour with friends then I would suggest the Kawasaki for the bigger tank and you won't have to plan your gas stops as much. If its around town or maybe a couple of hours away the bolt is your bike. You really can't go wrong with either choice.

    • @1popscicle
      @1popscicle Před 5 lety +1

      Madcatdave you’re not too late at all. I sat on both bike since then, the vulcan is a tiny bit more comfortable but I like the classic V-twin of the Yamaha and I think the bolt have more afternarket possibilities if I what to change something eventually. Ultimately I think it will comes down to whatever I find the cheapest on the used market.

    • @Madcatdave
      @Madcatdave Před 5 lety

      @@1popscicle in terms of after market parts the bolts definitely is the winner. It's the direct competition to one of my bikes which is the sportster 883. You can make the bolt into anything you want which is really cool. What I suggest is looking at the used inventory at your local motorcycle dealers and also a website called Cycle Trader always has motorcycles for sale. Theirs also another online service called rumble on and my friends have used it and said it really good. I haven't used Rumble on personally but I believe its worth checking out. I wish you luck in your search.

    Dude, you might just need a steering head adjustment. Would likely clear that wobble up in a snap.

      He needs to change out the stock bearings to tapered ones

    I wouldn't call a 540lb cruiser heavy by any stretch. My first bike was over 620... there aren't many cruisers lighter than this one. Unless you count the 250's.

    I almost concidered that model as a second bike, until the 1100 Rebel came out. That is a better bike for the money for me. The Bolt is a nice little bike but the Rebel is better peformance.

      Swap a front pully from a Stryker on and it will get a better top end.

    If you buy a Bolt. do the following. Ivan's Tune, 31 tooth front sprocket, aftermarket air box, and V&H exhaust. 25% more power, smoother engine, and slightly lower RPM at highway speeds.

      what mods would be good for a ninja 650 ? I just brought 2018 model brand new

    The bolt at 85mph should be at 4500 RPM
    You have 7000 to work with so theoretically if you could. You'd need to go 130mph to redline the bike

    Nice Video man but Why would you spend so much on mods and keep crappy tyres on the bike the only thing that connects you to the ground, dont understand your thinking are cosmetics more important than safety?

    Wooble is not from tires but from shitty headstock bearing yamaha used in this bike.
