    I remember when a friend of ours who has a dog rescue brought a 12 week old puppy who had brain damage from birth and couldn't walk properly or hear over to our house to socialize with our Bernese Mountain Dog, Brodie. Brodie realized right away that there was something seriously wrong with the puppy and he just layed down on the grass and let the puppy climb all over him. She was born without a tail and has issues with her anal glands. Her malformed spine requires pain killers every day to live a good life. I paid alot of money to get her xrayed and was quite shocked to see her mangled vertebre. Yes she costs me alot in vets fees and insurance but she gives me lots of love in return. I have two Akbash Pyrenees mix. They are strong-willed, loyal, and loving dogs. That said, we had to move from a rural community with lots of acreage to a smaller place with only 5 acres. I would not recommend seeking out owning these dogs unless you have a large, fenced in property, with neighbors who can’t hear the barking. With neighbors close by, 5 acres is not enough. I have tried everything, and it has been a struggle. Nevertheless, I will never choose to separate from them.

      @@ithewho6603 the last reply definitely has some great points and it’s important to know this breed is a working dog who needs stimulation/work/exercise everyday. they are independent but when they choose to love its endless cuddles and kisses. training them is a task and a half since they have their own idea of how stuff should be run. if this is your first dog do not get an akbash, and if you have had ones before definitely try to have experience with working breeds because these dogs do not take a holiday off. that being said when they are well trained and worked daily they are absolute sweet hearts and lovers all the way.

      Just to clarify, while dachshunds have a higher risk than most other breeds of having a reaction to the leptospirosis vaccine, the risk is still very low, and the risk of a severe reaction like my little fellow had is even lower than that. Always talk to your vet, and determine the leptospirosis exposure risk for your area and lifestyle before making a decision about whether or not to get the vaccine, which is optional. Leptospirosis is a curable bacterial disease, if it’s caught before it does organ damage.

    I had a kitty who had gotten a head injury as a kitten. He had a forever twisted to the side head (like the old RCA mascot dog), which is a sign that a cat has neurological damage, and he got tired more quickly than other kitties. Other than that, he was fine, and was super sweet. Our Forever Kitten.
    We named him Sir Frank, after Sir Frank Williams, which seemed apt.

      The dogs disability is man made, if the dog was fed naturally on RAW, 60% animal + 40% vegetal, and nothing else given, then the disability would end under 2-3 weeks.
      Ofc after a couple diarrhea days, the time for the dog to cleanse its body out of bad food.

    From what I understand, Trooper's brain is closer in development to a puppy than another 3 year old dog his age. The trauma caused issues with the brain's maturity and development milestones. He's still been able to learn and be trained (as puppies can be trained) but has the skills and maturity closer to something like a well-trained 1 year old dog. Is this true?
    The owners are good at training dogs for certain, glad he found such a good home ❤️

    • @ChandlerFaye
      @ChandlerFaye Před 10 měsíci +14

      From a development standpoint what sort of milestones have been or would be trickier for him to reach given his brain damage? Would it be balance oriented, or self discipline related?

    • @riverstein7251
      @riverstein7251 Před 10 měsíci +34

      @@ChandlerFaye The main difference between an adult dog and a puppy is that puppies want to play all the time and have difficulty switching from playtime to work mode. Their patience and attention spans are thinner and they’re generally more impulsive, just like the comparison between a human adult and a human child. Which can make cementing training a lot harder. They’re also emotionally needy and cannot be left alone for more than an hour or two, simply because they as little babies aren’t able to reason that their people will come back, it’s not the end of the world if they’re left alone, and they will ultimately be fine because they can take care of themselves. This lack of internal independence means they’re more prone to being frightened by everyday things. Puppies can be desensitized and socialized to deal with this, but they can also regress a lot easier than an adult dog, and generally when a dog grows up they grow out of fearful behavior and learn to trust their owners in new situations if socialized and desensitized correctly.
      If I had to guess, training a forever puppy means needing an infinite amount of time and patience.

      I have started to put in some boundaries when it comes to true crime too. It definitely can be addictive but lot of it can be exploitative or unethical so I don't really want to support channels like that (important they are respectful towards victims and families and don't speculate all kinds of ridiculous theories about on going cases and specially accuse likely innocent people) or affect your mental health negatively if you're not in a good place.

    Thanks for highlighting this boy. We had a cat that was "challenged" when I was toung. One of his quirks was that when you were on the phone he'd see no one else in the room and be sure you were talking to him. At which point he'd join the conversation. His mother had been a purebred siamese and he had good lungs. Ad to this my fiance had Sprint and at that time about half our conversations would have an echo effect, some calls were a mess!! That was almost 40 years ago.
    Loved both those males so very much. The cat died at 19, and I lost my husband last year.
