Because it wasn't trully a FF game but more a game that takes place in the universe of Ivalice. Look at Vagrant Story, i'm pretty sure the public underrated this game if it was called FF IX

They are name "FF" just for money. Look at Bravely Default, it is more a FF game than FF XV

Ivalice is great. Hydaelyn from XIV is good contender though for me.

I wouldn't say IX is underrated though, if any FF title is underrated then that would have to be FF5 and FF12.
And one of my favorites, FF7, FF6, FF9 and FF12. I've never finished FF1-5 still.
A quick google search tells me the game is the ninth best-selling PS2 game ever, so it didn't go as unnoticed as you think it did.
FFXII has possibly the best English voice acting I've seen in a video game TO THIS DAY.
I used to think the same, but The Witcher 3 has passed it. You need to hear the English voice acting in that game. It's phenomenal!

Someone at Square-Enix deserves a raise because they're putting Ashe/Basch as the main characters with Vaan barely even speaking in this trailer. That's how it always was in the game but it was never represented well in the trailers since Vaan was plastered everywhere in the original's promotion. This lead to unwanted hate of Vaan and the confusion that started with him being the main character. This time they're writing that wrong.

The hate was because Vaan was promoted as the poster boy of FF12 where it is clear eventually that Balthier is the "leading man" of the story
Basch was the original protag but the higher ups were worried it wouldn't sell in Japan cause Basch was too rugged and manly so the team created Vaan

Thom x 7 was the best FF game ever (not my opinion) and the team behind it created FF15... therefore your theory could never change that a game is good or bad... it's not an argument that 16 could be good
Ronny Scheidt yeah because Nomura stepped down so the games potential dropped and was a huge mess. Tabata should never be a director again. why did he change the magic system into a grenade. and the gameplay is very repetitive. for every boss the reaction command is literally the same thing, Noctis climbs on the boss and blows it up with fire where as Nomura when he made KH2 had several different reaction commands for all the bosses even normal monsters. and the trailers where Nomura was director looked a lot better than how the game turned out, and Nomura designed the characters for the best FF games overall, FFVII, FFX and FFXII
7 is a good game. My and others opinion of that does not make it a fact. Just because a bunch of people like Justin Bieber does not make the music the best thing ever.
Likewise if 15 was made by the team behind 7 does not make it better than 12. I rest my case.
Thom x Nomura wasn't involved with 12. Yoshitaka amano designed the characters. One of the reasons the game has a different feel to it.

Man that Kingsglaive movie was badass! And then the game released with some of the crappiest writing Ive ever had to sit through! So depressing how poorly the story was implemented. All that amazing lore and backstory, clearly present in the movie, completely ignored in the game. I wanted to enjot it so bad, but once I realized I was 60% through the story and still didn't really understand the characters and motivations, I gave up.
FF12 will always be my favorite, and likely last, final fantasy.
Because now epic = fighting a giant Leviathan by smashing the circle button Dragonball style.

What a great game. This Final Fantasy is MILES away from the rest of the saga. The combat is extremely deep (I think this should have been the model for future FF games), the graphics are gorgeous (especially now in HD), the music is amazing (much better than Uematsu's OSTs), there are tons of things to do, and the areas have just the right size. The negative things are the development of the story (not the story itself, which is pretty nice and a welcome breath of fresh air for the saga), which suffers seriously in the last two quarters of the game, and the characters, who aren't the most charismatic of the genre (but they are likeable nonetheless).
Final Fantasy XII is an amazing game, and a seriously underrated Final Fantasy (by the fans, the professional reviews were fair and totally deserved). Final Fantasy IX still has a special place in my heart, but FFXII is the best FF game.

based on combat system and general gameplay, i agree. story-wise, it's one of the worst. the cast of characters is also one of the worst. well imo atleast.

I absolutely love the style of FF12, everything from the towns, the landscapes, the outfits and just the whole feel of it. They really did a great job with that game.
Final Fantasy XII has the best gameplay of all the franchise, I love it!
It's funny how much Final Fantasy 12 is starting to be more appreciated for what it delivered these days despite its flaws, when you have later games like Final Fantasy 13 and 15 end up with noticeably more hype and even more disappointments to compare with lol.
Better script (even though the story as a whole is hit or miss for people due to its slower paced political elements), an experimental yet arguably better gameplay, easily 100+ hours of total game content, the Judge Magistrates (so badass as an antagonist group, they're pretty much the shadow mascots of the Ivalice set of FF games, and whom Dark Souls got some of its armor concepts influenced from), is actually a fully-fledged story epic in one game, and even with subpar audio equipment, 12 delivered some incredible English voice acting (filled with a full-blown layering of vernacular dialects) for an jrpg even compared up to today's lineup.
Dark Souls' armor designs were based more on dark fantasies like Berserk, though.
I completely agree. To be honest, it is not in my top 5 FF games, but for some reason, regardless of all of its flaws, I really want to play it again out of nostalgia alone lol
For sure LUM26 Akua. Dark Souls definitely took inspiration from dark fantasies in the past as well as some very peculiar historical pieces of equipment like that Horned Helmet of Henry VIII. I guess the way I phrased it made it seem like the main theme for the souls armors were based on the Archadian Judges, I apologize. I do recall that years ago it was mentioned somewhere that various Judge armor sets were taken into consideration when planning out armor concepts for the game.
The pacing is slow at the start, but it quickly speeds up

as a Nintendo fan im pretty cool with what the switch has to offer especially when it comes to jrpgs. settling for Xenoblade 2 and fire emblem isn't exactly the worst thing in the world

The 2K HD its enough in this game, because the original had only 240p that its horibble and not if you have 2K or 4K. :-)

Give up on Vita already. It's a great system that for some reason didn't sell well at all. No point porting games to it with such a small install base, especially now when it's forgotten by even a lot of the people who have it.

Still devs and pubs making new games for it - mind you not from big conglomerates - the Vita might be way niche than it should have been, but it still has some pretty healthy support.
Tides are turning because of the release of the Nintendo Switch. Sony and the third party companies can capitalize on this by giving a second wind to the Vita or even it's successor (Vita 3000?)

They brought FF X and X-2 to PC so I don't know why they wouldn't. They'd be stupid not too. The only problem is it took a year for those to come to PC so I'm guessing it'll take a year for XII too.

90% of the FFXII team worked on FFXIV A Realm Reborn, so you should give it a shot! There are a ton of similarities and it definitely caters to players who just want to play through the story on their own if you're not used to the MMO mindset.
Sid Zaveri the Team behind FF 7, FF Type Zero and Kingdom Hearts created FF 15 as well.. give it a shot it have so much similarities to every FF game and the story is one of the strongest ones i've ever seen
(even if the story is 30 hours at all but that's many in different to 7s where the gameplay stretched 75% of the game) and you can compare FF 15 good with FF 7 and 8
Ronny Scheidt Final fantasy XV was too casual and half assed in every area. The story is especially short and weak I actually started playing 13 again cause it was so easy. Not to mention the fetch quest are terrible.

zack19192 Actually in this case, yes. FFXII is very much worth $50 still imo, given the amount of content: the MMO style exploration, the battle system, the amount of collectable items, the story, the vast amount of optional content, and this is only talking about the base game, not the international release. There is emulation if the price tag seems too steep, though the international version requires a bit of know-how to get the english patch to work. A lot of other games nowadays aren't even worth $60 (CoD because it manages to be the same thing every year, Sports games because they do nothing to change the formula whatsoever, and a few other genres that I can't think of right now).
Games released 10+ years ago were worth this price ($50 in the US) because they had quality to them 90% of the time, now it's become more like what's worth $60 (the price of games at release in the US) as long as the majority of content isn't locked behind an additional paywall. That all being said, I will gladly fork over my cash for this game again.
Ok buddy whatever you say, FFX/X-2 Remaster which included two games was $40. Also the new Crash trilogy which is actually almost a remake is also $40, but yeah this is defintely worth $50.
zack19192 FFx -x2 was 49.99 on release. Lets be honest X2 was a joke. I got it for X and it was fine with it. You can get the wipeout collection also for less, but in my book not the same thing.

LordColdGames I think the voice acting is amazing. The old English makes it feel fully realized and the inclusion of accents is cool too. Like Fran is Icelandic for some weird reason and I love it.

A underrated masterpiece
For me, this video is very emotional. I played this game so much in 2006-7 that I know every part of this game like the hood I was raised!! Best RPG of all time for me, and I think this will never change, because this game have just a feeling of joy and happiness that no other game have it, its just unexplainable!
