  • Lightwind days are the worst. Especially when every body else is having fun but the wind is just not enough for you. This video is a detailed explanation for intermediate and advanced sailors to get planing in the lightest breeze. Happy learning!

    Pumping onto the plane is a truly neglected topic in windsurfing. Thanks for bringing it up. Nice to see how you "get low, to go" to make yourselve easy on the board. Also nicely visible starting at 2:51 you drive the board downwinds at around 20-30 degrees angle. Keep up the excellent tutorials.

    Nice video once again, just what I need. The part where you mention you start with a bent front elbow and extended back, is a bit confusing. As a freestyler i'd recommend putting both hands behind the harness lines (as far back as you can). That gives you much more power to pump, since you can use both arms to pump instead of just using the back arm. And of course go downwind.

    • @florianbauch3581
      @florianbauch3581 Před 3 lety

      Most people try to get planning on a beam reach (90 geg to wind direction) which requires a ton of wind. The Pros like Nico go 15-30 deg. downwind and oncle planning go back up again.

      Nico Prien Lots of sail pumping was always necessary in San Diego, even on the biggest gear. I haven’t windsurfed in almost 18 years but would love to get back into it - I bet these new boards are noticeably more efficient in marginal winds. I have no interest in foiling, though! It’s impressive how early they plane......but I would miss the water contact way too much.
