Trying New RIDES at THORPE PARK resort

- We try new rides at Thorpe Park and some old favourites. We see if QUANTUM, Mr Monkey's Banana ride and STORM SURGE are Plus Size accessible.
QUANTUM is a Magic carpet ride like no other. Thrilling riders at Thorpe park since 2003, located in the Lost City area of the park near to Zodiac, Vortex and Rush. Manufactured by Fabbri, It's far from a sedate flat ride, you associate with Aladdin Magic Carpet rides you might get at Disneyland. This is a Thrill Ride, which rises and falls exerting both positive and negative G-forces on riders. You will be being pressed firmly in your seat one moment and getting air time as you float out of your seat in the next. Quantum has a Lap bar restraint that is pulled towards you from the base of the ride. Being my first ride on Quantum I pulled the bar down waiting for a click in place which never came. Being electronic rather than a ratchet system, the bar locks in place as it meets your belly, although Thorpe Park recommend a waist / torso max size of 51 inches, if you can squish your fat, like I did, I'm sure you can fit on this ride if your a plus size 54 inch waist.
Zodiac is a Huss Enterprise flat ride located in the Lost City area of the theme park. We've been on this ride several times, it's one of our favourite plus size friendly rides at Thorpe Park. Mr Monkey's Banana ride is a swingboat / Pirate ship flat ride made by Metallbau Emmeln. The ride opened at the Thorpe Park resort in 1994 as is a Plus Size friendly ride similar to the Blue Barnacle at Chessington World of Adventures, although smaller in size and height it's a fun little family ride located opposite Derren Browns Ghost Train. This was the first time we rode Mr Monkey's Banana ride, being a small ride we weren't sure of the lap bar restraints would also be smaller than the larger pirate ship rides such as the Jolly Rocker at Legoland, but Louise and I both managed to get on this ride without a problem being 51 inch and 54 inch waist respectively.
Derren Brown's Ghost Train: Rise of the Demon is a reimagined Ghost Train dark ride with a walkthrough experience. There's nothing like this ride in the UK. Derren Brown's Ghost train opened in 2016 The ride is a combination of Virtual Reality and live-action experience, with no restraints so is very plus size friendly. If you can fit on a tube train, you will fit on this ride. On this visit to Thorpe Park, Louise checks out the access for people with mobility needs and went through the ride (up to the train) using her mobility scooter.
Another ride first is Storm Surge. A spinning rapids raft ride that takes you up a 64ft high conveyor belt lift hill. Originally a ride at Cypress Gardens (Legoland Florida) the water ride opened at Thorpe park in 2011. Not wanting to get soaked and worried about access into the ride vehicle we've not ridden storm surge until now. Having mobility issues we were worried about getting into and them out of the inflatable raft, but we shouldn't have been. There is a small raised rubber rind inside the ride vehicle that you sit on, so you don't actually sit on the floor making it easier to get in and out.

Thanks for watching our videos, we always have a great time at Thorpe Park and already looking forward too next season. It's really nice to get some ride hosts that are helpful and considerate, Lou and I remember you from this visit. We were planning on riding Zodiac in the dark during Fright Nights, but the whether was really bad and we were soaked after walking around the park filming all day. We've always found everyone at Thorpe Park to be very friendly and helpful. We love riding Zodiac, it's usually our first ride of the day.
