    Minor correction on "On-hit magic damage"
    Blow of corruption and ignite do benefit from headshots but the burn effect of ignite DOES NOT and resultingly poison weapon DOES NOT as well. For some reason this also is currently applying to smite though I think that is a bug. So smite is doing just flat damage and ignoring any locational damage effects which is making them especially strong with thrown utility (torches, knives, francs) since apparently this means you don't have to necessarily aim at the head and the smite damage won't suffer from any kind of distance penalty. Seriously, you can lob smited torches from back court and they will be mega painful

    I requested this video a couple weeks ago and you delivered exactly what I wanted. The attribute bonus ratio was definitely one of the more confusing and mysterious parts about magic damage. I think Iron Mace adjusted Magic Missiles ABR from 0.5 to 1.0 at the beginning of the season which really boosted the spell. You make the best DrknDrkr content out here.

    if you were playing wizard or warlock and are looking to do the most damage possible, in order from best to worst what are the stats you should prioritize that you mentioned in this video.

    • @ryan6daysaweek
      @ryan6daysaweek  Před 4 měsíci +18

      This depends on spells but let's just base things off of Magic Missiles since they have the absolute highest damage per cast for the Wizard. In this case your build priority is in this order:
      +Additional Magic Damage (since MM can headshot)
      +True Magic Damage (Flat increases to magic damage here out perform percentile increases 1:1)
      +Magic Bonus/+Magic Damage Bonus (Both are tied here)
      +Will (technically it is as effective as Magic Bonus but it has a lower max roll)
      And then everything else. Though it is not technically a gear stat, you would have to use the Magic Staff as well since it has the highest "Magical Damage" roll which is applied to your spell's base magic damage. However, I usually prefer the spell book even though it is lower damage since it has a better casting animation.
      For curse-build Warlocks just swap +Additional and +True. Again, this is just for pure damage. Spell casting speed/knowledge, movespeed, and health/vigor are arguably just as important include on your gear!

    Great video explaining all the parts that go into calculating all the different kinds of magic damage. I mostly play Warlock and have tried to do some testing to figure out spell damage, as well as looking at the wiki. Im especially curious about the damage calculation for dark magic spells (specifically Ray of Darkness (RoD)), which can be amplified by two separate perks for Warlock (Dark Enhancement=10% and Soul Collector=up to 60%). Although I have seen/heard in some cases that Soul Collector only applies to the first tick of RoD, the limited testing ive done seems to show that it applies to the whole duration of RoD. Not only this, but from what I can tell it is applied as a multiplicative bonus rather than an additive bonus. So for the full calculation for RoD would likely be:
    (BMD x (1 + MPBxABR) x (1 + DE) x (1 + SC) + aMDxABR) x LD X (1 - MR) + tMDxABR
    DE = Dark Enhancement
    SC = Soul Collector
    Both these bonuses may also be modified by the attribute bonus ratio.
    Testing this properly was hard though (I just did some quick tests on goblins and skeletons, but it would be better to try with a teammate) and I think the damage output by RoD may be bugged and doing more damage than intended (this also makes it unclear whether the bonuses are really multiplicative rather than additive). With all this I mainly want to point out there are even more details to the magic damage calculation that may be worth investigating, with Wizard also having unique bonuses (Arcane Feedback, Arcane Mastery, Fire Mastery) which could be either additive or multiplicative. I also hope we can gain more answers on the weirdness that is happening with Ray of Darkness, and its interaction with Soul Collector.

    • @KalliousTallon
      @KalliousTallon Před 4 měsíci +1

      All perks that says "+x% damage" are just adding to your physical or magical power bonus, so in the case of soul collector/enhancement they're just adding +60% (on full souls)/+10% magic power bonus to dark magic damage, not a separate multiplier. And since it's adding to your magic power bonus, it is then subject to ABR scaling.
      The RoD bug was also fixed awhile ago, and your souls are removed when you finish casting Ray, rather than when you start, so it applies to the entire duration of the spell. This also means if you get melee'd during the cast of your RoD, your reflect will still benefit from the souls.

    • @ryan6daysaweek
      @ryan6daysaweek  Před 4 měsíci

      my bad icejoe, in short this list applies for the majority of Wizard spells in terms of just damage:
      +Additional Damage (this is above True with the assumption that your spell can headshot)
      +True Damage
      +Magic Power/+Magic Damage Bonus
      +Will
      The only gear rolls that are mutually exclusive at this time are +Add and +True Damage so honestly a great piece of equipment will have one of those flat damage modifiers and a combination of the others. The only reason why +Magic Damage Bonus is place above +Will is due to the fact that is can roll higher on gear as a RANDOM modifier (+Will maxes at 2 but magic power maxes at 5). Again this is purely for just damage. I honestly prioritize just flat damage and knowledge when looking for gear. You can get casting speed quite high now through with the new gear system which I find very beneficial. Hope this helps!

    My takeaway on this is that mixing aMD/tMD with MP/MPB/Will isn't especially good, and you're probably better off pushing one or the other to the extreme, and building your spell list around it. Like a heavy aMD/tMD build would have Missiles, Ignite, Ice Bolt, Zap, whereas a heavy MP/MPB/Will build would want Fireball, Explosion, Chain Lightning, Lightning Strike.

    @MegaMooer Před 4 měsíci +1

    In the case of ignite-
    Since the crystal sword has no magical damage bonus applied to spells cast, can you boost ignite damage by casting it with a magic staff prior to swapping to CSword? Or is it irrelevant since the CSword is out when swinging and, therefore, the CSword stats are applied to each ignite swing?

    • @ryan6daysaweek

    • @ryan6daysaweek
      @ryan6daysaweek  Před 3 měsíci +1

      hey jimz, Ray of Darkness is is a Dark Magic channeled hit scan spell that calculates magic damage with 100% scaling per 1 second but applies damage every 0.1 second. It is definitely a weird one. It is the only channeling spell in the game that seems to have non-elastic damage ticking. So even if the total channeling time is decreased by adding "Spell Casting Speed" the damage will always be calculated per 1 second and applied at 0.1 s. In the case of Warlock's Demon Armor, the reduction in "Spell Casting Speed" will actually increase the total damage output since longer channeling time = more damage ticks in this case.
      As for spellbook vs magic staff vs crystal ball: all will have the same channeling tick rate, the only thing that will change is the base damage of the spell as the 3 different catalysts have different Magical Damage

    Looks great. One question though, the calculation never seems too realistic when I calculate locust swarm. The wiki claims it is NOT a DoT, so it would not need the extra calculations to reduce the damage. Additionally, I recall them changing the ABR to 1 some time ago from .5 scaling. The predicted damage always seems considerably more than the actual damage seeing as 12-20 damage per .1s would probably kill most people in mere moments. Is there something I am missing here?
    Assuming purple staff with mid level magic resistance and average magic power bonus if you stack some will and a bit of damage:
    Base Magical Damage 12
    Magic Power Bonus 0.3
    Additional Magic Damage 5
    True Damage 2

You need to review the great information you shared in reference to a hierarchy of value on the stats on gear and therefor what you are looking for as more vaulable gear. You could even discuss builds and current market average for certain rollls. I really wanna know how crazy you can get with Poisoned Weapon numbers and what should you prioritize on gear in that case. (From what I found you NEED to get to 15 Will first and then build as much add. or true mag.dmg.)

    On the magic power bonus its + 17% at one point but you wrote it as ×0.17 which would be - 83 % it should be ×1.17
    Just a heads up because i got really confused by it at first

      hello hugo! the base 1 to account for the positive percent change already is taken into account in the equation - so that is why I left the percent as a direct decimal conversion

    The fact that add magic damage exists right now is a bit...well weird to say the least, add has so very little value due to whats probably 4-5 spells can actually headshot, which makes true just vastly superior
