I personally hope that he´s going to be one of the several heroes we´re going to get when OW2 launches. With Sojourn we have a hero confirmed who is associated with Overwatch so Mauga could be the hero who is associated with Talon. I mean it is possible that we get several heroes where each one is form another group of people in the history of Overwatch (Overwatch, Talon, Junkers, Vishkar, etc.)
Just make Bastion walk in turret form, give him a second gun and you´ve got cyborg Mauga

I think Mauga's redeeming quality is his personality.. Yeah he's ruthless and lacks empathy but he's still a fun guy who enjoys being friendly and energetic. Roadhog is evil. But he's kinda cute? like he's just a big guy who seems loveable in game. I think Mauga can just be like that, he gains likeability without being likeable because of his charisma

He would definitely keep his shield and it’s clearly a one armed shield so I assume it’s a personal shield only like brigitte, which would fit his personality still and you know, protect him from explosions
And having a smaller shield while using one mini gun is nothing like Sigma at all
I also don’t see why they would give him Reinhardts charge even if the heavy assault has it, that would be too similar and wasted potential
He could also have like a command grab type attack where he picks someone up by the neck and crushes it, obviously not literally but it would just do massive damage if he’s up close to a single person
But it would probably leave him and the enemy stunned in place as he does so, maybe getting attacked interrupts it. (Basically ganondorfs side B from smash) it would fit him perfectly and be super unique and make him really dangerous to get up close to
But I think the ability would simply not work on tanks at all outside of Dva with no mech and maybe Zarya, which is fair

I know this video was made 2 years ago but I just want to point out that with the quote of Mauga saying, "There are no good people." could be telling us more about how he was raised and what his life was like up till this point. So, he could technically be a dark backstory type character.

One thing i'd like to add: it seems blizzard is trying their best to turn the Overwatch story from "in the past" to "in the present" with Overwatch 2. If that's the case, it's likely that the explosion that left Mauga's whereabouts shrouded in mystery is likely the part of his story that will become relatable. My point is that he may have undergone some changes since that experience, and thus becoming a more relatable character in the process. Who knows what OW2 has in store?

A part of me is still hoping for a surprise Mauga release before OW2. I mean, there are probably more Mauga mains than Bastion mains already so why not release him early?

It's possible that Mauga can be a more aggressive version of roadhog where instead of walking up to something and bring them closer to him with a hook, he gets closer to them more personally like a bolt attack that rushes towards an enemy with a smack with their shield that can give knock back instead of a stun
Impressive prediction
I think the parallels Mauga has with Reinhardt could be an indicator on what kind of hero he would be.
Both are big mountains of men with a great sense of loyalty or idealism, and both potentially had to do a 180 on their previous outlook on life.
Reinhardt used to be far too happy go lucky and would only hunt for glory, as we saw in his animated short. Since then he's now keenly aware of his duty and role, while his personality is otherwise intact.
Mauga was very similar, except you would just replace glory with fun. Firefights are nothing but an opportunity for gloryseeking/adrenaline junking where his real job and main responsibility, protecting the team/completing their mission falls to the wayside. Mauga clearly didn't a crap about his instructions when he let Baptiste escape the first time.
It's very possibly that Mauga has grown since last we saw him, but that wouldn't mean he wouldn't be the same Mauga we already know for the most part.
In relation to his kit, I can see him mirroring or at least complimenting Reinhardt. Rein has a big hammer for glorious and honorable 1v1s, a shield for his team, a reckless charge move, and... firestrike is for long range poke. If we remember that Rein is honorable, dutiful, but still a little reckless and these are his abilities, then for Mauga we have: barbaric, cunning, overbearing, and possibly loyal (in regards to things like brotherhood, etc). I can see Mauga having no teamwide defensive abilities like Roadhog and Hammond, some kind of trap or intelligence gathering device/ability because he isn't just a big dumb brute, and he could have some kind of single target defending/rescue/support ability to cover loyalty. Something like the ol "Roadhog hook but for allies", or maybe a deployable shield like Zarya bubble, but instead of absorbing damage it instead acts as a deflect?
I won't guess at his ultimate because I believe ultimates are primarily designed based on game balance as opposed to fitting lore/etc. Some examples like BOB and Dragonblade/strike pretty much wrote themselves in, but the rest are more designed to do a job than actually make sense.
I think making him a half omnic would be a great idea. Giving him the "Genji treatment" would also give them the opportunity to give Mauga some redeeming qualities and make him even more likeable, and not so much of a sociopath. A cool idea for his ultimate would be overrididing his programming temporarily and getting that armour busting super strength... like Winston's Primal Rage. A reconstructed half omnic Mauga makes for a variety of skin designs too: regular omnic Mauga, Talon Mauga, Parrot shirt Mauga, etc.
Is it possible that mauga survived The explosion, but hè needed robot things like genji and he is te one doomfist is talking at in The and of stomrising.
Very excited for the possibility of him as a hero! I feel like he would be a great addition in personality to the roster.

I think the shield is more of a personal shield. It would likely go in his two arms and have a conected health pool. It would act like Rinhearts shield but as a sort of passive. It might have a curve at the edges and be about 1/3 of his size, covering his midsection, where his arms will likely be. These are just my thoughts.
Why do I have the feeling that the Mauga we know, is one of the Heavy Assault's in Retribution

God I absolutely cannot wait until he becomes a hero. Just the thought of what his voice lines and hero interactions could be excite me.

Wait then the explosion must have made mauga fall into the water which is why we didn't see him, and he probably drowned and he somehow got out. But from what i can tell he is still alive and looking for baptiste. The reason i know this is because of the interaction between baptise and sombra

This interaction is all we need to know that mauga is still alive and probably more dangerous that ever considering baptiste almost blew him up on pier. Theres also no telling weather or not mauga has gained some "unnatural" abilities from this explosion that has allowed him to live. I truly love this character and he is going on my list of favorite characters.
Give him a “heavy” passive ability, lightly resists concussive crowd control and does splash damage when dropping down from higher levels.

Maybe Blizzard can make him more likeable by giving him a tragic backstory about his younger brother. Baptiste reminds him of his younger brother and that's why he feels so close to him. They can both be streetrats so that explains why he always thinks about himself, and he doesn't believe in good people because he keeps seeing liars, thieves and murderers on the streets.
Wait what if the Omnic from the last cutscene in storm rising is mauga after the explosion from the fusion reactor
I had an idea for a tank that spawns with a front facing shield that doesn't regenerate; a means to push into danger without spending resources before the real fight. This could be Mauga, a brazen and immodest hero. Once the shield is broken you could have a tiny permabuff like damage, almost like the facade drops and he goes ape shizz crazy and messes you up? x
Mauga is 100% gonna be a bruiser type tank. Close range, some sort of movement ability, heavy damage. Definitely a barrier as well.
what if the coolant tank on his back is a vulnerability spot, but also for his team's healers? so to offset his lack of barriers/self-sustain, the tanks on his back have healing amplification, so he can put himself in front of healers and last longer than what is conventional? I'd love to see that concept being played with, of a hero that takes more damage from the back, and has to play around that in some way
What about the captain that Tracer and the team were talking to during the storm rising, she doesnt have that much information that I know about but when Winston picks up the picture during the animated short introducing overwatch 2 she is shown in the picture with many of the other heroes.
Sojourn? She is one of the top candidates for a new hero. She's an Overwatch captain (or at least in charge of intel), has close ties to Soldier, Reyes, Winston, Tracer. She HAS to be in the game, if only in an earlier timeline if she hasn't retired to simply be a captain role. But the recall would never every capable soldier no matter their age so I reckon she would return ready to fight for the good guys

The ONLY way I can see the "big plans for Mauga" not meaning he's a playable character, is if they 1) plan to just have him in Story Missions for OW2 with Baptiste (but that wouldn't be all that big of a plan IMO if he isn't playable in it), or 2) plan to feature him in a cinematic/animated short. But yeah nah there's next to no chance he doesn't end up playable. Also, I think the Energy Shield aspect they describe in the story was possibly a biproduct of them trying to make Mauga out of what became Sigma. If you notice, Jeff said they were working on this around the time they were writing that story, so it makes sense that they told the writer to include some kind of barrier because that's what they were planning originally on doing for him.
Also I hope they they release at least 2 healers and 2 tanks with the base game judging from the silhouette they showed and probably just 1 damage being sojourn
Hey i think i have a great idea for mauga to be a tank talon. So first primary weapon: Spray fires two minigun arms. His melee knock enemies backwards. Abilities: 1 Charge were he can pinned same as reinhardt but instead it deals 450 damage and cannot be knockback only way to cancel it by stun or zarya bubble. 2 cancel mauga can cancel his charge any time he wants. 3 boost mauga can give his teammate boost that let them get 20&+ health also damage and cool down. for it 20secs and charge 5secs but for the charge after he finish it he can’t move for 2secs and the cancel charge can only be used if mauga in charge it is 3secs he gets 1800 ho his passiv cannot be knockback or pull but can be stun sleep freeze his ultimate all alies around him get 20& health and damage mauga himself gets 30& health and damage. I think making this hero might be op but if you are trolling you might give the enemie team a ultimate.

His ult could be booping players back and up in the air like a combination of Sigma's and Lucio boop. I definitely think abilities like charge and ricochet shield could be a good idea but maybe the shield is in the form of Hammond shield, like in a way maugas armor lights blue and bullets get ricoched from it

I think that Mauga is the character we see at the end of Storm Rising. Their physique match and the wires in the omnic character's head could definitely be a reference to Mauga's long hair. If they are indeed taking the cybernetic side with Mauga's story, it would be weird for there to be two robotic tanks with similar color schemes or whatever, so they are probably the same character if that is the case. Also something I realized in the past archives event when replaying Storm Rising is that Doomfist says to the robotic character that he fights for his people and a noble cause. I see this being one of two things. Either he is Mauga and is taking revenge for something that happened to his home country in a mission or something, or he is not Mauga (or maybe he is, doesn't matter) and fights for omnic rights and freedom in more aggressive ways we have seen before, which leads to the fact that maybe he is the one that blew up the facility Echo and Liao were in, in means of setting Echo free, as he believes she should be in no ones control, or that she could be a powerful asset to fight for his cause. It could even be a combination of both, that being Mauga fighting for cybernetic people?? and maybe believing Echo is human inside, due to her adaptive system, you know, fake rumors or something, then he realizes she is just a robot and leaves, but that is just way to weird to happen in my eyes.
I think they are not connected. They just don't seem similar to me. The omnic at the end of Storm Rising I would say is the leader of Null Sector or another Omnic terrorist cell. Mauga is more of a foot soldier, a warrior, in Talon. There is a connection there, being that Doomfist is connected with Talon and Doomfist seemingly makes a deal with this omnic character in the end

I did think that the omnic guy had more of a leadership aspect, similar to Maximillien and that he does not seem like a brute killing machine, which is the way Mauga is portrayed. However, I do still believe having both of these characters eventually added could be messy, as they both have that cool red and black Talon color scheme, although it really isn't really that big of a deal. Anyway, I am really excited about the simultaneous hero releases happening in OW2, and I do hope some characters like Max and this guy show up.

You say he would be a cyborg. I’m probably the 20th person that points this out but could he be the omnic at the end of the storm rising cutscene, my second guess of the omnic is the boss of talon at the start of the blackwatch mission
The hero you guys thought of is talon mauga but you cant just incorporate the big talon suit in every skin, also there is no hero that is a standard talon hero so not really likely
I wanna see a hero like the asassins in the archives event. A dps that is focused on melee and speed. I want this cause I like playing melee characters like Brigg and rein. We still have yet to get a melee dps tho

'Mountain' of a man, mini-gun weilding tank with some possible berserker abilities and is designed to work in tandem with former comrade Baptiste as a damage dealing wall of anger you'd want to stay as far away from as possible. Get Kevin Michael Richardson to voice this absolute unit's big personality and we could have ourselves possibly the most fun-to-play tank in a long time.
With Sigma's kit being based more on defense and shielding, a great big shredder with a big personality akin to the TF2 Heavy seems like a missing link in this roster I wish was already available. Make him vulnerable to long range heroes and flanking from behind while his team tries to set him up and pocket him to do his thing. Either way he can't come soon enough.

With that sort of explanation of Mauga’s story, I’d say it’s totally possible that he could have probably fused with the thing that blew him up.
I’m leaning in to them giving him a energy barrier that can cause projectiles to bounce off. Along with the dual heavy machine gun weapons. Now I predict him having a lot of health & his ultimate being a rage mode. Similar to Nano.
