Roof at Risk: St Bartholomew's Church, Lower Basildon

At the 800-year-old church of St Bartholomew's in Lower Basildon, Berkshire, the nave roof has come to the end of its lifespan. The batons have rotted, and the clay roof tiles started to slip opening the building fabric to wind and water. The condition of the roof left the traditional church interior vulnerable to significant damage and decay. Sadly, this meant that the church was no longer of service to its community.
