    Something better for the paddle tails that will give it more action than just splitting down the center. Take a bic pen. Remove the caps both ends. Remove the actual pen with ink part. Now you’re left with just the plastic tube that you hold and write with. This will be your plastic hole puncher. Lay the paddle tail flat on the table and punch out three separate holes in the center on the paddle tail. Then take your scissors and cut the paddle tail down the center. You will see the big difference in action. Patrick👍🏻

      Thanks for watching Patrick! Appreciate it, great idea also. Might give the bait some bubble action. You could probably use a hole punch to make the holes also. 🙂👍

    You can also insert the hook through the bait, as you did, but insert the point of the hook into one of the upper arms as a weed guard.

    Good tips. Those tails are actually made like that so you can rig it either side up and get a different action when you drag it over brush, with the tails up like you show when you drag it over a limb the tails will kinda fall between the flappy things and splay them out but rigged the other way they kinda close together when dragged over a stick or limb. You can actually see how it works by dragging one over your finger each way. I rig it the way you do because I want them to open up but the other way could be better in colder water, but I dont fish a brushhog in cold water much if ever.

      Thanks for watching Fish Foto! Really appreciate it! Thanks for the info about the brush hog. It is a great bait for sure, and very versatile. I don't fish it much in cold water also, a little too much action I think. Thanks again! Stay safe out there! 👍🙂

    What's your hook-up/landing percentage with the round bend and hook buried in the bait? I've seen a bunch of videos that show the hook point does NOT come out of the bait (become exposed) and thus in to the fish's mouth as easy as it does with an EWG going through the bait with the hook-point barely in the bait, aka skin-hooked or "tex-posed"? Nobody lands every fish with any bait or lure so....

    • @Ranger374_
      @Ranger374_  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for watching Joe! Truly appreciate it. I generally don't have a problem with hook up on the bait. I think they tend to get through the cover easier than the EWG hook. I haven't lost many for sure, just make sure that your hooks are sharp and that you set it hard enough. Thanks for the question, it's a good one. But of course we all lose a few lol. 👍🙂

    Do you always peg your weight or just when your flipping or punching. I never peg mine and I'm wondering if I should be pegging it.

    • @Ranger374_
      @Ranger374_  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for watching! Truly appreciate it. I will definitely peg my baits in thick cover. It just comes through it easier I believe. If the cover isn't too thick, I believe not pegging the bait gives it a bit more action. 👍🙂

      @@Ranger374_ that's what I have always thought too. When i did do it when I was in heavy cover back in the day I would use a toothpick but I will invest in some bobber stops cause I have a real thick cover spot I want to fish. But the only time I ever pegged was in thick cover. I see allot of people always peg their weight and so i started wondering if it has another advantage other then in cover. Thanks for the reply back

    • @Ranger374_
      @Ranger374_  Před 3 lety +1

      No problem, definitely get some bobber stops. They won't kink your line. 👍

  • @LeskoBrandon2x
    @LeskoBrandon2x Před 4 lety +1

    Do you peg the weight to the hook or does it slide freely on the line? If so how do you peg it?

    • @Ranger374_
      @Ranger374_  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes I generally peg my plastics. Either with a bobber stop, or old school using a toothpick behind the weight. Being careful not to kink the line. Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it! 🙂
