  • Town of Oyster Bay Department of Sanitation runs about 100 rear load garbage trucks, about half older Leaches and half New Ways. This video features one of their ~10 year old leaches that took over one of their routes after the new way (seen from 0:40 until 1:40) was full. This video follows the Leach packing heavy trash from a scenic neighborhood on the water. The average setout around here is very heavy, about 2-3 homeowner provided cans, plus lots of bulk.
Something special about this truck is that it doesn't rev automatically like the newer trucks; the driver has to hit the gas in the cab. The really old trucks had to be put in neutral before you could rev, so they couldn't pack while driving, but this truck is new enough that it can.
Although this crew is a bit more laid-back than most TOB crews, they still moved at a pretty fast pace, especially for how heavy the trash was.
Thanks to the crew for letting me film, and follow them for as long as I did!
I hope you enjoy watching this video as much as I did making it!
