Ask Ed if a young (black) man (35) who wanted to design cars since age 5, what should he do? Which school should I go to?

I have a first class Hons Degree in Automotive Design and graduate at the top of my class but still I’m finding it extremely difficult to get into the Industry, so far only managed to get a bit of freelance design work (for a marine development company surprisingly). This is a very competitive environment and anyone looking into this as a career needs to stay motivated. It’s up to you to push yourself and maintain that self-belief. Don’t give up on your dreams, strive to succeed.

Ryan Sinton OneVanguard after one year of this comment, you mind if I ask you if you have been part of any project because I also want to become a car designer.

anonymous 420 Hi, I have only been involved in car design projects at university like what we call a "live brief" out side of university I was doing a bit of freelance work for a maritime development company; creating CAD visuals for them. Definitely a difficult industry to get into. I would say also to have an open mind and have a broad look at the rest of the industry; not to limited yourself specifically to the car aspect. Theses many areas these skills can be applied too and one you have a foothold you'll be in a better position to seek spasticity to the car industry if that is were your passions lay. There are a number of roots you can go down but getting into a design school on car/ transport design, industrial design course. Could also go down the product design road but I'd say a spastic car design course is the best way. There the focus will be more suited. Getting a degree in this area is essential really and then you could also progress onto a masters or even PHD. The most transferable skill the industry would generally look for would be your sketching and creative ability. Design software can be taught relatively easily and each company tends to have its own preferences to what they prefer to use so don't worry too much about that. Unless you're going down the design engineering side of things which is still car design but with the focus being in the mechanics and final manufacturing of the vehicle.

Andre Dixon If you like you can look at my latest design work from my Masters course I just graduated from. My first degree was transport design but now I’ve graduated from the Royal College of Art which is the top art and design school in the world so I’d recommend that but it’s only for Masters course. Not sure what level you are at right now?

The sad moment when a 16 year old kid (me) gets on line because he is interested in this job amd wants to be a automotive concept designer and all you can see in the comments is people arguing about races or skin colors who gives a damn if your black white purple or green color doesnt affect anything would art be art if it could only be black or white? Would the worl be anything if there wasnt any color? You all need to grow up and realize yes slavery happened and it was awful but whats happened happened and the whites need to realize our mistakes and be grown up about it... Stop fighting over this stupid crap. Its pointless.... And honestly makes both races look low and childish doesnt matter black or white we are all the same and we are all equal
