  • The engine on this car has 483,000 southern California freeway miles and it had been leaking oil. I made a video of the steps I went through to replace the oil seal.
    While not too difficult to do, it was very greasy and messy, and you will need to contort to gain access to one of the fastener bolts on the power steering pump.
    Also, you REALLY should buy a strong impact wrench! I purchased a 1,050 ft/lb electric impact wrench at Harbor Freight after spending many hours of attempting it without one. It took just seconds with the wrench. I could not have done the project without it... as you will see!
    This video would have been very helpful to me had I had it to view in advance. I hope this helps you greatly. With the right tools below, you should be able to do this in a day. But please get an Impact wrench! That was my only big mistake.
    The tools I used were:
    3/8” drive ratchet wrench
    Long extensions x3
    Universal joint
    1/2” ratchet wrench
    Short extension
    10 mm socket wrench
    10mm ratchet combo wrench
    12 mm socket wrench
    12 mm ratchet combo wrench
    12 mm combination wrench
    14 mm socket wrench
    14 mm ratchet combo wrench
    19 mm impact socket
    BAUER 8.5 Amp 1/2 in. Variable Speed Impact wrench - 1,050 ft/lbs.
    Purchased from Harbor Freight for about $90.
    Rubber mallet hammer
    Ball-peen hammer

    I purchased my oil seal at AutoZone for under $10.
    I bought the impact wrench at Harbor Freight for $90.
    Good luck!

      I can relate. I’ve got leaks from seals in several places. At 495,000 miles I can’t really complain though. 🙂

    Thank you for the amazing content, I have the 95 4rth gen and will be referring to your video to help me with my repairs. I plan to replace all sensors that leak and any pully that may be on their way out.

      I’ll be curious to hear how that project goes. I’ve thought about doing a major tear down, but at 493k miles, I’m not sure I want to go that deep. But it’s tempting.

    Great video. I just bought a 99 Maxima with only 61 k that has oil leak. I will check if it is the same reason.

    Excellent step by step indeed. Question could the bolt on the harmonic balancer be removed prior to any of the belts being removed?

    • @Raymazon
      @Raymazon  Před 2 lety

      That’s a great question. I assume you could. I hadn’t considered trying it.
      There would be friction on the pulley, so when you use the impact wrench, it would possibly be enough to hold it from turning.
      If you do that, please let us know how it works. Thanks for suggestion!

    does anyone know where the crankshaft position sensor is located on a 1994 nissan maxima GXE? I can't seem to locate it on my engine. thank you

    • @Raymazon
      @Raymazon  Před 5 měsíci

      Sorry for the delay in responding. On my '97, it was in two places. Hard to show here though. One location is near the top of the main pulley, the other was on the driver's side of the block just above the oil pan. I had to recently replace that one. Not too hard, but messy. I didn't film it though. I don't know where the "94 would be, but maybe in similar areas.

    I have no reverse on my 96 maxima . Did you ever have to repair your transmission ? I have 200 000 miles.

    • @Raymazon
      @Raymazon  Před rokem +1

      I replaced my transmission at about 250K. The car just passed 500K last week.
