Everyone seems to be hating on the vid, but I thought the clip was a great match-up. It suits the actual meaning of the song perfectly. A woman is doing everyday things, but her facial expression doesn't change once. Either there is no-one there to change her expression FOR, or she just doesn't really feel anymore because she is so used to existing as a commodity for the masses.
Yeah you could have crazy lighting, dancing, costumes or explosions, but I think this works better.

great analysis! I loved the video and was the first time hearing the song. I know it isn't the offical but people need to look at the art abstractly. The lyrics blend quite well with Hadid's apathic observation of her success. Powerful concept by itself and even better with this song. Can you explain more on your comment? I think this video perfectly captures a moment in the life of a young woman isolated and desensitized by an industry that has robbed her of her humanity only to turn her into a pretty little sex meme. Whether this footage was meant to be this songs video or not it does a damn fine job of reflecting the sentiment of the song.

I think this video symbolizes much more than meets the eye. The song speaks about how she is different from others, pretty much isolated. In the video, she is a lonely mansion owner, living alone and just wandering around her Gargantuan estate. This is just my view on this and yes, I know this is not the actual video.

Just want to say, I keep coming back this video. It is amazing. The simplicity of it is what makes it so damn powerful. Fantastic job.
Everyone in the comments that are bitching about this video, and how it "doesn't match the song" obviously doesn't get why this video was chosen for the song, and the message it's trying to portray. So I'm just going to say a lot and hopefully get my point across, and tell everyone why this video is near GENIUS.
First, main character: Gigi what's-her-face. Everyone knows her or at least her face. You could be told her name and have no idea who she is, but you see a picture and you'd be like "oh yeah, her". You might even think that she's hot or something, which wouldn't be surprising. The reason the clip used to make this video was chosen was partly because of Gigi's reputation. Her reputation being a pretty, perfect model who was (is?) with Zayn whats-his-face. This clip shows her, a beautiful, well-known woman, expressionless. Expressionless, in most cases, equals emptiness. Gigi, a young, beautiful model, is empty on the inside. The way she walks around her enormous mansion, and the way she doesn't seem to feel anything or say a word, sets an eery (did I spell that right?) tone of sorts.
Next, the setting. This is set in California, obviously, as told by the HOLLYWOOD sign that was shown early on in the video. HOLLYWOOD is chosen for two reasons. 1. Gigi is a celebrity, so it makes sense that she would stay here. 2. HOLLYWOOD is generally a place full of drama, and action, and happiness, at least, those are the traits that are connected with it. The next part of the setting is Gigi's house. It's enormous. Multiple stories, big modern windows to see outside with--letting light in--, and it's topped off with a crystal clear swimming pool. The house is also in isolation which also goes along with emptiness. Having Gigi act this way in her own house, alone, made something feel off. Almost as if the audience was alone with her.
Next, what she did in the video. Gigi didn't do much which was the entire point. It first shows her waking up, and when she does so, it's almost as if she's just opening her eyes. It's almost as if she hadn't slept at all. Then, she gets up makes coffee. She's running on coffee when she wakes up. This hints to sluggishness, and the way she did it so mechanically (the way she did everything in this video mechanically) could imply that this is her normal routine. Everyday, she gets up, she makes coffee, she walks around--in a very jagged, confused, almost vulnerable? way--then she jumps into her pool. This is her life.
Finally, the reason why Gasoline went perfect with the clip. Gasoline is a very raw, harsh song, and Halsey's voice is also raw and harsh which is one of the reasons the song is so good. This video is a story of a woman who is depressed, if you hadn't already gotten that bit. The woman, Gigi, is a celebrity, but her life is nothing. She is nothing except for a pretty face (the video focuses on her face a lot which was done purposefully). She is empty. She is alone. In Gasoline, Halsey describes just that. Halsey talks of her being driven insane, she's doing things she's never done before because she wants to feel something. She talks of people believing that she is nothing but a pretty face which is exactly what people think of Gigi. Halsey heavily implies mental illness in Gasoline, and it's also heavily implied in this video. One of the reasons I think Gasoline goes perfectly with this clip is because Halsey's words are what Gigi is feeling. The lyrics of the chorus, ("You can't wake up; this is not a dream. You're not a human being--you're part of a machine with your face all made up, living on a screen. Low on self-esteem, so you run on gasoline") almost go perfectly with the character, Gigi, provided for us. The off coloring of the video, but also how brightly the sun seems to shine suggests that Gigi is in a dream-like state. To support this, the way Gigi walks around her house and her yard makes it feel like she's not there. Her face is perfect. She is on our screens, and we look at her as if she has nothing wrong with her, because of our assumptions. To us, she does not feel. Her life is perfect compared to ours. We look up to her as we push her down, if that makes sense. But, in this clip, the facts? That perfect people aren't perfect, and that sometimes all they have is a cup of coffee in the morning.
Do you see what I'm saying? Do you understand why the creator put these two things together? I hope I didn't waste my time typing that.

I've seen recently that they is so much hate saying that all she is doing is drinking milk. Halsey just sang this song last Thursday at Poptopia in San Jose! I always think of this wonderful video when it comes to this song.I hope the OP got an A for creating this amazing piece. I first found this video when I was getting ready to see her HFK tour and wanted to familiarize myself with everything on the setlist. I've seen her 3 times total now, but HFK was the best because it was just her and she wasn't part of series of performers.
