I started researching this iron just yesterday! Cords can really get in my way, and my cat loves to lay under my ironing board when I iron fabric. I worry she will yank my iron off the ironing board when I stop to sew. You have made this iron even more appealing. Thank you for the timely video!

Happy to see you finally got this iron. :D I've had mine for about 2 yrs, now and enjoy the cordless feature and the double points. I usually switch from my left hand to my right hand when ironing so this is great. This year for Christmas I got the Oliso iron in pink just for quilting so I don't have to worry about knocking it over or forgetting to prop it up. I do love a good gadget! Anita Thomas I too had this on my list of items to buy, but I recently came across another brand (Sunbeam or Shark - do not remember off the top of my head) which I picked up fir about 1/3 of the price. It does not have the carrying case but I do not travel to retreats etc. It can be stood up without the base which I personally find convenient.

I don't have this one, but I do have one of their other cordless models and it makes me so happy! I hated ironing when I had a cord. Now I'll make a day of it when I have a good sized stack of new fabric to fold and sort

I would have loved one of these irons when I did long-arm quilting for quilters. Whenever I needed to steam out extra fullness in their borders, which was quite frequent, I used to have to first heat up my iron, unplug it, then take it over to the long-arm machine and use steam on the borders. This Panasonic would have been a dream for that very thing.

I have an older version of this iron. Only difference is it has the flat back end. I've used it for almost 10 years and I still love it. You don't have to put it hack into the tray quickly. Holds heat well. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

That iron resembles the old flat irons that were heated on the wood stove. My mom had them.

I got this iron a few years ago. A few cons: it leaks A LOT. So much so that I have to put a folded towel under the base or else the surface it sits on gets absolutely soaked, which can't be safe. Also, the cord is on a reel and it doesn't always want to stay unreeled. It will often start reeling the cord back in itself when I'm still using it, which tugs the base toward my outlet because the base is very lightweight. That being said, the finicky base takes away from the cordless iron appeal for me. Another problem I've encountered is that when I am trying to use the steam button, it doesn't always give me a burst of steam without pressing it MULTIPLE times, like 15 to 20 times or more, especially when your water reservoir is not filled completely. Having the reservoir filled to the brim in turn causes this thing to leak like a faucet. This iron also doesn't keep hot very long, which is a problem for me when I'm pressing large amounts of fabric. I think I'm finally going back to a regular iron.
Laura, thank you for this video and I've learned something new, too. I've had this iron for 2 or 3 years and have used it almost every day. I love that it is cordless and light weight. Today, it stopped working. I find that highly unacceptable since the other irons I've used in the past that were heavy and had cords lasted for years. The off light is showing green and the setting for high light is showing red and I can't get the selection button to change the setting. Any suggestions?

Four short questions for you; what are your thoughts about ceramic vs metal iron sole plate? Also does the manufacturer say what type of water should be used? How long does the iron stay at the chosen temperature when ironing/pressing (once the temperature is reached) before it needs to go back on the charger? Lastly, does the chosen temperature light blink when the temperature of the iron falls below the set temperature while using it? This was a nice overview of this product. Thank you!
It uses tap water, the light does not blink when the temp falls. If I am ironing a large piece of material I find I need to set it back on its base frequently to keep it hot enough.
it is a metal sole and I always use a mix of distilled water and tap water 1/2 1/2. You have to keep the iron on the rest when not using it, but I do find it stay hot enough for me to press each seam as needed. I don not press a whole shirt at on time. hope this helps
Very impressive iron Laura. I have bad arthritis in my hands and a couple of years ago bought the Oliso iron thinking it would be easier on my hands. Sadly the weight of the iron, even without water in it, is so heavy my wrists and hands ache badly after about an hour of use. How does the cordless Panasonic compare in weight compared to the Olisio or regular irons? Love watching all your tutorials and am one of your biggest fans. Keep up the good work. I bought mine for the same reason. I took a quilting class and they had the Oliso. I was happy to use it, but the weight of it was way too heavy for me. I love the Panasonic, but I did find it cooled down quickly for large pieces of material.

no I have not done a pattern on that yet but it sounds nice. This is a perfect job for a pattern. be sure to buy the correct size as patterns are not the size we buy in the store:)

I bought this iron, but the water droplets stays in the cartridge after each use. I read all through the manual, set the dry function before turn off. How about yours?

yes I do still have the condensation in the water tank. so I jus give it a shake to get as much as I can out.

Therese Ruff YES I have the one with the ceramic plate and LOVE it! This iron STAYS HOT no problem with cooling down. The steam is fantastic.

My biggest problem is the weight of irons. Is this one very heavy? I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, so heavy irons just do my wrists etc in.

Laura how long does it stay hot enough to press and steam.... that would be my biggest concern. And how long does it take to heat up??
Renee Felts mine takes about 45 seconds to heat up the first time I use it, and then when it kicks off and I turn it back on after sewing for a while it takes about half the time. What I think some people don't get is that any time you would normally set the iron down to adjust what you're working on, it needs to go on the base. You can't charge it up and use it for an hour without setting it on the base. I don't use a ton of steam so I can't help you on that part.
it takes the same time as my reg iron to heat up and stays hot enough for what I need to press. If I need to press a large thing I would use my reg iron.

I love this iron, but after buying an Oliso Smart iron a few years ago to replace my old Sunbeam (which I still use for dry ironing), then a SteamFast travel iron, I think my husband will shoot me if I ask for a fourth iron, or at least start asking me to iron actual clothes, which we all know will never happen lol

Would hate this iron. My iron allows me to bypass Auto off, so it stays on till I ask it to turn off. If I want auto off, I can turn it back on, but as a quilter I despise the iron cooling down and having to wait each time. My iron is also a steam generator and so it's got steam ready the minute I pick it up. I has NEVER once spit, dripped or leaked. Cordless is great, but not with the auto off, the instant cooling down and having to take the reservoir off to fill it.. yeah no thanks.
Livinnpjs you don't have to take the res off to fill it, it's just an option. I never take mine off, I refill it while it's on. And I only have to wait a few seconds for it to reheat when it has kicked off. It takes longer to go from not having been on at all today to hot than from having kicked off to hot, if that makes sense.

It makes sense. I'll stick with my Reliable Velocity 200IR, I set it to Bypass the Auto Off, and it never goes off. (unless I turn it off) So it's always hot.
What I do for filling though is great, I have a Zero Water Filter jug WITH the spigot on it, I have it sitting next to my iron, and use the spigot to fill the measuring cup, pour into iron. Clean water without hauling distilled gallons, water is always at my elbow and I only have to fill up the Zero Water jug once a month.
If you are in the market for a new iron, check out the Reliable Velocity. It has 4.5 stars on Amazon, on BBB and 4.7 on Home Depot. Its 169.00 which is less than Oliso. Mine has NEVER spit, dripped or leaked, it has the auto off BYPASS so I set that when I start sewing and then turn the iron off when I go to bed. That way, the iron is never off when I need it, but safe when I want safe. It's a steam generator, so loads of steam and I have even considered buying a second one to put up on a shelf, I never want to be without this iron. It is heavy though, if that is a factor for you. Reliable is the manufacturer that makes all the professional irons and steamers used in the garment industry, so it's high end, well made. I use a Zero water Filter with the spigot vs distilled, it's much handier and no lugging gallons of water.
Livinnpjs I have never heard of your iron, what is this “jug” you use & how does it work? Is it a filtering type of jug w/replacement filters then? To bypass auto shut off is a wonderful feature, for piecing & appliqué I prefer to control that aspect.
