Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on CZcams!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

As someone who works extremely hard, when I see those gloves on the floor I see more than just a pair of gloves. I see miners covered in dust and dirt. I see sore calloused hands, sore backs, tired achy feet. I see blood, sweat, and tears. I see hot hard work and heavy effort. I see sweat pouring, and men wiping their foreheads with whatever they can that won't rub dirt in their eyes at the same time. I'm always fascinated by what these guys went through to bore these holes chasing whatever mineral it may be. God bless all the hard working men who put in all the effort that most times someone else capitalized off of.
Never touch a dead animal, especially if you don't know what caused its death. Invisible killers abide.
Alpha Gal is pretty darn scary too, Nature suffers no fools.
Yeah those mice probably died from touching other mice 🙄
Even with the camera issues, your videos are still my favourite! I hope you're able to get those new camera's soon! It's going to be awesome when you and Laura each have your own setup!
I Wish I was with you guys. The blue is magnificent. Keep exploring my friends 💋🩵💙💋🩵💙💋
Second one was pretty! Thanks guys.
Well, despite not having any really deep mines to explore you found some really nice specimens to add to your Ebay page so there's that at least. Besides, it I get to see some really beautiful geology that that makes up for a lot for me. Maybe I could win a rock specimen or two? Who knows! Take care and see you two on Saturday!
“Gly”: We save the deeper more advanced mines for Saturday shows. 👍
Love the short and sweet exploratory videos - thanks! It's all a part of our geology education, not just the adventure, and you're the only one who spends the time to show the geology and minerals!
Thank you Gly for sharing your adventures
Gly, thank you for your Video................Good Job.................JB...............
Wow. I love these explores. Thanks Gly and Laura.
Some nice colorful copper ore in the second mine. Thanks, Gly and Laura, for another mine adventure.

Awesome blue ! 😮 be safe out there ! See you Saturday! 👍🏼🙂
What a marvelous blue mine. OLD BLUE EYES 😊
Absolutely love seeing the copper mines you explore! So beautiful seeing how mother nature spread her glory under ground. Thanks for taking us along once again!
Thank you from New Zealand. Most interesting. I really enjoy your adventures! I also like minerals!!
Gly, you should do some shorts of the rattlesnakes you come across. Love your channel btw!
Packrat Playground 😁🌸
Creeps me out when you guys get into those narrow passages. You must get quite an adrenaline dump from that.
“Gly”: It’s definitely not for everyone, especially those with Claustrophobia.
Thanks for the explore 👍
That WAS fun. Enjoyed it. Be safe.
People also used a blue stone they placed in a mason jar with water and shook it till the water turned blue. It was great for treating poison ivy on your skin !!!!
Good morning from Syracuse NY everyone
🙋♂️☕️☀️
I used to go to school in a mining town called Burra located in South Australia. The Town of the monster mine. We used to pick up malachite green . The size of foot balls . It was worthless at the time. 50 year later a went back to the old town and found out that a slice of Malachite green was worth 400 dollars AU how time had changed
Thanks gly and Laura for another great and interesting exploration. Super blue colours wow. Ask Laura for some eye to 👀 contact she's always hiding behind the shades 😂 stay safe looking forward to the next installment
“Gly”: Those are her prescription glasses. I’ll tell here but if she takes them off she might fall into a hole. 🕳️ lol
Safety first 😂
Gly can you confirm that NHP is the correct details for PayPal?
Those weren't rabbit droppings. Those were migrating Texas whopper Bats!
Well, colors on the first adit, interesting. the next adit, mice heaven. Adit 3, colors nice, real nice. 4th adit, Ugly mine, sketchy, yep, my back is hurting also. Ratz, camera failures are bummers. 5th adit, straight as an arrow mine. Were at the end of the film.
Gly and Laura, thank you for another adventure. I'm currently home after a major back surgery on rehabilitation and your bi weekly videos really help me to keep my sanity. Keep up the good work and stay safe during all of your adventures.
“Gly”: Hang in there and heal up soon!
Lovin' the bi-weekly content.
Another great mine explore Gly and Laure! Loved the blue! Thank you!
going to be hunting for some of my own soon. joined A rock club
That blue looks exactly like what some of the native tribes are mining and calling turquoise !!!
Chrysocolla, It's The Real Thing!
Gly, how do you tell a recent collapse from an old collapse? I'm writing a novel and a scene takes place underground a few days after a collapse. Love your content. Been watching for a few years. Glad you have an exploring buddy again. Stay safe
“Gly”: Thank you! You can easily tell by observing the dust on the rocks in the area of collapse.
@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces thank you so much!
Another great explore from our intrepid duo. Stay safe as always. Love to you both xx
Thanks for the Wednesday explore video.
I hope you get the specimens from the ground and I saw someone's name next to the ones you knocked off the wall. I am surprised that you would do this Gly.
“Gly”: You know I don’t take mining artifacts from mines but I alway find it curious why some folks think you shouldn’t take rocks and minerals from mines. 🤔 Many if not all the rocks and minerals at rock and mineral shows come from mines and the public is allowed to take a “reasonable amount” of rocks from public lands. I collected 8 specimens, not 8 truckloads and I certainly didn’t tear the mountain down like so many open pit operations have done. It’s a rock retrieved from an abandoned mine on public lands, I simply don’t understand your concern. 🤔 When you drive past a persons rock garden in front of someone’s house filled with rocks removed from public lands and used for display purposes, how do you feel about that? The whole thing just seems so trivial, it’s a rock for crying out loud. 🤷♂️
@Gly ... As always, a great vid explore, keeps an old explorer from the Wales very happy ! Whats with the hearts in the intro though ??
“Gly”: Laura likes hearts. 💕
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces Your not "Gly Coolness" for nothing !! LOL!
Hey Gly love the videos! Wondering what kind of drones you use?
Morning , mineral outside of portal is Tufa
You two make a cute couple and a great team !
You know how they drilled and blasted those tunnels out you walk through? I don't.
“Gly”: You’ll learn a little bit about that in today’s video but I’ve discussed it many times in past videos.
Vraiment un plaisir de vous regardez Gly et Laura ; de la France je vous suit et j'adore vos explorations , bisous a Laura et calin pour Gly
Merci
This is where consistancy comes into play. I knew you were putting out a video today but you aren't in my Notifications. I've double checked and I am subscribed and I do have the bell selected to receive ALL notifications. Bad CZcams! Yes I think I can speak for everyone we love the extra episode and including the probbing episodes. More Gly and Laura the better.
“Gly”: Yes, CZcams is back at it again. We’re being partially shadow banned on the platform, new subscribers deleted with growth and ad revenue at a near standstill. It’s frustrating to say the least. 😡
Interesting, my CZcams says Gly's channel is set for kids content and therefore notifications won't work. So weird.
“Gly”: Interesting. Every video I’ve ever uploaded was individually selected “not for kids” in the upload process. More CZcams shenanigans. 😠
Learn a lot from you. Thanks
4:46 Awesome, to see you have the audio dialed in, crisp and clear.5:06 What about combing through the muck piles, you might get lucky. You did that sporadically in the past and put samples up for sale. Eh?
“Gly”: I haven’t really found anything too exciting in the waste rock piles yet that’s gotten me excited.
Nice
Hey Gly who is this Chris Buecola guy, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him on your show. 😂 😮😂
Heck yeah
Watching on my new iPad 😅
14:28 Guy never played Minecraft. You never did straight above you 😂
Just kidding, great video and great mine!
🥰🥰🥰
Hey y'all help him with a camera. Each time it goes off CZcams turns on my closed captions!
Does it happen to you because I'm putting it together?
Breaking rocks in a deep mine...
1:00 Dorf on mines!
“Gly”: Yep, that’s me! You hit the nail on the head. 👍
Gly. Where do you get your safety helmets? Also.what product do you use for your bad air alarm?
“Gly”: Petzl for the safety gear and Altair for the monitors.
Gly are you and Laura going to visit Frank and Sharon?
“Gly”: Yes, but not for the channel. Theres an area in Canada we’d like to visit and when we do we’ll stop on by and say hello.
❤❤❤
Gly, Laura, what is the life span of arattle snake. Were they baby Mice or rats. Every time i see the wednesday thumbnail i keep thinking it's Saturday.
“Gly”: On average, rattlesnakes live 10 - 25 years in the wild and even longer in captivity. After reviewing the footage, what we found were baby pack rats that probably died from exposure or were removed from their nest by a predator.
How do you know if it’s ok to take stuff from the mines?
“Gly”: Well, you used the words “take stuff from mines”. I’m assuming you’re referring to rocks and minerals because antiques are protected by antiquities laws and cannot be removed from mines. In regard to rocks and minerals, any US citizen can stake a mineral claim on public lands to remove rocks and minerals. I’m sure you’ve heard of “staking a claim” for gold and silver? Well, you can stake a claim for copper ore too. If you’d like to learn more, Google: staking a claim on public lands.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces yes sorry, minerals
Offer still open to take you Gly to take you and Laura up in my Piper Turbo Saratoga to recon for mines in Ariz and Nevada. Doug
“Gly”: Thanks Doug. Laura and I still have an itinerary we’re following right now and that’ll keep us busy through the summer.
W ayching
Gotta the the original intro in all its ass scratchin goodness
Which camera are you upgrading to ?
“Gly”: That’s a proprietary secret 🤫
Tall people problems. Bent over going that far back…. You can count me out.
Is that blue stone worth anything?
“Gly”: Not really. Just a cool rock to put on your bookshelf and an excellent specimen of copper ore.
@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces oh ok yeah it is pretty if I lived over there I'd probably get a few pieces out of there too it's beautiful if you got it polished it would look even better I bet
Wednesday’s tech lacks what Saturday’s tech provides. Poor lightning also plagues Wednesday.
“Gly”: The channel has two camps, Wednesday style and Saturday style but the bottom line is it’s all produced by one person (me) so there will be shortcomings when maintaining weekly content. I find it very interesting when people such as yourself are taking notice because it proves that no matter how hard you try to please… you can’t please everyone no matter how hard you try.
two shows two mouths to feed neat
What ever happened to Mr bucket ?
“Gly”: He’s got a great big chip on his shoulder since Laura arrived so now he stays in the back seat.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaceswith the hoe😂

I’m watching in my undies 😀
27:13 450 feet on rib.
So if you take rocks from a mine and it’s already claimed up and sell them are you a claim jumper? Also if it’s not claimed and you do the same is it considered “mining” ? Not trying to be an ahole honestly just curious. I know here in AZ there is a small sized limit on BLM on how much you can take before technically if you get caught there is fines the rangers can impose.
“Gly”: Yes, if you take rocks and minerals from an active mine you are claim jumping. If it’s not claimed you are “rock hounding” or “sampling”. If you’re removing a substantial amount of rocks and minerals from BLM public lands you must stake a claim otherwise you are limited by the rock hounding rules. @@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces Thank you for answering my question much appreciated!
Use me as the where is Mr M button
He said why Mr. M don't participate anymore...go look back
@@shariselovecan you explain for people who didn't see that?
You must not have watched in a long time but he hasn't been on in a while. He is older and has had health problems. Simply can't do this kind of stuff. But Gly does talk about it in videos over the past couple months. Laura is his new partner.
Set your channel up as an Educational Non-Profit and then we could make tax deductible donations.
those mines look pretty crumbly, seemed a little bit sketchy.. you shouldn't be handling dead creatures,,there was some nice looking copper deposits though thanks for the tour
