On a cold day in Winnipeg, the old barn wouldn't go down without a fight... Just like the Jets... Now it's a dirt parking lot for people going to the Bomber games...
Winningpeg....losing a great barn. I've never been to the Peg - the only Canadian city I've been to is Ottawa - but this was a great place for hockey. Always a great atmosphere
I miss that arena so much. I like the mts center, but it's just not the Winnipeg Arena. and the Winnipeg arena had a smell to it and everything, and an awesomeness and when you walked in there it felt awesome.
@MasterJoBob It wasn't the fans fault. It was a combinaton of rising salaries in a small market (which led to the demise of Quebec and Hartford, too) and the worst lease in the history of mankind, where the team barely got any revenue from the arena's owners. And by try as hard as they could, they tried to raise money to buy the team, but they came up short. $13 million isn't bad though. The money was donated to various MB charities.
@rctsos It has characteristics..good people for the most part, honest, hardworking. I personally think all the refugees are a good thing, helping the city be a bit more cultured. I think Winnipeg will blossom. i agree with you, the city does have potential, but I don't understand your 'strong demand" comment
@dejaqwho if they charged enought for tickets, they could make the 15,000 seat MTS Centre work, the major hurdle would be a lack a major corporate investments.
whats sad now is that location is only used as a parking lot for overflow during bomber games...while the mts center only caters to minor leagues and concerts...i hate to say but we couldn't get an NHL team again if we wanted to thanks to this decision
they should have kept it and converted the areana into a shopping center or something, and having part of the boards, brick, ice in and around the new shopping center.
I fucking hope they don't do this with Nordiques' Colisé Pepsi. At least I am glad the local junior hockey leage team uses it now I hope they bring back new teams in Winnipeg/Quebec
@UncleStumpy ok.....good...but now im gettin confused of getting yelled or shit like that but i hope jets come back.....lets go jets....sadly i moved from winnipeg to mississauga ontario a month ago
Nice pipe dream Winnipeg, you cant have a NHL team in a 15000 arena that was made for minor league hockey and concerts. The cost to make it was 130 million $. It was made cheaply and no NHL hockey in mind. Furthermore it cannot be expanded over 16000 seats without major investment over 100million dollars do take down the roof and build up. Look at the newest hockey arena in Pittsburgh it cost 400 million to build, you need such a investment to have a stadium that can make NHL hockey feasible.
thats stupid they should of kept it up and winnipeg shouldnt of left. The stadium could of been a attraction like a tour thing the history of the winnipeg jets put pictures and there stanley cups and videos but they knock it down so stupid.

R.I.P WINNIPEG ARENA

I'm a Canucks fan, but it's sad to see any NHL team come to an end.
i think this goes to show that winnipeg can build sturdy "barns". whoo us winnipeggers.
18 years ago today the Old barn on Maroons road was demolished
i'll miss that place..soo many memories of going too see wrestling and the circus and the red river ex too :(
Iron Maiden -Twisted Sister December 3rd 1984. That was when the roof was actually blown off.
if only winnipeg could get a new nhl team and if only the old barn wasn't torn down
the Amway Arena went down...I seen that video on MSN just minutes ago and it got me thinking of the Winnipeg Arena that put up a fight to stay up LOL
I'm really glad this city got their team back! But... Lets Go Pens!
@dejaqwho the NHL has repeatedly said it can work. If you've been in the rink you'll know it's an amazing facility.
whooooo!!!! I was acctually there, and it was awesome
bring back the JETS!!!!!!!!!!

@azbaldy5 Vancouver has its farm team here so it gets a lot of support. Jonathon toews is from winnipeg, so lots of Blackhawks fans.
I find this comment fuuny and I'm from winnipeg, mind if I ask where are you from?
a bombers game is wat we call our football game in winnipeg. im not a big football fan but the CFL team in winnipeg is the winnipeg blue bombers.
A lot of memories there
@TheUltimatePhillyFan Which is why we have the MTS Centre...
No, it's because the Winnipeg Jets weren't supposed to leave!
I think it is a moral offense to destroy a cathedral to the great game of Hockey.
@dejaqwho if they charged enought for tickets, they could make the 15,000 seat MTS Centre work, the major hurdle would be a lack a major corporate investments.

Don't you sound like an idiot now...
@UncleStumpy lol thnx
@MasterJoBob 1) Winnipeg KNEW the team was leaving. They tried as much as they could.
2) Delusional....just like your mind

MY NHL INCLUDES THE WINNIPEG JETS!
MY NHL DOESN'T INCLUDE GARY BETTMAN!
I saw RUSH there in 1982.

@Thesebijan1 lol we will welcome you back if you get here ;-)
Because the Jets have a new arena. :) This is truly the most pathetic "implosion" I've ever seen in my life. :P
0:45...Geez ya think?????
they should have kept it and converted the areana into a shopping center or something, and having part of the boards, brick, ice in and around the new shopping center.
Winnipeg Arena
It never goes down!
it didnt want the jets to go !!
SlurpeeCapital same
@Thesebijan1 why??? winnipeg's got an arena...EVERYONE involved has said its fine, NHL, everyone

welcome back winnipeg
@khunopie Screw off, Winnipeg is epic! As soon as they come back, I'm taking the next bus to NYC to the NHL store and getting a Jets jersey and hat ;D
did they remove that HUGE azz picture of the queen before implosion?
I think the whole building was supposed to go down is the most Canadian accent.
winnipeg, one great city
It's true!
hey their getting hockey back.
I thought this already burned down when Ric Flair came through years ago. It would have been much cheaper and far more effective, at least.
these sure werent the same guys that did wtc7, or maybe they coulda just set some fires that seemed to work well in NY
luuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
@ninjaslayer99 k
@TheDaleDenton, wow! you must be 12, right?

this is stupid if the jets come back, Canada has 2 waste more money constructing and new arena
if i become rich i will bring the jets back to winnipeg
how is that going for ya lol, hope you’ve got some money saved up 12 years later!
Don't ever get this tool company for a job. They suck. Too cheap.
