Those bangs on the keyboard and sighs when the disc drive started to fail reading the floppy disk weren't too ASMRish. 😉 It reminded me of the same problems I had with floppy disks back in the 90s, since they weren't too reliable, unfortunately. That's not relaxing at all!
I missed the sound of silence before computers had hard drives, fans, floppies, and phone modems. Just a cartridge or tape recorder or occasional floppy.
A slight suggestion to offer when operating MS-DOS: If you're looking to unpack a file that is a zip drive extension, it's easier to have the directory spell out for you, all the details of the files present on your drive diskette, then do the command of: install (name of file) with the .exe extension after it, and pressing the enter key. If it's an update, any preexisting file will be overridden in the process, and any remaining straggler, will simply be an unused file in a folder that never gets touched.
When I worked for the FBI doing database, I use to get up at 4:00 AM on a Saturday, so I could seize the day, doing all kinds of computer hobby things, along with, watching movies, and, after doing that, time seemed to go nice and slow, where it would be only 11 AM. Plenty of Saturday leftover.
20:12 - I sooo much understand you, nothing is worse, especially if you have one single copy of some crappy data... *Whole my life hate floppies* ... and stupid scandisk, that never helps...
OMG , this step @ 4:10 looks the same for decades, even in Windows XP ... this is in some way an advantage , reminding my self on Windows 8 (vomit ejection in progress) ...
Dosbox can't replace many of the perks of these old system, like the fan noise, the HDD clicking and rotating noise, the floppy loading noise, and the CRT screen glow
1AM is the best time for computer related shenanigans
Agreed.
Agreed.
It's 430am for me 😵💫

Yea
Old computer sounds and the glow of a nice CRT in the dark... so very relaxing and nostalgic.
Reminds me my teenager nights in the 2000s when I still had my old 486
I had one of those old 386 turbo pc's from the late 1990's
Imagine if halfway through they just started playing doom really loudly lmao
I'm 20 minutes in and truth be told I was hoping for some Doom.
Gotta love the rage at 20:00 😆
This is a very real thing. That sigh is absolutely on point.
This is a nerdgasm.. and I love it.

8:08 would love to see scandisk running on this computer as well..
I love that the setup program didn't really change all the way up to Windows XP.

We're getting back there, with SSDs and power efficient CPUs. My new laptop is pretty much silent a lot of the time.
3:45 he is magical he didnt put his finger so the bar would load
Not too long ago, we had this. And now here I am studying and coding, using an AIs like Codex and ChatGPT to assist me. It's insane.

Thank you, this is really well done. I miss my old computer so much..

34:54 Well, his Pacman clone was neat but his little hate speech about open source was ridiculous. "Dirty hippy open source"? "Snake oil"? 🤦🏻♂
I fell asleep to this last night, via my phone. I didn't even notice the message. I'll have to check it out on a larger screen, once I wake up.
