    Key point is that is how you should be walking! on the forefoot / front foot.. it lets all your muscles in feet, legs, and butt take the impact, and build muscle.. if you walk heel first, it damages knee and back! yep, walking front foot actually improves posture, no matter which shoes are worn.. good that you mentioned it, many people dont know this.

    I once had a pair of leather soled moccasins that I wore till they had holes in the bottom. Since then I buy the most flexible and minimalist shoes possible.
    I will even buy slippers to use as street shoes.
    I haven't worn heels or even low heels in almost 25 years.
    I am very happy they are making these type of shoes.
    I love feeling the ground beneath my feet

    Highly recommend Xero shoes for transitioning. They are affordable, and have a bit more padding (they come with an insole that you can remove for a closer to the ground feeling). I've swtitched to barefoot a month ago and can really feel the difference- I don't think I'll ever get back to classic sneakers ever again. I currently own the xero prio for the gym
    , prio suede for everyday walks etc. and the Dillon for work and more casual events. Plan on getting more in the future :)

    Xero genesis sandals for like $50 or their DIY sandals for like $30 . Not for people who aren't ready or wanting to feel the ground but for the price they are still prob my favorite pair of shoes I've purchased

      you can make the sandals even more affordable by just buying a sheet of sole rubber and some paracord. Basically the same as the Xero DIY, but the ones I use with vibram soles (slightly more expensive than unbranded ones) only cost about 10$ per pair

      I have the trek style Xero and love them. I rotate with keen H2 (wide toe box, by getting one size up and using the shock cord to personalize) for work, where my contract specifies toe protection. (I take them off at every house because most are sensible barefoot houses, or clean enough. So, I’m being protected from….stairs?)
      I still have my Birks and Chacos, but man they feel like snow boots now.

    How long did it take you to change your stride? I’ve been on barefoot for about a month. I notice I’m landing softer and closer below the hips, but I’m not landing on the mid/forefoot yet.

    • @aidanblanks
      @aidanblanks  Před 11 měsíci +1

      It was something that slowly developed as I would go on runs. I’ve heard if your stride doesn’t change then you can try to be conscious of your stride and try to adjust. But I’d do more research 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @got2kittys Před 11 měsíci +3

      In my case, I'm over 60, lots of years of bad shoes. After going zero-lift, and barefoot shoes, it took about 6 months to make my stride, and posture change. You'll need time to retrain muscles and joints, but will steadily improve. My knee and hip/lower back chronic pain needed about 6 weeks to get 80% better. Don't give up, it feels awkward at first.

    Cool! My 11 yr old son refuses to wear shoes much of the time and his toes are more spread out than his brothers feet are. Makes more sense after watching your video. Do you know how barefoot shoes effect those with flat feet? We all have flat feet, sadly, but I'm interested in maybe trying this out.

    • @aidanblanks

    I'm 58, very fit for my age, do a lot of "power yoga" -type routines. Month ago I was developing a bunion so did some research and read up on barefoot shoes. Bought a pair of Merrell Vapor Glove 5s and yes, barefoot shoes are a game-changer. Great posture, knee pain gone, and my feet are alive again. And I just bought some Amazon knock-offs in case something happens to the Merrell's, I'm hooked.
    On transitioning, it didn't take me too long. Twenty miles in and the new gait was no longer something that needed constant thought, and the muscles in my legs and but didn't mind the extra work required to walk naturally. However, most of my walking is asphalt and concrete, and the dogs do get sore at the end of five miles of that, so I also bought a footbath massager and Epsom salts to revitalize them nightly. Highly recommend this.

      Walking barefoot is like using tretinoine: you can totally mess your skin/full body if you are impatient but the results are beyond otherwordly if you go *LOW & SLOW* Repeat with me again: *LOOOOOOOW & SLOOOOOW* I don' t dictate the tempo😅. Take care! 🧛🏻‍♀️🖤

    • @rodrigosouto9502
      @rodrigosouto9502 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@sebumpostmortem I agree 100%! I'm in month 9 of my transition. And yet not totally adapted. Yes, nine months in.
      After 6 months I rushed a little, by walking hours and running more than usual. And that gave me pain. Then I slowed again and went back to smaller increments in time walked. And progress now is being great.
      The thing is: we walked and ran the wrong way for decades of our lives. Some people will really need to take their time. And if it takes months or even years it's ok. Be patient. Don't overwalk or overrun. You have an entire live to recover. You have other decades of life to overcome past decades.

    • @rodrigosouto9502
      @rodrigosouto9502 Před 11 měsíci +1

      One more thing. Maybe there are people that can adapt in months or even weeks. It is their time. It doesn't mean that you can adapt as quick as them. You really need to observe how your body reacts and adapt to.

    i've been just trying to walk around with no shoes at all more often, but for most of the day, I have to wear boots because of work, and I have to wear steel toe boots too. even leaving work and getting into my house, I cannot wear barefoot shoes, I ride a motorcycle and then have to walk through shells and gravel. so only around my house, backyard, or friends/families house can I not protect my feet. I didnt realize how bad it is until I tried just not wearing shoes to make my feet feel better.

      In my case, it helped get rid of knee pain. (50 & always had knees that would twinge and ache).
      Like the man says though, start slowly and build up the time wearing them.
      I started by walking around the house barefoot and with no heel contact on the floor.
      Then I would wear saguaros at the gym.
      Then I look for walking trails that are only grass and soil - avoiding hard surfaces.
      And I added wearing gel toe spreaders from time to time, to help regain natural foot shape.
      I can recommend trying this way.
      Best of luck with it.
