I've got one over on you, Coach...thanks to knuckle pushups and starting karate at age 9, I can hit the heavy bag or even a cement wall or tree- with bare hands and not get a scratch. 30 years of no hand wraps and only one minor sprain that happened when I was drunk
@@HulkVahkiin Complete bull all 😙 Why so many Muay thais sukk in punching then? With that MT front foot tip stance you cant propperly turn and lean into punches. As there are no knees in Boxing you take another stance. maybe the boxer wont make it in MT fight but opposite its often the same.
I was given this advice years ago by an old school boxing coach. It’s a game changer. At first when you’re incorporating this into your game, it can feel awkward and uncomfortable. Just keep at it and it’ll become natural. 💯
It also let's you apply a little bit of psychological pressure with your front foot whilst also being out of range. Oleksandr Usyk is a brilliant case study of this!
This is one of the reasons Canelo was so much more successful in the 2nd GGG fight. He caught G resting on that front leg a handful of times and stole several close rounds on the cards.
It’s all about knowing and understanding POSITIONS In boxing! Coach Ant As usual sharing his wisdom&expertise of the sweet science. Coach Ant has never made a video that I didn’t LOVE AND FIND EITHER USEFUL OR MOTIVATIONAL?!🥊💯💪🥊🧠🧠🧠🧠
I understand did back foot tips champ my boxing coach from Chicago taught me a few tips like yours from when you are tire or just trying to stay in position. Another great gem coach💯💯💯😉
Yeah I get it, I do that too, it's safe and perfect for a counter punchers, transferring a little bit of weight is clever, my sons sparring a kid who's probably 80% weight on the back foot (runs pretty much all the time), his hooks and jabs are very ineffective and all my son has to do is slip his left hand in to counter (opponent is a southpaw),
Completly agree, and i dont know why but my foot work is way better when im more in my back foot.every time i do the opposite i eatca big uppercut on my nose😂thanks 🙏👍
This vid is for me...am like your student. When am tired I put my weight on my lead foot. Plus, when I punch I feel am losing my balance especially if I launch a cross
Yo Coach Anthony, your videos been helping me out tremendously. One thing though, can you drop a video to keep your elbow from flaring out in later rounds of sparring/competition? When I get tired I hear my coach yelling to keep them in when I throw but I place them perfect on my ribs on the return.
Good hint, as it gives beginners like me a bit more of reaction time to see incoming shots. Increases safety zone against pressure fighters. Isn’t it a kind of philly shell position with standard, classic guard?
Hey Coach Ant, thanks for the bomb info and vids you've been putting up. Question: would you say the slight weight shift to the back foot is similar to the weight distribution when one slips to the right? Or is it more backwards like in a pull back? Thanks Coach
I find it really strange that there's so many people in the comments that don't do this... I was taught to never be over my front foot, ever (except after a slip or setting up a lead hook etc). Somewhere between 70% weight on my back foot to 50:50 and that's it.
🙌🙌 this also goes under giving different look, I.e forward lean and weight on bk foot or normal high guard or philly shell, canelo th best in world at it?? Distance deception
Just don’t get caught with a jab when planting on that back foot…usually a cross follows and boom 💥…ur off balance AND taking a straight to the face…be subtle and not over distribute the weight (like Coach A says)
A very good and instructive video coach. However, I want to ask one thing. As a kickboxer, I tend to rotate with both of my feet. I slightly rotate my leading foot as rear one. By doing so I believe I got more momentum from legs so power. I realized that you do not rotate your leading foot. Is it because it's different in boxing, or my technique is nonsense?
I have the opposite problem. Idk if it’s good or bad but I add weight to my back leg and usually it feels like I’ve been using my right foot WAY more than my left
@@menumlor9432 I get it. Because in theory you create your own openings depending on positioning and awareness. I was speaking for a initial stance tho.
In boxing u need to be distributing weight from back foot to front foot to neutral throughout the whole fight this is part of what separates a great fighter and a good fighter
One question coach, is this technique more effective for shorter fighters? I mean I´m not too tall or too short I´m 5´10 (1´78) but of course there´s gonna be guys way more taller than me, as well as there´ll be guys shorter, so does this techique work better against taller or shorter guys? Thanks coach!!

does this explain why all those oldschool black and white photos of bare knuckle boxers from 100+ years ago shows them leaning WAY back?
@@buzzkill808raven2 How hard do you hit the bag? That actually helps too for preventing injuries.
Just learned this the hard way in my 1st fight over the weekend.
What happened champ?

At least you learned.
Thats the name of the game. Is the only way to learn in boxing bro. congrats
I love how you demonstrated that fighting off the back foot is simply about weight distribution. Too many people equate it to sticking and moving
Get in a Muay Thai fight and you will never be heavy on the front foot again.
Exactly! 💯
@@danijelbutkovic4441 lets just say if you try pivot for your hooks in a full fight, youre on crutches for a week min
@@danijelbutkovic4441 yup.
That's why Boxers don't get into MT fights. This comment isn't really useful all things considered, but at least it speaks the truth.

This actually helped with sparring today thanks!
Great to hear !
There’s some good Kenny Weldon vids on CZcams that emphasise having your weight over your back foot, well worth a look.
Such a good tip, first thing my new coach made me do when I changed gyms, rear leg weighting and balance
i been trying to explain this to one of my fighters ..im just glad he can also hear this from another coach ..thanks fam.
