  • The third dance theater piece of How we move Su 2023 by @waotmtv8318 and ‪ @hbmedianv on January 25th 2024 in Theater Thalia Suriname: Save our soul, contributing to Sustainable Development Goal SDG 3 Good health and wellbeing on the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with input from Social & Mental Health Suriname.
Lakshini is a clerk at the District Court of Criminal Affairs and has had her own dance school Shringārā Natyalaya since 2016. She started her lessons in the Bharatanatyam dance art under the guidance of guru Kavita Ramphal in the ballet hall of Theater Thalia. She also took lessons at the Artlab Suriname Foundation and Madhoerie Dance School, under the guidance of guru Smt. Madhurie Jagmohan, where she took part in several major dance productions in Suriname and once in the Netherlands. In 2015 she became a teacher at Artlab.Sr and in 2016 she gave her arangetram, graduation lecture. She performed her first theater performance with her dance school in 2019 and in 2023 her second major production was during the celebration of 150 years of Hindustani Immigration in Suriname. Her dream is to reach the point of true cultural integration in Suriname with regard to the dance traditions of the various population groups; an occasional 'alakondre' - dance where people dance to each other's style of music - is a good start, but not where we need to be. She wants to work intensively on this unity of culture in the near future. Her piece is called 'Save Our Soul' and is about intergenerational trauma, feelings that have been (un)consciously transferred to the next generation and subsequent generations, with the aim of raising awareness about awareness of a possible problem that requires psychological or psychiatric guidance and mobilizing to seek that help to get rid of the trauma, resulting in a peaceful, harmonious society. Lakshini's piece is about Zaraï, who has undergone a traumatic experience and has not processed this trauma. She takes this traumatic baggage with her into her life. She is a mother in the making and leads a life full of sadness, despair, distrust and setbacks until she no longer sees fit and reaches her lowest point. Then she discovers that help is coming from around her. That gives her the strength to work on her own recovery to get rid of her trauma.
