"We can't just run to big brother" claims Marcos Jr. on US Support against China

- In an exclusive interview with Bloomberg News' Haslinda Amin, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr speaks about rising tensions in the South China Sea and the risk of further confrontation with China. He says the Philippines must protect their national interests.
Looking at some of these comments, it’s so easy to talk about war but I sincerely doubt any of these people commenting have actually ever SEEN real war or its aftermath. Compromise is essential in this particular matter, violent conflict can be avoided in this circumstance.
Nope, compromise doesn't work with china they're too arrogant and proud! They misinterpret compromise as a sign of concession, that's what happened to our foolish ex-president Rodrigo Duterte who thought befriending China would make them leave our EEZ, instead China interpreted our openness and friendliness to the Chinese as concession of our claims over our own eez, Imagine requiring us to ask for China's permission who's nearest coastline is over 800 miles away from our 200miles EXCLUSIVE economic zone! China is not to be trusted. Never again!
Absolutely... Nevermind the LBM team... They just love's to bark everywhere.
I'm from the Philippines and in my opinion, those people who wants to war with China immediately are the people who will run first.
Even you also
We fight and you are troll
Marcos and cronies would just fly out of the country during wartime. 😂😂😂😂
‘We can’t just run” but there are military exercises currently ongoing with the US in the Philippines? That contradicts his statement.
It means Philippines has a big stick in it's hands to hits back china, if ever they escalate the tensions

Investors became vendors to invaders
During World War II, many Chinese sought refuge in the Philippines to escape the conflict in their homeland. After the war, the two countries maintained diplomatic relations. However, historical events should not be used to justify unfounded territorial claims. The issue of sovereignty in the South China Sea should be resolved through international law and diplomacy, respecting the rights and interests of all nations involved.
From your information, as if the Philippines is free from the invasion of the Japanese Army...

The Philippines GDP has now become the 4th largest in the ASEAN Region after Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore.
It jumped 2 places from 6th in 2022, overtaking Vietnam and Malaysia.
Based on projections, the Philippines GDP is on track to become the next billion-dollar economy after indonesia in the ASEAN Region.
From being considered as the Sick Man of Asia for decades, the Philippines is now the economic growth leader in the region.

MORE ON TALKING RATHER THAN MODERNIZATION OF ITS DEFENSE.
the problem is the US lost in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Ukraine
A "mutual defence treaty" is just a door or avenue for two parties to work together how to deal with any aggressíon.
I beleive US and the Philippines obviously is mutually working together to address the threat, through social, economic and enhance military cooperation. And this is the essence of Mutual Defense Treaty at different level.
For many, it has been perceived that inviting US and like minded allies means preparing for war, but is not. Its purpose is to prevent war not to provoke. On the other hand it is as well a defensive stance.
I beleive both use "Cooperation" instead of highlighting MDT in such efforts to settle escalation.
Wla na sa tamamg pag iisip...

The past Philippines presidents have been like this: Pro China, pro US, pro China, pro US. The Philippines will be lost if they don't take a stand😂

Really good answers BBM. I did not vote for you but you're way, WAY better than duterte
The notion of being "brother nations" overlooks the historical realities of colonialism and unequal power dynamics between the US-Phil. The recent portrayal of us as "brothers" primarily stems from geopolitical rivalries with China and their economic interests. Unfortunately, more than 90% of Filipinos are naive enough not to understand this. History repeat itself.
True. Those 90% is also blindly let vietnam does its coastal bases in the spratlys, which they are the most aggressive interms of expansion.
Ship are not unsinkable Philippine need to buy land base anti ships from Japan, US and Israel
another Ukraine.. fooled by American interest
This is Philippines interest our islands our fish, our natural resources is claimed by china by thousands of kilometers away from their homeland and eez. U stulid or a chinese bots?
Cry china
Thats a daft view of geopolitics. So what youre suggesting is for the ph to just give up on their sovereign rights? Us allies work with the us because they share the same geopolitical interests. Its easy to dimiss these minor partners as vassals, its just a convenient cop out to ignore the reason why these conflicts are happening because of neo imperialist countries like china and russia going for illegal land grabs against smaller neighbors.
china will be another russia.. the whole world is seeing its downfall.
Unbelievable...
What is the use of US forces in the Philippines if we are not going to use it. US forces presence here is futile if its not for war preparation. If we are not seeking for military confrontation to get back spratlys island occupied by Chinese and the PH EEZ then US forces should not be here. Let the bullying continues and the fishermen's suffering be exacerbated not to mention our rights to explore and exploit natural resources in our EEZ. What a big BS! What is that, just a show of force and bragging that big brother US is in our side. Its still futile, look at the bullying. Damn it!
The US and the Philippines already signed a permanent military defense treaty back in the 50s which allows immediate interventions of the US in case of the Philippine invasion just like in Japan. According to the treaty, the US is obliged to defend the Philippines in case of invasion but only for defense if the Philippines wasn't invaded there's no need for military intervention from the US cleaning the mess is up to us which is why we need to also strengthen up the treaty was the reason why the Aquino administration didn't take to strengthen the military seriously. Well that's our only advantage the Philippines didn't become like Ukraine because they don't have any defense treaty from the US and the west. And the US has already done enough to support the Philippine military they spend more than $600 million dollars on the Philippine military, health and education facilities for the local to also use it and provide jobs. And add another payment to the Filipino Government on allowing them to place their militaries across the island. China wouldn't even pay us cents in placing their militaries in our EEZ. Be grateful that they already done enough. The US has their own problems and we might not be their most priority but they have the right to put their priorities 1st in their country than others. The only people that can save the Philippines are the Filipino people. If you want to blame something, blame the real problems like why the previous administration didn't take this matter seriously
Throw a tantrum or Complaint anywhere you want but you must understand that we cannot RISK a confrontation with China without the matter of putting 114 Million Innocent Civilians in Danger. You must understand that the Sole purpose of USA soldiers stationed in the Philippines is to halt China's advancement in taking more lands in the West Philippine Sea and put them in check. The USA and China Confrontation is not just a typical Regional Level, it's an International Level staking Billions of population.

Will the USA be willing to risk losing 1 carrier in support of Philippines fishing boats and reef? Considering Philippines unlike Taiwan has no TSMC of value to USA
Taiwan also had no TSMC when the US Navy went to the Taiwan Strait in the 1950s, when China was attacking them.
South Korea had no TSMC, when the US and friends defended them from North Korea in the 1950s.
Ukraine also has no TSMC.
For years, China has been trying to convince people to not trust the USA and their allies and that they can't be relied on.

America has a long history of abandoning their allies and losing wars anyhow - best not to rely on them😮
Well said.
Reported for missinformation and hate.
They wouldn't dare lol. The moment they abandon the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, and Australia will take note, reconsider the value of their alliance and arm themselves with Nuclear weapons especially since they are next to Nuclear powers; North Korea, China, and Russia. Even China wouldn't want US to abandon the Philippines because that would result in Nuclear arms race in their own backyard
America wins the wars it wants to win (WW1, WW2). It has lost the peace and hearts and minds (Afghanistan) or it has lacked the will (Vietnam) which requires long term occupation and pacifying of a population or democracy-building. This would not be that. It would be China launching an invasion of Taiwan or South China Sea territories. It would just see the US degrade then destroy the Chinese navy and other assets in the region.

Yes Uncle sam of the Philippines the united state of Philippines the old ally of the Philippines
While Marcos may make such assertions, his associates are actively working to advance their agenda. In contrast to his late father, his administration appears less assertive, with limited influence over others. There's widespread skepticism regarding the Unity Team's messaging, as many perceive Marcos and his associates as leveraging their positions for personal gain. Concerns persist that they may exploit the situation to prolong their stay in power, pursue changes to the constitution to serve their interests, and potentially exploit crises to justify Martial Law. Marcos's actions seem to diverge from his electoral promises, prompting scrutiny from the public. As they said, "How can you trust a leader with frozen assets in the United States?"
Such assumptions. Care to back it up with facts?
eh? really?
Weird, because all I see the legislative body even adjusted the Armed Forces and Coast Guard's budget to address the issue, create laws to encourage defense self reliant, support on international military alliance (like RAA w/ Japan), and so on. They're very vocal against China's aggression. So I don't know if you're referring to the VP's silence as "Unity Team's messaging". Its obvious that majority of Filipinos don't trust China also, so don't sit well if you keep on supporting or mum on China's aggression.
