I listened to this song on repeat when my adult son was so angry with me, he shut me out of his life. We started emailing each other and I sent him this video. We reunited shortly after. I’ll always love him, unconditionally.

When I was 6, my biological father announced he was gonna leave me and my mother. After the long and painful process of him leaving, another situation that was just as bad started when my mother was heartbroken for years. She said she always wanted me by her side. I never left her. I never went to my dad. And above all else, I never lost faith. I always heard this song along with others on her vehicle radio just after my father left. Songs such as, Better Than Me by Hinder, Second Chance by Shinedown, Use Somebody and Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon and amongst others. Those were very painful and troubling time indeed. I now know at 19 years old what my mother was going through. I’ve never been in a relationship before but if people got past my physical appearance and looked deep inside to what really matters in a person, I’m a gentle hearted man. If you took the time to read my parents divorce story, I give you my thanks, friends.
You went through hell and back man, I myself can say that you truly area person of heart. I have nothing but respect for you, being by your mother through those times meant the world to her, you truly are a person of character.

i've struggled with severe depression for years. i used to love music and found myself at a time where i absolutely hated it. shinedown got me back into my love for music. brent and the whole band are ridiculously talented. i've been revived lately. thank you. without your music i would be dead today.

@2:57 My favorite part of the song is how the music becomes slightly acapella after the lyrics, “You help me live and learn.” Even though it’s the lyrics of the chorus, the acapella and basic chords create emphasis on Brent’s voice so your ear really focuses on his voice. Then when it goes “I toss and turn like the sea.” the drums are so much more intense making the listener know this is the peak of the song. Sometimes, I do an intense drum session with my hands when I’m listening to that piece because it’s that intense and profound. This is my personal favorite song in terms of those progression of sounds at the peak.

He would go to chemotherapy and come home and we would sit for over an hour or more and listen to Shinedown CD’s. Listening to their music got him through so much.
Don't loose anyone else, it's highly not necessary. It happens largely by the treatments.

Around a month ago me and my girlfriend broke up. Days later, like not even a week later this was the same calendar week, I lost my grandma due to stage 4 cancer. This song has gotten me through so many tough times. The line “if you only knew how I refuse to let you go even when you’re gone” says so much more than what I could ever say. Shinedown gets me through so much and I can’t wait to see them live in Savannah this April

Brent Smith vocals aren't like anyone I've ever heard. To personally just hear him sing. He's raw talent just his voice is AMAZING. Used to be in another band that didn't go anywhere so he went to become a studio musician sing for bands that didn't have a singer and that's where the original bass player Brad found each other was in the studio and created the original Shinedown.... Those four guys could send chills up and down your spine when they performed. The privilege of meeting these guys and getting to know these guys as they were passing out the first demos after the opening for Saliva. I have a ton of memorabilia cuz I've seen them every time they performed in a close by area. Even never seen them I suggest buy tickets and go. you won't be disappointed! #Shinedown

I saw them right before I left for basic training. I broke down when they played second chance, 45, and simple man. In that order. I was crying the rest of they’re set. They are just amazing and have saved my life on more than one occasion.

saw them at Rocklahoma night before last and they were PHENOMENAL. Brent Smith was honestly so uplifting. Gave inspiration with his words in between songs. Stopped mid show just to tell the crowd to shake each other's ands and meet each other. It was honestly amazing.

Just saw them in Lincoln, Nebraska last week and we already have tickets to see them in Kansas City, Missouri in September. They are amazing performers and even better people. They are real champions of mental health, which is something this world desperately needs.

Lost my mom Oct 25 2022. She was stopped on back of motorcycle with her bf waiting to turn in driveway. Literally. While waiting someone came from behind not paying attention to see there's a motorcycle waiting to turn. Turn signals work lights on bike work. Hit them about 45 in a 35 speed zone. She more than likely passed on impact. Everyday is a struggle. Gotta keep a strong face for all the people to see while I'm broken in pieces inside. Songs like these are what gets me thru the day. Thru most days.

This is my official song for when I'm underway on a submarine. I listen to it and think of home and my family. And there are some nights I can't sleep underway. When my mom and I saw Shinedown in concert, they played this song and the both of us teared up while it played. When it finished we were both holding each other and over the cheers of the audience I told my mom "I love you mom." And she said back "I love you too."

I confess that one of the multiple reasons why I enjoy listening to multiple songs by Shinedown is that the band is able to create both love songs and songs touching on other themes of life with heart-string pulling and captivating emotion. I have been previously familiar with this song for multiple years because the song eventually grew on me after a certain amount of times hearing it on an Orlando Florida radio station around the 2009 timeframe (the area I was living in at the time). At least part of this meaningful and mesmerizing love song appears to be about someone sharing about missing another person more than they know and how that person's memory stays on their mind a great deal. I intend to enjoy the next Shinedown concert I go to regardless if this song If You Only Knew is played at the concert, however I admit that I hope that this is one of their songs that is featured on their concert song.

I love Shinedowns music. When I saw this video it reminded me of my love, 30 yrs together ( give or take a month or two) but when I saw this it reminded me of him. He was a Iron Worker for 40 yrs. He Loved his job. He continued to work even after retirement. So seeing them on the iron along with the song has So Much meaning & brings back So Many Memories.
