I am obsessed with how you react!!! You aren’t overdramatic when you’re impressed and it’s so nice to just witness you experience the music - that’s my the biggest reason I watch music reactions (to feel like I’m sharing music I like with a new friend and I want to know your authentic and true reaction!). I love too how you break down the production and talk about what you like about it. The way you caught onto the fact that this is a concept album just after track 2 really shows you’re really actually paying attention and aren’t just doing it for the video. Thank you for this - seriously. You’re authentically reacting and YouTubing second. Most have it the other way around. Bravo sir! 🎉

The entire tracklist and story feels like the endless loop one might fall into from 18 to 20 when they can now drink and drugs are made available. I'll say that the older i've gotten since 2017 when the album came out, the more i've related to it. Lorde was way ahead of her time with this album, her writing is incredible and the sound fits what she was capturing.

I'm a Kiwi living in Aotearoa New Zealand, thanks for your review of Lorde's Melodrama. I'm a huge Lorde fan. Your review 'format' is refreshing, less interruptions, listening to individual tracks followed by an insightful analysis of each song. I like how you show the lyrics on screen, Lorde is as much a poet as she is a singer, artist and producer. The lyrics on Melodrama show cases Lorde's amazing storytelling ability with the maturity of a seasoned poet... Lorde released her debut album "Pure Heroine" when she was 16 (2013) and 11yrs on its still holds up and has inspired artist like Billy Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo. David Bowie referred to Lorde as "the future of music" I look forward to seeing more of your reactions. :)

    Hey! Here some notes:
    - The album is a whole concept. Lorde uses a party as a metaphor for a relationship and “Green Light” it’s the prologue of the story. She knows that she need to let him go, but she’s not ready.
    - We can divide the album in three parts: The beginning of the relationship/the party (Sober, Homemade Dynamite and The Louvre), The end of the relationship/ the Hangover (Liability, Hard Feelings/Loveless, Sober II and Writer in the Dark) and the Nostalgia / the Memories of the party (Supercut, Liability Reprise and Perfect places)
    - The “Violence” mentioned in ‘The Louvre’ it’s a metaphor: He makes her so exited that her hart beats ‘Violent’, so the violence throughout the album refers to the intense things. Also, one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL AND UNDERRATED lines in the whole album is: “But we’re the greatest, they’ll hang us in the Louvre, down the back, but who cares- still the Louvre”… back in the French Revolution (1792/1795) in the Louvre, traitors were punished by hanging them (Down the back). So she uses that line not only to say that their relationship is as beautiful as a work of art worthy of being displayed in the Louvre, but also to say that she feels like a traitor for choosing to spend time with her loved one and not with her friends. (“Blow all my friendships to sit in hell with you”). And the outro is one of te biggest storytellers of the album.
    - Something that is also mentioned a lot during the album is "the summer", being another metaphor for a relationship: warmth, fun, spontaneity, etc. and when this relationship ends "the winter" or “the cold” is mentioned as in 'Liability' or 'Hard Feelings'.
    - In my personal opinion “Perfect places” it’s a Anthem to youth, banal problems and spontaneity. a jewel.

Lorde was 16 whe her debut album became a smash hit and she was suddenly travelling around the world, etc. Once she got back home to Aotearoa she was immediately broken up with (I gather her partner didn't want the shit that comes with dating a pop star). This album came out just under four years later so she would have been 19-20.
