- I actually own 2 Riverside Touring bikes. The 920 I rode the southern part of the European Divide Bikepacking Trail on this year and a 520 that I originally bought as a commuter but has slowly become a classic touring bike.
I have Riverside 500 bike for touring and i am very happy with her....! Nice video...!😍
Thanks!
I have now sold the 920 and kept the 520... Really enjoying it!
Good!
Thanks!
Have the blue one its great for the price
Hi! Have you seen the surly corner bar. I have one in a specialized sirrus híbrid bike and its amazing.
Yeah, I would like to try the corner bar!
Is there anything similar to Riverside 520? What are the alternatives that have equal pannier bag space?
Hi there
Thank you for the video about the two bikes. I got hold of a Riverside 920 Touring this summer. I already changed the handlebars for a Ritchey Beacon 56cm. It fits me a lot better! Which brand for the cassette did you buy? Because i want to change that as well. Except for the chain did you need anything else? Thans for a replie. Greetings from Switzerland🖐
I fitted a 11-46 from Microshift. It is not technically completely correct as I believe it has slightly different cog spacing from the original SRAM cassette, but it is working great. Shifts are crisp and clean and I hope it will continue working well as it gets more miles on it. I haven't changed anything else and so far it works great.
Thank you for the replie!
Intrigued now...I can see a Great Divide ride coming up?
I hope to do a Great Divide ride in the not to distant future, but that is not what I was hinting at...
:)
Cool video, I've also got a RT920 and it's interesting to see your configurations. Is the microshift cassette still serving you well?
I have actually sold the 920 but had no problems with the cassette while I had it and the new owner has had no complaints.
Hi, Great review.
I think you can help me.
I'm retrofitting my e-bike for long touring with heavy loads and considering the replacement of the current suspension fork for one rigid one like the Riverside 520 (aluminium) or the Riverside 920 (carbon/aluminium).
I aim to buy the carbon one but I fear it is not a good idea for a heavy load bike, although specification says it can carry 20 kgs.
What is your experience with both forks.
Thanks for your thoughts.
I would go for the aluminium version for an e-bike. Just seems like you would have a greater peace of mind with that, especially if you are going to be loading up with a bit of gear.
Great review.
Can 2.1 MTB tires fit the 520 without the fender?
Yeah, no problem at all. I have 2,2 inch tires on mine at the moment!
Great video, I have been thinking of buying the 520 now for weeks. I wasn't sure about the drivetrain and the breaks. I would like to use it for commuting and 4 weeks bike tours around Europe. What do you think?
I think it would be a great buy for that. It's great value and my bike has been a good commuter and I would not hesitate to take it out on a longer tour.
@@wombat.vision Thanks Wombat, one more expert advice, the microshift and the brakes, do they work well enough for my purposes? I would use the bike also to commute to work.
They should work without a problem!

Hi, do you know if RT520 front rack fits to RT920's fork?
Did you load RT920 fork with the panniers?
I believe it might fit but I would not recommend it. The carbon fork is not rated for that sort of load and I would recommend smaller solution, like cargo cages.
Did you find the load limits for RT920 fork? I know that alu is more safe, but if they did these mounting spots in RT920 and have the rack in the offer I thought it works...
@@ukaszopaek9159 I remember seeing the load limit but don't remember where. It was not as high as the load limit for the rack.
Interesting. I like hybrids but would love to make the jump into full on touring.
The 520 is totally capable of full touring. I like the option to fit large MTB sized tires if needed.
Wonder if I could get the 520 here in the US
I’m not sure what is available in the USA, even here in Europe it can be very difficult to get hold of the different Riverside models!
how are the hunt rims so far? what happened with Rene's tires? thanks
I have used the Hunt rims for a while, but on my Kona Libre rather than the Riverside. They have been great and make the bike feel a bit more lively but I am not sure I would use them on a longer bikepacking trip as I am not sure they are strong enough. Not really a fault of the rims but more that I weigh a bit much and with a bit of equipment along as well, I tend to be rather hard on rims. I managed to crack the Riverside 920 rear rim as well as the rear rim on my Surly Troll when I did my longer trip down to Italy, along the Trans Germany Bikepacking route.
I am still using one of the Rene tires on my city bike but the other is worn out.
@@wombat.vision pretty insightful, thank you
How did you install rhe USB? Please
The USB charger came installed and ready to use on the 920. It is easy to mount as it fits in the fork tube, all it needs is a star nut with an opening for the cable to pass through and then the charger replaces the ahead set top cap.
Great review, i bought the 520. Where did you buy the dynamo usb cable ?
Thanks.
I just modified the one I had from my Riverside 920 Touring.
It should also be possible to modify the one that is fitted on the 520 as well.
@@wombat.vision how did you do this?
I just sliced into the longer dynamo cable and connected the light in parallel. When charging, I just turn the light off.
Hallo what's size is riverside touring and how tall are you?
It is a Large and I am 183 cm tall.
Hope that helps!
@@wombat.vision Thanks
Where did you get the cycle to charge cant find it on Decathalon site
It came with the bike!
So, did you sell them yet?
I've sold the 920, still have the 520...
It is still for sale though, as I have another couple of projects on the go.
Impossible to buy one, absolutely broken stock.
Yeah, they seem very hard to get hold off...
Seems to be a problem with the whole industry, one that I hope ends very soon!
