Steven Pasquale's voice is just something else. He has the range of a tenor and yet, in his tone, I can also feel the warmth and depth of a baritone. Outstanding performance by two very talented actors.

When I hear Steven do this, he's got the quintessential tenor timbre: nice and bright with a hint of nasality and forward sound. If you're interested in a tenor who really sounds like a baritone when performing this, I'd look into the Joshua Henry + Jessie Mueller recording of this czcams.com/video/mc4_6z8JsrQ/video.html. Juxtaposing these two versions is a great way to see the effects of vaulting your vocal space. (I'm sure Steven could sound like that too if he chose to ... most any of us who have had extensive vocal training can change our timbre like that.)

I'd love to be able to see the entire play and purchase the album as this is my favorite Rogers & Hammerstein musical. But, I'm grateful that I came across it and can return to this slice of the play that takes me away. I'm not an expert, I just go by the ability that these two have to move me.

I thought that she was too old to play a believable Julie. Just her body language and the strength of her gaze made it hard to accept her as the poor, ignorant waif Julie Jordan. Of course if this had been a full run she would have improved in that role just as she has improved in Kiss Me, Kate. I was at the first preview of that show so I see how she has developed in the role.

They're both stellar performances brought forth decades apart and we might not even have the modern variations if never given the strong foundation of the originals.

I was in an 11th grade high school performance of Carousel back in 1966 as a part of theater arts study in an advanced placement program. I played The Storekeeper/Doc Sheldon. We staged it, cast it, lit it, costumed it and performed it in a 9' x 18' space in the classroom. One of my classmates was a talented pianist/accompanist. We put on 3 shows. Watching and hearing this brought back a flood of 57 year-old memories. I was in the midst of my first love at the time and surely was caught up in the romance between the characters. Everyone should be in Carousel. I have seen it on Broadway, a concert performance at The Hollywood Bowl and the movie, of course.

Beautiful! Her voice is so sweet and pure and I just LOVE his expressions...so natural and easy, like he's not acting at all. At 1:36 and then at 2:09, his stance and expression are reminiscent of Stanley (Brando) for a few seconds in the scene where he meets Blanche for the first time in Streetcar.

I come back to this video often. One of the best performances I've ever watched. Laura and Steven's chemistry is stunning. And Steven's acting is a prime example of what it's like to have complete control over a character. Amazing.

Agree. Great performances. But the material is also magical. Hammerstiein's intense yet intimate lyrics that all the while are telling a story. Every word and syllable is precise.. This is sweet yet passionate and a very human drama. And every nuance of the lyrics are magnified by Rodgers perfect melodies and harmonies. "I'd let my golden chances pass me by" Are there sadder words than these? and the last 3 words are 3 heart-breaking chords. Musical drama at its finest. This may R&H's best work. These two performers seem to really understand the dramatic nature of this work. Their beautiful voices "act" the music. Truly lovely.

These two...there are no words.... Both overly talented, pulling us in to their story with their acting. The voices of these two should never leave Broadway, as Broadway would never be the same without them!
