You get to these reviews really quickly! I just picked this up based on a posting yesterday from Indiginus and the Sonic Scores video---but your walkthrough should be the one that they are using to promote this product. Your channel has become my first stop for orchestra, percussion, and developer library/instrument reviews. Thank you.
I met with the developers behind Amadeus, Overture, and other products (various companies) a couple years ago. Great folks who love what they do. I'm happy to see that Amadeus got a solid review. I'm not a user myself (my workflow is always up in the air with most libraries), but it seems to be a decent laptop-friendly library for Kontakt. It certainly suites RPG games and remixes really well.
Thank you, this helped me enormously. I had bought this, largely on the strength of this review. Having bought it though, I instantly regretted it - when I played it, it really wasn't what I had expected. I cursed myself for a snap decision made based on the fact that it was inexpensive, and resolved not to make such impetuous decisions again. However, having now watched several other of your video reviews, I've really come to trust your opinion, so came back and watched this video again. It did not sound like the same library! So, I opened up the library again and started playing. That's when I realised my mistake. Unlike you, I had been playing each patch chordally - this how I like to play with other libraries (eg those I have from spitfire, such as Albion One, Tundra, BDT and Earth). For some reason, chords sound great on these, and whilst I might have expected that the solo instruments in Amadeus would not sound good using this approach, I guess I didn't give it much thought for the ensembles, and just played the same way. I don't know why, but I really don't like the sound when using chords in this library, unlike the others I mentioned, but then I played in individual lines, and it sounds so much better. I should have watched your video more closely. I totally agree with your conclusion: it's not the high end, but neither is the price, and it's actually really quite good, so I no longer regret the purchase. Thank you again - your reviews are incredibly helpful.
Easy mistake to make. I learned this somewhere between the hard way and from watching a vid from a real orchestral composer pointing out this very thing: that one violin is really only playing one note so why hammer down massive Prog Rock Chords? I applied it to my synth sounds and suddenly my compositions sounded so much more lively. I can spread that chord across several different players and the sound is bigger. :-)
Finally got this library after months of deliberating. It's pretty wonderful for a first all-in-one orchestral library. The sound far exceeds its price, and it's very fun to sketch with. I'll definitely hang onto it until I have the experience and funds to move onto something like Nucleus.

I use it to play with a MIDI guitar, as I'm not a keyboard player, and the patch I use the most is Symphony, wich can be customized to change at certain pre-chosen intervals, and without even touching the VST! If any of you have some ideas, please let me know, as this is one very useful tool for a guitar player! Cory, I would have loved if you could expland on the "APC" tool inside the Symphony patch.
I like your demonstration. simple and on point, no BS. Could you recommend any sources or books to read and improve my midi scoring skills and get more realistic sounding projects?
I haven't really had a good look around for information like that, but I'm sure you can find some good sources by searching CZcams. There are a handful of composers who post videos about midi scoring so I'd start there.
Hello... Thanks for this video. I have one question. How can I configure the "expression" of this library in studio one. I just know to config the "modulation"...
13:45 I absolutely adore that woodwind bit (and would love to learn how to make something like that...) Any ideas where I could find more of that type of music?
Such a good, no-nonsense review! Love to see somebody approach sound libraries from a different perspective (with most other people exclusively interested in the realism of orchestral libraries). Have you ever handled Halion Symphonic Orchestra? I really like the synthetic quality older libraries like Peter Siedlaczek's orchestra provide, and although I trialed HSO a long time ago I don't really remember it. Do you have any opinions on the library?
Like many noobs, I bought this library thinking it would be a good intro/starter, not realising that it was much more than the sum of it's parts. I'm also probably not alone in still not really having good enough knowledge to exploit it's potential. Then watching this video for the 'I don't know how many'th time' it struck me as perhaps an idea to see if you'd be open (Possibly with the developer's blessing, and help) to do some tutorials on how to orchestrate with the library, and to really play to it's strengths. An idea might be to make it project-based, so the pupil can follow along in the recreation of a few example projects, in a few different genres. In this way, we also get to learn general orchestration practices from a master. Perhaps it could be crowd-funded, or released as private videos/streams to a certain Patreon-funding tier. And perhaps the developer might be happy to give a little discount for people buying the library with the intention of taking the course. Such a low-cost level-of-entry for the software and the know-how. If it were not possible for you to commit to such a course, perhaps consider selling the midi scores to some projects. Yuri Wong, here on CZcams, does some really good movie score recreations using just the 'stock' Logic Pro instruments (He has a playlist for the Logic Pro stuff), and he sells those project files, along with the presets/channel-strip settings for (I believe it's) $5, on Gumroad. At the point of writing this comment (Feb 10th 2020), the video has 40,988 views, and is by a wide margin your most popular video. Certainly seems like there could be quite a lot of interest. Anyway! Not wanting to make too many assumptions about your personal/private life, whether you'd have the time, or even the inclination. Just thought i'd put it out there. Please take it in the spirit intended. Thanks for everything you do. All the best!
Hey man I'm evaluating my first library buy. I already own BBC discover and all the free stuff which is available with kontakt player. I'm mainly into trailer music. Sometimes ago I've had the chance to use a workstation with Jaeger on it, and I felt in love with it. I don't have the cash for it, so I was looking for some cheaper alternatives and this one looks very comprehensing ( and it's on top of my budget). Do you suggest It against nuclues lite, which is not Jaeger from what I hear, but I could bypass the ensembles problem with the single section by spitfire BBCso discover?
I wouldn't say this is a tool for trailer composition. For that you'd be better off with something like Nucleus Lite or Orchestral Essentials from Project SAM (which I've used quite a bit in the past).
When everyone in the orchestra came down with a terrible cold that shut down their throats and their ears and have the recording engineer put everything on auto, set the limiter to the max and left the room. You're way better off with Miroslav Philharmonic 2 in that price range.
It sounds good! I tend to like these smaller libraries that are usable and straight to the point. Starting to use those 50 to 100 gb libraries less and less.
Yeah, I've managed to thin my collection down to 5TB, but there will always be a handful more big libraries coming out, so inventory management is key.
Hey!! great video, as always mr Cory. I just want to know how many round robins the short articulations have. and are you using reverb in this video or this is the "out of the box" sound?
How are you putting vibrato on the end of woodwind notes? Please let me know if you have time.. I have both Nucleus Lite and BBC Discover, and I cant do that...…. Thank You
Darn, I have dozens of great orchestral libraries, but I think I'm getting this too! Very nice! Variety is the spice of life, right! Would this compliment, say, NI Orchestral instruments from the Komplete 12 CE bundle?
All of it being amazing, I believe if this library carried one more thing, it would've knocked everyone out of the park: which are string runs in detache and legato mode.
I'm tired of people calling this only a sketching orchestra (which oddly, this review does and even the company does...doesn't exactly make for a ringing endorsement)...you can do some very good FINAL work with this orchestra. yes, there are better libraries with more features, but you'd have to spend a ton more and the difference is not night and day at least not for the main orchestral instruments. I don't think the choir and guitars are very good at all but I didn't need that, I needed an orchestra
People will buy pro software for films and television for home movies and CZcams projects its fine. Starting out when you don't have a lot of money it's also fine.
Would you recommend this orchestra for someone searching for a lightweight library for film scoring? I have the Film Score Companion from SONiVOX and was wondering how this library will be layered with the SONiVOX library for added depth. Thanks
Yeah it's definitely a good choice for all round stuff at a cheap price, especially if you plan on using the more simple articulations. In my opinion it's great to just have regardless because of how affordable it is. It'll always come in handy one way or another.
@@CoryPelizzari I'm actually looking for something with dynamic cross-fading and legato patches. The FSC lacks both and it makes transitioning from one chord to the other quite jarring! Thank you for the reply!
@@sayandas27 If legato patches is what you're after then Albion, Metropolis Ark, Symphobia 2 or Jaeger will be your best bet for all-in-one libraries. Just remember when you want legato things start to get expensive.
@@CoryPelizzari Thank you for the suggestions. The libraries you mentioned are priced in or around $500 which makes them quite expensive. So, I need to start saving up and/or wait for the Black Friday sales. I did come across a library called Da Capo by Sonokinetic which has dynamic cross-fading and legato. With a price tag of €200 (still needs to be on sale for me to afford it though) seems like a better bet for someone like me who is not a professional musician/composer. Again, Thank you for the replies :)
Some of the brass has too much shine/high frequency which makes it sound like an 80's synth. But honestly, for the price...oh and apparently we can tune up or down the low and high ends
What would you recommend out of these three? 1.Nucleus Lite 99$(offers upgrade at crossgrade price to Nucleus) 2. Amadeus Symphonic Orchestra 149$ 3.Sonokinetic Da Capo (it's on sale for 120€ at the moment). Which one has better sound/expression?
I've heard good things about Diamond Symphony Orchestra by Kirk Hunter. It normally costs 499 but now seems to be often (permanently?) available for 99. Wondering if that one might beat Amadeus in terms of quality / quantity / beginner-friendlyness.
Kirk's stuff isn't always easy to use, but it is affordable (the reason it's affordable is because it's very outdated, but if you don't mind some rough edges then it's fine). PS - NiceName you_got_there
That harp sound is actually really nice, the guitar and soprano solos where also pretty good. The electric guitar was a standout in being absolutely horrible.
@@CoryPelizzari What about using this for symphonic metal/prog rock? Have you advice for me for low budget? Is it usable for metal orchestration aswell? Or sth diffrent?
@@LeeNashMusic For metal and prog rock it'll work perfectly fine as long as the focus is on the metal, with the orchestra being the backup sounds. If you're placing the focus on a live orchestral sound with the metal though, you may want to go with something like Symphobia 1 and 2.
@@CoryPelizzari hey, thank you for answering all my messages! If so, how does it stand up against AmadeusSO? I really appreciate your help and dedication to your channel! Subbed! :)
@@LeeNashMusic I think Amadeus is better all round. Garritan was good back when 4 came out and other libraries were highly priced, but nowadays it's not quite as worth the money when compared to things like Amadeus and Symphonic Orchestra Silver, which are both higher quality at a low price.
If its for armature what would it sound like for real composers. No doubt this is the on for me. My Tyross 5 sounds shit compared to this. AMAZING. Thanks for your great help & advise.
Libraries like this have a great place in video game soundtracks. Although a $2000, mockup-quality orchestra assembled from various developers has its own appeal, Indie games sound nice with toy-like orchestras like this. Not everything is about realism. Sometimes it's more important to be concerned about the music.
The purpose of a composition is everything. You could make a song out of hums, tissue paper and twigs - as long as the song has heart and meaning, the tools used are merely a translation of that.
@@CoryPelizzari And I really wish more people understood that and would stop getting caught up in useless realism wars. Can't wait for that Infinite Brass video by the way. Still looking to purchase it but I want to hear it in your hands because you're great at "playing to the samples" for every library.
calling this a "toy-like orchestra" is ridiculous. it sounds very good, very realistic and though there may be better, it's more about superior features than sound of those.
I've just started moving away from ensemble patches, using individual instruments (currently Chris Hein brass compact among others) and playing via Divisimate instead. I'd love to buy Orchestral Tools new Orchestra, but I'm not rich enough. This looks like it may be a poor mans alternative.
But you need kontakt 5.8 or higher although the site says OS X 10.10 will work you can’t get anything higher than 5.6 unless you upgrade kontakt I would love kontakt 6 but then i have to upgrade OS X to 10.11 but then I can’t run pro tools 11 which is very stable for me and I’m not paying monthly for something I own, ratchet up BS
Cory Pelizzari yeah and it’s only gotten worse over time, I run SO4 also and Ableton Live but I was working with ProTools since 5.0 and goy my certification in 2003 with HD so I have a very quick workflow it’s hard walking away after 20+ years but the German tech from Melodyne to Presonus and everything in between can hardly be ignored, very impressive leaps
All my patches didn’t download after attempting several times to resolve; with little to no tech support. It’s only fair to let everyone know what one may encounter purchasing from this company. You’ll have better customer service purchasing from SpitFire Audio.. Facts
Percussion sounds good (with the exception of tubular bells). Strings sounds... ok. Piano, harpsichord sounds good. Acoustic guitar sounds ok. Brass sounds... not very good. Electric guitar sounds terrible, not even close to a guitar, more like a Hammond. Anyway, for the price you get a lot of sounds.
Interesting but... I found this library is not really better than the factory orchestra of kontakt with a good reverb like Reflektor (for the global quality of the sound).
Why everything in this library sound so far away distant sounding.?
I feel the same way when I listen to a live orchestra and sit with the audience rather than next to the instruments.

You can look at my "Soundtrack Picks" playlist or look up soundtracks from the Final Fantasy or Etrian Odyssey series.
I've never used it before. Might give it a try when I get some spare cash.
All the best!
thanks
Spitfire Albion, Project Sam and Mars, Venus from Sound Iron for me, so far, but nice price point
@@CoryPelizzari lmao...
Hey!! great video, as always mr Cory. I just want to know how many round robins the short articulations have. and are you using reverb in this video or this is the "out of the box" sound?
Just out of the box. I'm not sure about the round robins, you may want to ask the developer about it.
@@CoryPelizzari Thank you so much for the swift reply!! I will do that.
I hope you make a video about Chamber Strings if that possible?
How are you putting vibrato on the end of woodwind notes? Please let me know if you have time..
I have both Nucleus Lite and BBC Discover, and I cant do that...….
Thank You
Hmm? The woodwinds were just recorded with vibrato.
How do you change expression and dynamics?
For $150. That is a great Starter Kontakt library.
I know right.
Darn, I have dozens of great orchestral libraries, but I think I'm getting this too! Very nice! Variety is the spice of life, right! Would this compliment, say, NI Orchestral instruments from the Komplete 12 CE bundle?
Yeah it'd definitely add some flavour. The woodwinds are drier than the NI ones.
Wonderful review....is it just a library ...or standalone program?
Just a library for Kontakt.
Does anyone know how this compares to VSL Epic Orchestra 2.0?
All of it being amazing, I believe if this library carried one more thing, it would've knocked everyone out of the park: which are string runs in detache and legato mode.
uhh no. this library is only 10gb. The big dogs are 100-300 GB. little dog cannot even scratch them.
huh, Final Fantasy fan, that explain why you have so great arrangement ability. that game is story with some many beautiful music.
Sephiroth has just entered the chat.....
The library ain't too bad tbh. The choir could use some work but the rest is to a respectable degree, impressive.
Some of my patches aren’t working
How Do I get to the Symphony patch?
nevermind
@@sayandas27 Da Capo seems to be a step up.
Does this library work fully on free Kontakt player 6 without showing its demo ?
Some of the brass has too much shine/high frequency which makes it sound like an 80's synth. But honestly, for the price...oh and apparently we can tune up or down the low and high ends
Garritan Personal Orchestra is also another alternative, GPO5 is $150 as well.
Yes and it sound better than this
@@petertremblay3725 you need to get your ears checked.
@@joe-vz6hx If you know how to make them sound good with plugins it is true.
Wait, so it doesn't have dynamic crossfades? How does it work? Only velocity sensitive?
Yes it does.
@@CoryPelizzari okay cool. I was worried there was no dynamic crossfading 😀
What would you recommend out of these three?
1.Nucleus Lite 99$(offers upgrade at crossgrade price to Nucleus)
2. Amadeus Symphonic Orchestra 149$
3.Sonokinetic Da Capo (it's on sale for 120€ at the moment).
Which one has better sound/expression?
I'd probably say Nucleus Lite because it has a great sound and is quick to compose with, plus you can go for the full version later.
@@CoryPelizzari Thank you!I am going for it.
PS - NiceName you_got_there
I did buy this as a sketchpad, it works well for that, I then use 'EasWest Composer' for final scoring.
Hook! 3:44
Bro really said that $149 is affordable 💀💀💀
how dose it compare to Cinematic Studio Series Strings
Cinematic String is $400
This is $150.
That should answer your question.
That harp sound is actually really nice, the guitar and soprano solos where also pretty good. The electric guitar was a standout in being absolutely horrible.
Ask jeez the woodwinds sound excellent
With the name so close to the movie font I thought it was 18th century instrument reproductions. Still not bad.
Would you still recommend this?
For sketching and character sounds, yeah.
After long back and forth i decided that for me it is important to have full control over the orchestra and have solo instruments available! Even if this clearly sounds worse than other libraries i feel like this is the right choice.
There is just one more little thing i like to ask you: Have you heard about Garritan Personal Orchestra 5? If so, how does it stand up against AmadeusSO?
I really appreciate your help and dedication to your channel! Subbed! :)
@@LeeNashMusic I think Amadeus is better all round. Garritan was good back when 4 came out and other libraries were highly priced, but nowadays it's not quite as worth the money when compared to things like Amadeus and Symphonic Orchestra Silver, which are both higher quality at a low price.
Not playing the woodwind part at 6:22 should be considered a crime
I was going off memory alone and hadn't heard the actual song in, well... Wow, decades literally.
@@CoryPelizzari czcams.com/video/45lNvNsdPLc/video.html
Wow! Why didn't I watch this video all these time
How's the CPU usage?
Fairly good. The combination patches use a lot more CPU but the individual instruments are light.
@@CoryPelizzari Oh alright thanks
If its for armature what would it sound like for real composers. No doubt this is the on for me. My Tyross 5 sounds shit compared to this. AMAZING. Thanks for your great help & advise.
Choir and electric guitar? Did I hear Halo 2?!
That's precisely why I use Windows and Studio One. I can't stand the exclusivity and compatibility chokes with Macs.
I use the electric guitar without any in-built effects and then run it through Logic’s amps and pedals and it can hold itself
6:53 Jaws?
Way out. Nothing remotely to do with Jaws.
Interesting but... I found this library is not really better than the factory orchestra of kontakt with a good reverb like Reflektor (for the global quality of the sound).
Very good but no string harmonics and CS, come on
But it's not free. If it was free then it WOULD be affordable for me.
I take it you went with Spitfire's BBCSO Discover then? How do you like it?
Nice review but sounds a bit dated and not so realistic
sounds really um..........nintendo 64rish
