    Great tutorial. The bit about the Lightness slider in the Hue/Saturation adjustment at the end was a nice little bonus.

    I learnt many new techniques, thank you.
    Please do a video on colourising landscapes and seascapes - they should be of great interest.

    Absolutely brilliant. You'll make retouch artists of us yet! Really, really useful hints and tips and great structure of layers allowing post-edit changes. Landscape version - YES PLEASE!!
    Even better - link to text version!! Thank you!

    At age 83,
    I get picky about what I spend my time on. I've subscribed to many photo videos and keep coming back to yours most times. Thank you for doing what you do. As a teacher (and photographer) you get an A+. Keep up your video teaching and stay safe.

    Thank you so much! That was the best tutorial on this subject I've ever watched. I was able to colorize some old balck and white photographs from my wedding a long time ago!

    Thanks Colin! I learned (or refreshed) too much to list, but +U on the layer to alter the painted color of the sweater was sort of new since I'm so used to adding a new layer for everything I'd forgotten about the adjustment shortcuts that directly affect a layer and in this case it's not really destructive since it can be repeated if you decide to change the color again. Creating a temporary "color palette layer" is also a handy trick to save a specific skin color.

    Super tutorial, probably my favourite of all time. There are many steps, so thanks for your patience. I shall bookmark this. You are again the guru of face painting.
    What opacity of color brush did you use for overall skin as it is perfect?
    Can you please do original drawing (from scratch) with these techniques for character art? You can do anything I believe!
    This man is now a prince of handsomeness.
    I learned so much right now! I will have to watch again.

    Great tutorial! One quick question... On the last step where you colorized the background layer, I didn't notice a selection being made, so why didn't the color changes affect the subject along with the background? I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.

    • @photoshopcafe
      @photoshopcafe  Před 4 lety +1

      Because the background is underneath everything. The first step I cut out and copied the subject to a new layer.

    I'm searching all over CZcams for help on my latest project. I made a ton of black and white pictures except for some reason they printed out with this silvery bluish hue... WHICH I LOVE! Midway through the project my printer ran out of ink...I bought the same ink cartridges, nothing changed with the files themselves and now they are printing out straight black and white NO COOL HUE. I don't know what to do. I've been playing with the levels to try to duplicate and even when it looks right on the screen I hit the print button and it's off. What do I do?!?

    Very cool tutorial. I have inherited a group of b&w images of old Philadelphia scenes/properties which my ancestors occupied over the past century plus. It'd be great to know how to change them to realistic colors as you've done here. Can you help Colin? Some include vintage public transit others Philly countryside that's since become suburban. My family will be very grateful.
