- Reunion review, cooking it properly this time. I tried it back in December 21 and microwaved it and didn't like it. Was told to do it in the oven. Food review. Farmfoods Supermarket. For more reviews click this link. Thanks for watching and subscribing. • Pork
My wonderful Dad loved these every week , until he past away just over a year ago. I don’t eat them anymore , but they bring back memories of eating with him 💙

@@BrianDavies-vh1vd Respect for your dad...
I think the vast majority of stuff that have a choice of oven or microwave, the oven is always best.
absolutely - time versus ting! 😄
The downside of using the oven is that it takes several times longer than the microwave and thus costs more!
air fryers even quicker and better, No wasted heating up first
Most dishes like that which are better out of the oven I transfer the food into an oven and microwave safe dish. I microwave for the full recommended time so its fully cooked and then finish in the oven til it looks nice and crispy.
True, I used to nuke everything because I was impatient but now I'm retired and have an airfryer, I have started cooking "properly" and I'm enjoying meals far more
As a sprog, I used to think these were made of actual brains. Still loved them.
My grandparents used to eat sheep's brains as a delicacy. I remember seeing a bowl of them soaking in gran's kitchen. Don't know how they were cooked.
Perhaps that's why I hate zombie movies
me too
@@michaelhughes7718 mum used to make us kids eat brains, used to chuck up looking at em.
loved your comment "as a sprog " 🤣
Canned pork brains can be found in the US,usually in the heartland ,they are eaten with scrambled eggs.Every youtuber that ever tried them tried to eat them cold out of the can,so of course they were disgusting.
Household favourite..chips and peas ..two bread and butter 👍😊
Mash and peas for me 😊
Being a black country lad, we live on these lol
We Yorkies did too. Ours had everything internal in them. It was called offal. A bit like haggis without the grain.
@@willemslie Yorkies are great chocolate bar none!
@@matthewetheridge4535 Good rich and thick, a milk chocolate brick, each bite a chunky big mouthful 😂
@@willemslie Bit of a faff though and more electricity.
I agree with what you have said once i have eaten a yorkie that's a wrapper!
Never mind the grub , you look absolutely great my friend , refreshed , bright , and totally rejuvenated… well done you ✊🏻🫶🏻
Thank you kindly
I used to love these when I was a kid still have them now and again they bring back some great memories
I like how you call it a “pork dish” in the title. And we all know why. 😂
Because youtube discriminates against the Welsh, where this traditional dish originated 👍
Mr Brain's Fargots
What are Fraggits? @@mancunianinlondon
Divided by a common language. Cigarettes, "meat balls in caul", happy, and purse belts (!), bottoms, etc. Now all our traditional words are censored by USA Amerenglish.
there are 3 dictionary definitions for that word unfortunately YT algorithms only recognise the one that's regarded as an insult, so now we have to describe them as Mr Brain's meat product
I was brought up on Brains as a treat, always enjoyed eating them 🙂
As long as they weren’t Mr Brains brains. 😢
I used to have these as a kid and I have fond memories. I'm so relieved that you tried again and oven baking is the way forward. I must give these another try.
In Yorkshire they are called savoury duck
@@henrywilloughby8333 Indeed they are! I'd forgotten that.
@@mandolinic I used to like them too as a kid. Tried them again recently and they were awful. I'll try them one more time as I made a bit of a mistake with oven temperature but things you like in your youth don't taste the same to you in later life necessarily.
I was given these as a child 60 years ago and I still love em!
I remember seeing these in the supermarket years ago and still can't disassociate the word brains from what is in the packet!
One of our favourite quickie midweek meals with mash and garden peas… delicious… good to see you on the mend 👍
Cheers Roger
RUBBISH! SHOULD BE EATEN WITH PEASE PUDDING (HOMEMADE NOT TINNED) A DELICIOUS MEAL! BUT I WOULD BUY A SIX PACK OF THESE INSTEAD OF A LACK OF TWO - FOR THE SAME COST - TESCO!
Mash and peas for me 😊
better with mash, peas and onion gravy.
Mum used to make us these, when we were kids, as a treat. And we lived in London!! With mash and green beans. So so good.
'Pork dish' mash and peas. Instantly taken back to my childhood. Thank you
Our pleasure!
These are so nostalgic to me because I used to laugh like an idiot as a kid 😊
I've always loved these, and I've always loved honest people. This channel gives me both. I wish you and your family all the luck in the world.
Delightful honesty Gareth. No shame there buddy.
You are a good man gaz bring us lots of joy in them dark day stay strong you are in the peoples army now us
Oh I love these with peas pudding-yum
Or mashed swede.
With pease pudding, absolutely - As Gareth would say " Spot on".
we buy 2 packs of 6, remove 2 from each tray and put in new tray, this gives us three meals .much cheaper than packs of 2 or 4.great with mash and peas. allways done in the sage oven, great meal
My other half eats six at a time
I just cannot believe as a Brit you have never had them before, I grew up on them and my Mrs had them as well. Glad you liked them! Cannot think of a worse way to eat them though, Microwaved Eugh!
Boiled?
I was born, and raised in Birmingham, and I never had these either, and that was a very long time ago.
They were the fast food of the 70s and 80’s growing up in London
I used to love the advert for them as a kid in the early 80’s, my mum used to cook them for dinner with mash potatoes and peas. Loved them back then
we have these for christmas dinner as none of us like turkey, only ever microwaved once they are so much better in the oven
Hahaha
Christmas dinner??😂wtf?
I get you don't like turkey but couldn't you think of something a bit more festive or luxurious .
Thanks.
That gave me a belly laugh.
You must be having us on.
It's about time CZcams grew up. Perhaps they should buy a dictionary. Thanks for this (and all the others).❤
Explain
yes CZcams's kiddy filter is just a simple lookup table of naughty words in what the yanks pass off for the English language. It has no concept of context. Which as we all know is everything.
@@MrDougiew1 Difficult to explain in a way that's acceptable to CZcams. Check what a bunch of sticks used for tinder is called. Check the three letter word used in Britain for cigarette. Check the same three letter word used in public schools in Britain for boys who carry out menial tasks for older boys. Check what Brains call their wonderful pork based product. Then check what that word means in the USA. That's why CZcams needs to grow up.
yes they do not like a word that is used correctly and is the name of a product being used.
Since it has another meaning which is Rude.
There is far too much blocking free speech
I got the same response 🤯
I've walked past these for decades, I now need to try them.
Same
there 6 for £1.50 in aldi, I look after both my parents with dementia and they love these, nice and soft texture for them to eat
So much respect it's a difficult job.
Hi Gareth the comment from Calibrax 30 minutes ago was absolutely SPOT ON, it is the only way to have them. Glad you’re in a much better place, take care. Pack of Brains and some bread dipped in the sauce, gorgeous 😉
Cheers Susan
Good wholesome food for a good wholesome lad😊😊
Cooking things in chef mike usually can make things not as tasty ,oven is always best but 80% of people haven't got time to wait .bet these have helped alot of struggling families put food on table since 1925 .thanks for sharing and a pound wow cheap as chips
Hi. I used to work in the factory in Bristol as a holiday job about 60 yrs ago. I ladled the gravy into the trays! My dear Dad loved them. I didn’t/dont! 😊
staple fodder as a kid, still love them
love the way you decided not to put the real name in the title
im sure youtube's algorithm would of gone mental if you had 😂
It didn't like it last time lol
It would have blocked the vid, try replying here with the correct name..
@@BaldFoodieGuy why am i not surprised. its kind of silly as that word has been used for this pork based product for years before it became a slur word haha
Exactly what I was thinking.
I tried to find a recipe on CZcams for homemade f*gg*ts and received a mild warning about community guidelines, which is complete out of context. Let's hope that maybe someday AI might put some common sense back into their algorithms.
You're absolutely right, if we ever made anything that has meat base gravy in our house it's imperative to company it with mash potatoes socks up the gravy and gives a hearty warm meal, very fulfilling.
do you mean soaks up not pull your socks up haha
@@stitchlover633 whoops, sorry, English is not my first language and I didn't pay attention.
Thats like a passport photo 😂😂
Glad you have given them a second chance Gareth, one of my favourites.
Always oven cook.
Hope you are healing well mate 😁😁👍👍👍👍
Cheers pal 👍
As always butchers ones taste miles better
I was introduced to these about three months back. And to my surprise, I enjoyed them. I always associated this dish with the ones our local butcher made wrapped in some gory looking white stuff! But these are very flavoursome. Good luck at the hospital tomorrow 💕
Thank you
I adore these they take me back to my childhood. Lovely. Shame about the bad jokes! lol
Hi Gaz I was one of the many who recommended you do it in the oven. I don’t know why they even put microwave instructions on these as it should say non microwaveable due to ruining it. Yes I have 4 of these with peas and buttery mash once a week (with added pepper). Glad you came back to do a proper job👍 hope it’s good news tomorrow👍
Cheers pal this was for you mate 👍
We had these decades ago as a cheap meal Gareth, they’ve always been consistent and never played about with, lovely with Mash Peas and carrots, I’m surprised they never raised the price! Nice one👍🏻🏴
I'm 51 years old and never tried these in ones life, your review has changed my mind, I`ll give them ago.
You are missing out. Try them. They're beautiful
With chips or mash potatoes
@@geoffpriestley7310 both
Mushy peas chips and 2 slices of buttered bread.
Give us an update when you get them
I love these, had them since I was a kid, sometimes the 4's & 6 ones are on offer with loads more gravy in the larger ones & perfect with mash 😋
Ooh I’d forgotten about these, shall have to buy some now!
I love these! Deffo best in the oven and a relatively cheap tea
Oh my god, my nan used to cook these for me with a "mash mountain" and peas, carrots and cabbage! They were a bit strange as I recall it. I used to prefer it when she did the Menu Master boil-in-the-bag beef stew and dumplings. I don't think they make those anymore. Shame really!
I effing love these with a healthy pile of mash mate 👍👍
Love them, they are brilliant, also glad to see you looking better and back up to form
Yes! Thank you!
no microwaves in the 70's - used to have these with mash and baked beans (instead of peas) and HP sauce whilst watching Dr Who on a Saturday - brings back memories
When it says ‘ serves two’, who do they think is eating this?!!!! Thanks Gaz, good luck with the jaw! Stay safe and strong.
Haha 👍
The six pack serves two in our house 😂
We love them.
Sat here in Germany watching this vid n my mouth is watering, haven´t had them since the NAAFI closed here in Münster.
Cheers brother 👍
I always leave it in the fridge a couple of days to defrost, that way it takes half the time to cook. I also remove the lid... the gravy thickens up more, and you get a bit of a crust. It's another step up to a new level!
I was saying the same. Trouble is they take quite a while to heat up, from frozen. As you said defrost properly in the fridge. They cook better and quicker.
Hi I defrost and the do it in a saucepan with the mixed veg , smash done added and scoffed oh six pack meat not 2
😂we eat them.with very green cabbage and new potatoes 🥔 🎉very nice chep.dinner if on budget 😊
“Pork dish”, peas and gravy in Newport market when I was a kid in the late 60s/ early 70s was the best shopping with mother treat.
Glad to see you are eating better , keep up the good work .sending you and your family love and prayers 🙏 God bless you all.
Definitely one of my favourites inexpensive and very tasty what more can you ask
Fit for human consumption? 😂
@@TheChodax absolutely they are .....unfortunately America has altered people's perception of the name which is the problem not the product.
Since when do we do what Americans think we should do. ? 😂😂😂
Love these 😊
Looks lovely. That
If you served that in prison you would not get out alive 😂😂😂❤❤
Glad you like them . Don’t think I would . The name puts me off 😂🤣😂😜❤️👋
I've never had them either, don't think I even want to try....they just don't look or sound very appealing.
normally a pound for a pack of 6 mate a great cheap meal for a family yes mash an peas excellent dinner😊😊 sorry just checked 1.19 now in tesco was a pound 😭
Yes night have been 75 p I paid was a while ago now.
Like teleporting back to my childhood, heartwarming to see the love for these in the comments. If you know, you know!
“Pork Fa….” Okay, I’m dead. 😮
£1.10p for 6 in t Tesco.😮
great in a big yorkshire pud
Good idea
Like you, I first tried these in the microwave and thought them awful.
Reading this new review I decided to give them another try - this time at 220C for 40 minutes in the fan-assisted oven.
Very surprised, and pleased, with the outcome - as was my son.
I'll be buying these again (Pack of 6 for £1 at Morrisons).
ever since i was a kid I've seen these things on the shelf in the shops... you have persuaded me to finally give them a try!!
They are a firm favourite with me. As you said mash and peas. ( mushy of course)
I'm born & bred in Barrow.
In my 20's I moved to Gloucester.
Visit to the chip shop one night & on the menu 'faggots & peas'.
Didn't trust it, a work friend said, 'if you're living in Gloucester, you have to try faggots'.
I did.
I don't have to say how nice they are - this lad says it all.
Faggots, mash & peas!
White pepper & a slug of vinegar in the peas.
No extra words needed - he's finished the plate.
Thank you for the happy memories this vlog has brought back.
Cheers mate 👍
I grew up on these, and even now always have them in freezer. :)
As I now live on my own I buy the 6 pack which I can still get for £1 and use a clean hacksaw to cut them into 3 portions of 2 whilst they’re still frozen solid.
Good luck with tomorrow's specialists appointment Gareth. It will go well. Cheers Debra xxx
Thanks Debra 👍 x
I always have with bread and butter
They make a lovely gravy, I like them with chips and peas and definitely do them in the oven 👌🏻
my wife (German)makes these and we always have at least half a dozen in the freezer, they are called frikadellen, they are great for a quick evening meal BUT definitely with mash peas/carrots and a nice gravy
Sounds great!
I thought the title read you were eating brains lol 😂
🤣👍
That's a spoiler for a future video 😉
Many years ago I had a friend whose Mum used to eat a lot of offal. One day I went to see him and in a pan on the stove were sheep's brains. Also a sheep's eye on a plate. Never forget the smell and that was 56 years ago.
@@philipjones9458 jesus. 😂
I tried to comment & CZcams wouldn't let me post with the "F" word.
I live in the west Midlands where these originate from & get mine from the local butchers. They're a 100 times better than the brains ones. A slice of liver on top would make the perfect dinner with mash n peas. 😋
Yes it doesn't like that word
You are looking better Gareth, keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Mmm love these with mash and home honey rosted carrots and parsnips ! 😋👌
I have these with chips and cheese, the gravy must be poured over the cheesy chips, deffo have to be oven cooked,
Maybe I like with cheese who knows thanks for the suggestion
Ive never had those so i may try them 😅
That was great value for the price , Thanks for the review ❤
You’re welcome 😊
They are still very cheap, to buy. Not bad. Not had them for years, but at the price they are, of course I will try them again. Lovely heartfelt video. Your brilliant Gaz
£1.09 for a box of 6 in Tesco this morning ,
Pork what? 😂😂😂😂
Don't ask lol
I mourn the demise of Bird's Butchers and what used to be known as savoury ducks. They were delicious.
I love it when you nod your head when tasting something yummy. Classic! But my favourite tasting is the Lidl toasted sandwich thing that made you rush off to 🤢 - hysterical. It makes me laugh just to remember your reaction!! 😭😭😭😭
When I lived in Wales, our local market had cafes that sold these products with peas. I absolutely loved them. They were made by a butcher within the market.
We used to have the Brains product at home. Lovely!
Thank you for the memories.
I had to rewrite this post as they didn't like the F word as you said.
You're welcome 😊
Felinfoel ones from Llanelli market are yummy
You need to add a splash of vinegar but that might be just my family.
Nearly 70 years ago I was at Barry Island, along with peas and gravy, every eating place was selling them.
will go down well as its pride month 😄 i'l get me coat
Bye then
😂😂😂😂😂😂
My nanna used to make these with mash and marrow fat peas it was. My staple food growing up
I love them!
I used to live opposite the factory that made these. The view was offal.
🤣
I don't mind that because their not that dear 😀
Jeffrey Dahmer left the chat..............
I was one of those who said you did it wrong 😂 good to see you do them properly. I enjoy them with chips and two runny fried eggs and 2 slices of buttered bread 😊 yumm
I used to eat them when I was a child. They go well with mushy or garden peas and potatoes. Proper 80's dish that is. Also goes well on a sub roll
CZcams is too politically correct lol
Basically those are Haggis using the same bits of of a pig as haggis uses bits of sheep.
I love haggis btw.
Me also
I was thinking it looked like a mini haggis, the way it crumbled. Got me feeling hungry.
Oh my... watching this has made me hungry !
I have half a dozen packs in the freezer, Iceland are selling them for 75p. As kids we used to have them on a thick doorstop sized piece o toast, Luvey Jubbly.
The best ones used to be sold in the chippy. They used to have a fat-like web around them. They had no gravy with them but they were lovely. The surprising thing is that they haven't changed the name.
