I just used this video to fix a Silverado I bought super cheap because the guy got fed up trying to fix the wiring issue. It was the ground net to the oil sending unit. Repaired it and it fired right up. Thanks for the help!
Good video.. very informational and helped me get my truck going right away. Had the same exact problem on my 2005 silverado and could not figure it out until i watched your video... thank you!
this video just saved me , been rebuilding my silverado for months and then out of nowhere i stopped getting power to my ignition switch , after watching this video i put jumpers from the ecm to the engine , relays started clicking, nice job hayes , thanks for your help.
Great video ! Thank you…I was told early on that when voltages are weird or components working odd look to your grounds…thank you for taking the time to show us and educating us 👍👍👍
Yes!! When you expect the ground problem on the computer side it would be a good idea to get a test slide and touch the computer.. It should not light up
good advice man, u never know how the day will materialize. just get up with a positive attitude, stay humble, stay grateful, stay determined, and enjoy life.
love ur videos bro u helped me a couple months ago fix my fuel pump on dodge charger rewiring it and stuff. thanks bro love having your videos to watch when have nothing to do
This is the most in-depth testing video I’ve seen so far. Thanks a lot, and I’m sure it’ll help me find a similar issue. My 03 Silverado starts and runs fine, but intermittently will cause issues where the cluster, radio and hvac controls will stay lit up when I remove the key and open the door. I cycle the key, take it out and open the door a couple times and it will work normally. Any suggestions?
Update incase anyone is having the same issue. I changed the dash and didn’t realize I had the incorrect wiper motor. Installed the matching wiper motor and all is well again!
You were going down a lot of rabbit holes. You know more than I do about car problems, but there are some things that would help. First check power and ground. You got sidetracked by the strange low voltages, but did not get the schematic early on, to find the source. Need to isolate common circuits to find the culprit. Also, you said early on that it looked like a ground problem, but seemed to put that aside until later. One thing that I think gets you off track is the Power Probe. You can't' resist checking every wire in a plug even when you have no idea what's supposed to be there. Maybe that's why some mechanics don't like it, it's too easy to get distracted and go down the wrong path. I understand that some of the readings you got were wierd, but confusing your direction. I appreciate you taking us along, and it is knowledge we need. I don't see how anyone could find and fix electrical/electronic failures without a schematic, which you used. That bad ground connection probably has defeated everyone else that tried to fix this vehicle. Congratulations for sticking to it. Now, I wonder about the no comm problem and what effect it will have. Does the owner intend to drive it?
i have the same problem with the truck i have the dash lights will not tern off after i tern my truck off i thought it was the door centers then i made a bigger problem the security went off and i could not find anything on google about. and now its the ground wire well fuck....thanks man you save me a lot of time good video man👍
Hey Hayes! I grew up in an Automotive Shop, and started helping out doing basic maintenance at 12, then started working every summer, and for the last couple years I have worked there full time, and am really good at the mechanic side, but the electrical diag side has been a whole different ball game. What is your diag process, and what is a good scanner that’s somewhat affordable that you would recommend?
I have a 2009 enclave. Key won't shut it off... starts good. When I turn key off it won't shut off I've replaced the electronic ignition switch and it didn't fo anything different. When it's off engine light dims but is still illuminated and also I hear a buzz noise in the fuse box I'm out 500 for having someone come out replace the switch and still doesn't work so just wondering of it's not the switch but something else similar to your issue. Contact drain on battery and key does nothing other than kick on accessories and start will shut accessories off but but not vehicle
Just wondering if pulling fuses tied to a common feed one at the time would help narrow the source of the problem down. I mean, is the voltage problem coming from the feed or one of the fused circuits? You mentioned early on pulling the schematic, but it looks like you didn't until way later.
bro i have a hhr and i need your advice i seen your vid about the hhr and i am doing the same job, i have a couple questions , i see you have great know how about cars pls help me
Please help. I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado two door entry, Dashboard lights stay on after I took key out and exited the car but if I open the passenger side door, the dashboard lights go out. What is causing this issue?
I have a similar problem with battery light on staying on after i shut my truck off i have 04 duramax but mine starts and run fine if i let itvsit for a couple of days it drain my batteries
Just pull off a spark plug wire or two from the coil pack.. have someone crank the motor and see if you see a spark coming from the coil packs.. do not touch the wires.. check every coil pack .. then will go to step three
@@HayesMobileAutoRepair I really wish you can see the type of area I'm in I wouldn't ask these people for a dime if I needed it. I'm kind of on my own with this one until Saturday I can use my camera stand and aim it at a held up spark plug wire and view it afterwards. If you're on Saturday I can tell you what's happening. I have a crankshaft position sensor just in case.

I appreciate you james!
Just put a new front wiper motor in my son-in-law’s H2 and now this problem exists. Thanks for the clues. At least his still starts and runs fine!
My brothers Silverado has this issue, it had been sitting for a year or two and I think this is his. Thanks for the tips
Nice diag, I have been watching your channel since scanner danner mentioned you.
You inspired me to become a mobile mechanic myself, cheers Matt 👍
Thanks for watching. I appreciate you
Thanks for the video
thanks for giving me direction to look

the computer ground affected alot of different curcuits.. i tried to show that for better understanding,
Wish you were located in El Paso tx
when voltages are higher than they should be think power wire is finding an unwanted ground. something is shorting out
Hayes when you have it towed to your house how does that work do you pay for it then add it to their bill or do they pay it up front? Just curious
They pay the tow always. Good question.. I’ll explain on the next ride along video
It seems you have a great success with your Power Probe. Which model is it? I've seen others complain about it.
thats the best tool ever!!!! love it

bro i have a hhr and i need your advice i seen your vid about the hhr and i am doing the same job, i have a couple questions , i see you have great know how about cars pls help me
What’s the questions
There is 2 grounds under the drivers door on the frame they get corrosion on them
What sides have you touched
Maybe the short is in one of tbem
Is it the camera lens or the dash panel that's causing the foggy view? Can't tell which dash light is which.
u would be dirty too if u didnt have a glass in the back lol

It was the radio wire.
Location?
I have a similar problem with battery light on staying on after i shut my truck off i have 04 duramax but mine starts and run fine if i let itvsit for a couple of days it drain my batteries
U figure it out same thing
Did u figure it out?
My check engine light and oil light stay on even when my car is off
So what was wrong with the dash lights staying on?
Bad ground
Why didn’t you check the bcm
Crank no start no code check gauge light on fuel psi 45 1993 Buick regal 3100
check spark would be next to do,, are the coils firing?
