When i was a kid we always have those wooden slingshots and use stones for ammo. One time my dad saw me using the slingshot aiming at the mango fruit from the tree hoping it will fall down and I could eat it. Then my dad told me that i shouldn't aim for the fruit, as it will damage it, and that I should aim for the stalk/stem of the fruit instead. I laughed because the stem was too little of a target so I thought he was joking. Then he grabbed the slingshot, loaded it up, and with one shot, he hit the stem and the fruit fell to the ground. My jaw dropped and was so amazed to see that.
Yep- if you grew up in the 50s and 60s- kids were crazy about sling shots and some of them got really, really good with them. My dad could shoot through the neck of a bottle and knock the bottom out - which amazed us kids. So, we started trying to learn to shoot- on about my third try I hit my thumb with a steel ball, and it broke it- it was what they call a "wrist rocket" and I had it dimed out- pulled back as far as it would go. Man, it hurt- I will never forget the pain.

Man, I gotta say, the subtle comedy work in these is 1000% on point. The basket ball gag, the controller gag, even the under the desk crying one, not overly long, hits the landing, and doesn't seemed forced in the slightest. Its what really sets these videos apart from other creator youtubes. Seriously good work man....the slingshot stuff was cool too I guess

As a perfectionist, this is the kind of stuff I aspire to make. I work in video games (PC tech), but I dropped out of film school. This guy puts serious effort into cinematography and editing. Like you mentioned, the extra mile to tell this story well and jokes that only last 1 second, but still hit, really pushes this video above the average "science guy builds a thing and tests it" content. Short and sweet. Not wasting my time. Love it.

I've had a few slingshot that I made as a kid, I'm 68, tree branches and bicycle tire tube cut in strips. Then, I graduated to store bought kind , it was called the Wrist Rocket. I enjoyed this very much.
There was a slingshot made back in the '70s called a Wrist Rocket. The ammo was steel balls. Very lethal. They were eventually banned from being sold but I think they are now being sold again
I had a wrist rocket as a kid. Was deadly accurate with it. Rarely had any steel balls to use so I generally just used whatever rock I could find. I later bought one of those folding slingshots and it sucked big time. It's hard to find those old original wrist rockets.

I started using one around the age of 6 or 7, and it always, from the beginning, just felt natural, to me. You know what I mean? Like an extention of your body, you just sort of *know* how to make your projectile go where you want (which were usually rocks for me, too, lol). I found green acorns worked pretty well, too, if you wanted something for target shooting. My late little brother and I used to use rotten acorns the way other people used paintballs, lol. Left a nasty welt and bruise, but never broke the skin. It was really fun when we went camping, and had the whole forest for a battleground. I'd also hunt doves as a kid, and clean and cook them. I was weirdly proud of myself for being able to get my own food, even though it was barely more than a couple chicken wings worth of meat (though it was tender and tasty, hehe).

Great video. We had homemade slingshots as boys using very heavy rubber bands. The slingshots were carved using a natural “Y” shaped branch. Because we were boys with lots of time on our hands we became deadly accurate with them. I recall that they could punch a marble through a glass bottle without shattering the glass - just two neat holes.
Yeah, I remember whittling one as a kid myself as well, it was really hard to find bands in the mountains we lived, but when we got them it kept us entertained for hours. Even with that little thing, it was much more powerful than it looked like. I also remember seeing a professionally made one with the wrist stabilizer when I was about 10, and that one was so powerful it made me skittish. I knew if one of my idiot friends aims it like an idiot and hits me, it'd be like getting hit with a bullet. And I didnt need the help, I ended up catching a bullet as an adult because of an idiot not being careful🙄
I bought one called a “wrist rocket” which had a brace which stabilized it by resting on your forearm. It came with about 20 1/2” ball bearings for ammo. I have no doubt it would kill at close range. My mother confiscated it.
Love seeing new people enter the world of slingshots!!! For more power I suggest making custom bands and using lead balls. I personally use 2 in by 1 in bands and fold the 2 inch side on itself before attaching it to the forks. Makes for some really strong bands that can really transfer some energy into the denser lead balls. Kudos for the awesome video!!!
it wasn't the scope, it just couldn't handle the slowness and heavy drop of the projectile. You'd need a canted mount that points it down a few degrees, they're really common to use on air rifles. In air rifles it's referred to as 'barrel droop' in the US. Break-barrel air rifles tend to lose elevation over time so that led to scope mounts with an angle.
As an air-gunner myself I've noticed, additionally, the stock scopes that come with most air rifles aren't made to be used at the shorter ranges at which airguns operate. I often have to adjust a scope 4x more than what seems necessary.

Well... with a firearm you shoot at the same point several times and then adjust the scope from there and keep trying until you're zeroed. In theory you'll always hold it the same way so you need to adjust the scope for you, not for a static mount.
The way this video flows is amazing. I love the cut scene flash-backs (similar to Family Guy.) You kept me engaged through the entire thing even though I wasn't super interested in sling shots. The science/humor combo is wonderful.

Scopes like the one you got with the slingshot are prone to losing zero under "vigorous movement" like being dropped or ya know having to reload a giant ass slingshot or something along those lines. Trying to zero a cheap scope on something with giant band that you reload with your foot is an example of a literal sisyphian task. The makeshift shooting bench rest was a galaxy giga brain play but even a professional grade bench rest would struggle to keep that thing on zero. Great video and you earned my sub!

Fun fact: rubber bands actually hold more energy when they are hotter, and at the same time, stretching the rubber bands causes them to heat up. So as a result, stretch the rubber and immediately release it gives you the most power.
Another Fun Fact : You can actually use this property of rubber bands to make a (crappy) functional refrigerator. There is a video on youtube explaining and showcasing such a thing.
I’m an American, I have tons of guns. I still love my little slingshot. I have a really nice little guy made by simpleshot the LT model. I practiced a ton and have done a fair bit of squirrel hunting. Slingshots are definitely no joke on small game. Get good enough to hit heads and they just drop.

I’m an American, I have tons of guns. I still love my little slingshot. I have a really nice little guy made by simpleshot the LT model. I practiced a ton and have done a fair bit of squirrel hunting. Slingshots are definitely no joke on small game. Get good enough to hit heads and they just drop.
